Vegas

Anyone making the trip out west? San Francisco and Southern Illinois are quality opponents. Splitting the two games would be a nice accomplishment.

Re: Vegas

The Dons improved to 7-4 a few minutes ago, defeating Radford (5-6) 52-41 in a low-scoring game on USF's home court.

Friday's matchup should be another defensive struggle.

Let's Go Duquesne!

Re: Vegas

Meanwhile, SIU breezed past North Carolina A&T 102-74 earlier this evening.  Like USF, the Salukis — our opponent on Saturday — are now 7-4.

Let's Go Duquesne!

Re: Vegas

4 of us will be there - flying out tonight.  A split would be fine, but I'm looking for a sweep.  Our defense has improved 1,000% over any Dukes team in recent memory, and that should mean we'll typically be in every game.  Hopefully, the excitement of playing in this tourney will help carry some scoring from our top guys.  Counting on big games from Rene and Mike.  Chas will find his complete game soon and dominate in Vegas and then in A-10 action.  Things looking up...

Let's Go Dukes

They also beat Lamar by 10, but they shot the ball much better than we did last night. We could have won that game by double digits with a better shooting night, both from three and the free throw line.

Re: Vegas

San Fran shooting 39% on the season so this could be another game in the 60's.

What is FX1 and FX2? Is it some sort of internet broadcast?

It's actually FoxSports 1 and FoxSports 2... Channels 583 and 584 for those of you with Verizon Fios.

Re: Vegas

FS2 can be streamed only if your cable carrier has agreement with them,  mine is Comcast and does not have that agreement, FS1 is broadcast at my 451 channel for Sat.

Oh, ok. Fox Sports is usually written as FS1 and FS2, that's what threw me off. There's so much internet stuff now, I figured that's what it had to be.

Directv has FS1 at 219, FS2 is 618.

Re: Vegas

There's a link on the San Francisco site to watch the game. So we may be able to get it online?

Re: Vegas

Just wanted to chime in and say my Dad & I had a good time out there for the tournament. Obviously Saturday was a bit of bummer since it looked like they were in control at the under 8 of the 2H, but it doesn't negate Friday's win which was very rewarding to see and be there for.

Orleans Arena was cozy and certainly convenient if you stayed at the hotel. As you could tell on the telecasts, the place wasn't packed to say the least as I'd say a good majority of the crowd for most of the teams were relatives of the players. However, the games both in the day and night were pretty good and you never knew who you might bump into from any of the eight teams throughout the weekend.

The Dukes were well represented with players' family members supporting the team and it was nice to meet many of them as well as a number of the players after the win over San Fran. Coach Dambrot and staff as well as the players were very gracious when meeting them throughout the weekend. It reaffirmed my belief that as the program improves, Coach Dambrot is going to be able to sell the program to the public and get more people on board and bring back some of the fans who have left as well.

Hopefully we're more of a fixture in these holiday tournaments/showcases at destination places and would definitely be open to going to them if the opportunity presents itself.

All in all, not a bad end to the OOC. Now, on to the grind that is league play as this weekend in Vegas gave us a glimpse of how many of these games may go. I'm looking forward to the continued improvement and that we sneak up on the league which has pretty much written us off. Go Dukes!

Re: Vegas

Nice post, Brian and thank you for being there! No way is this team finishing last in the A-10. How far up the ladder we finish is unknown. I do believe that we need to win lots of home games if we are to play any games past the A-10 tournament.. As I stated previously, road wins will be few and far between for many A-10 teams, including us, I believe. Hope I'm proven wrong on this!  League is fairly balanced with only a couple of teams looking to be exceptionally strong. We need to beat Dayton at home on Saturday to get the ball rolling our way.  GO DUKES!!

Re: Vegas

I would think this week's practice will be to reintroduce Chas Brown to the drop step and how to score inside with out the attempted throw down.

For Eric Williams,Jr lay in drills off the alley-opp, and for the guards pass before extended dribbling with assists in mind.

This team will continue to improve if only by the sheer will of the coaches thru instruction of the basic skills. I would like to see the two bigs that sit get some time shooting over our opponents from the wings.

Re: Vegas

Chas looks to heavy out there? Maybe it’s just me

Yes Eric should’ve layed that alley oop in but tarin did throw it extremely late.

Phil dog is right.

Jordan and Chad and Tydus have to score in order for us to win.

I agree and I don't expect miracles but do think we will see gradual improvement as the season wears on.

I had guessed the "two bigs that sit" were the two 6'8" guys who aren't getting playing time. I thought Phildog meant them, as they both seem to like long jump shots. Could be useful to open defenses up, although they both may be defensive liabilities themselves, hence the pine time.

That is who I meant and I agree about the “D”.

Re: Vegas

I am wondering of what value Marko K. will be moving forward this season. I doubt that his injury is keeping him off the court at this point. I would think that next year he could possibly get lost in the shuffle completely. Guess we will have to wait to see how it plays out. One thing for certain. No "D" no play!!

A nice problem to have after all those years of "Hey you're 6'7" you can be our starting power forward!"

on the very first play he came back, marko was playing defense and he blocked a pass with his wrist. it was pass thrown hard and i dont believe he intended to block it, but it hit him hard and he never stopped wobbling that wrist as if he was trying to shake the pain off of it. at the time i thought "i don't think he was ready for that, i wonder if that sets him back"
