Hopefully the last 2 close games help us get through this one.

Re: Game Thread - Southern Illinois Salukis

Tarin cuts it to two!  Let's see if Dambrot's Dukes can respond for the third time in a row.

Let's Go Duquesne!

Dukes down 6.  We'll need a last-second miracle.

Re: Game Thread - Southern Illinois Salukis

Just way too sloppy down the stretch. Too many turnovers and couldn't make shots. Oh well. Onto conference play.

Re: Game Thread - Southern Illinois Salukis

Tarin Smith hogs the ball the last min.
Lewis doesn’t get a touch till it’s out of reach and Duke Lose.

Tough loss.  Up seven the Dukes had a chance, but let it slip away.

Re: Game Thread - Southern Illinois Salukis

Not a good defensive effort by the Dukes tonight.

Reverted back to 1 on 1 offense; 4 assists total. And nothing out of Verhoeven, Taylor and James - no points, 5 rebounds, no assists combined.

Dambrot will have them refocused again going into the Dayton game

Re: Game Thread - Southern Illinois Salukis

Hate to lose but I'm happy with the non-conf. results. Since the defense seems to be doing pretty well maybe coach will decide to spend a little more practice time on offense but whatever he decides is fine by me.

Re: Game Thread - Southern Illinois Salukis

Only people who score consistently are Mike and Eric and occasionally René and Tarin. That’s what we got to work with.. hate to say it. Don’t let this loss make you guys skeptical. Wasn’t on Coach D we lost this game

Re: Game Thread - Southern Illinois Salukis

Got a little sloppy at the end - still given the circumstances (injuries etc) am somewhat pleased with the over all Non-Conference Play -  Hopefully with 7 days between games - Coach puts together a solid game plan - team executes it and we beat the Liars.

Merry Christmas to the team, the staff and all the posters out there.

Re: Game Thread - Southern Illinois Salukis

A noticeable sign that we are 1) improving and 2) well coached is that we can play poorly against a solid team and still have a chance to win. That's a good trend because no team in the country brings their A-game every night.

Re: Game Thread - Southern Illinois Salukis

Dukes went on a 20-6 run early in the second half to turn a 7-point deficit into a 7-point lead. Really thought they were gonna pull away, Southern Illinois was just waiting to be beat. But I guess it just wasn't their night. Sloppy all night on offense, too many defensive breakdowns down the stretch. The conference schedule may not look much different than the last two games, just hopefully with better officiating. Was that a Mountain West crew?. Some nights they'll pull out the close wins and some nights they just won't be able to get over the hump and will lose games that were there for the taking. Still think 7 wins in conference play is very doable.

Re: Game Thread - Southern Illinois Salukis

Go figure.  The University of San Francisco, the team we narrowly beat last night, upset highly-touted Nevada in the nightcap.  Nevada easily dispensed of Southern Illinois on Friday night, trouncing the shorthanded Salukis by 22 points.

A keen observation.  Looking forward to our Dukes making some noise in the A-10, beginning with a strong showing against Dayton on Saturday.

Let's Go Duquesne!

Agreed.  Better days lie ahead, perhaps sooner than any of us expect.

Let's Go Duquesne!
