LaSalle

Loses at UMASS after leading by 21 in the second half. They will probably be in a sour mood on Saturday Doesn't look like they play a lot of guys so maybe we try to wear them down.

Re: LaSalle

Their best player, BJ Johnson, tweaked his ankle and didn't play tonight. He averages 21 per game. Will be interesting to see if he is ready to play Saturday.

weren't they the team that was so short-handed against us last year?  I seem to remember the announcers talking about how, to avoid foul trouble, they just let the Dukes walk it up the court and not even apply token pressure in the front court!

think that was the season before last...don't quote me on that though

I hate myself for loving you. Quoting me without the expressed written consent of the National Hockey League is prohibited.

I hope our guys are in a sour mood too.  Maybe now that students are back on campus, that amps everyone up for Saturday.

Have to figure a tweaked ankle will be good by Saturday, would be foolish to expect him to miss, but if he does, thats a huge void in their lineup.

Regardless, its a key game considering the schedule.  Home, vs a middle tier A10 team = must win.

Re: LaSalle

That was 2016 when BJ Johnson, Pookie Powell and Demetrius Henry were sitting out due to transfer rules and then they had some injuries on their way to finishing dead last in the league. We saw the Dukes smash them by nearly 30 in the first game after the blizzard ordeal coming home from George Mason.

Of course, come A10 Tourney time, Jordan Price went off for 36 and LaSalle hammered the Dukes in the 11/14 PIG in Brooklyn. Fun times..

Re: LaSalle

LaSalle also led VCU 15-0 last Saturday before losing 80-74.

Stat wise, I think the Dukes match-up pretty well both in overall numbers and league play. Keep them off the line. They don't go there oftne but when they do they make them. LaSalle is sub par guarding the three this year and currently last in the league at 39%. Should bode well for the guards.

After getting a home job at VCU I am sure Dambrot will have the Dukes in a foul mood and ready to play.  If KD can keep Chas from chasing guards on the perimeter and out of foul trouble he will have a big day.

Yes and Chas taking outside shots, who he think he is, Little Gill?

Re: LaSalle

I think this is going to be a VERY difficult game...
- LaSalle played VCU very tough and played them closer than we did
-The games where we surprise people this year are officially over. No more sneaking up. Teams will prepare harder for us now
-A pressing game plan was definitely shown to LaSalle after the VCU loss
-I believe this is a pivotal game for our student fan base and we need a win to impact attendance
- I’m also interested about the crowd size With Pitt, the Pens all playing home and the chance of bad weather,

We really need our upper class 2 big guys to impact the game. Does ANYONE KNOW if Brown was always in foul trouble at his previous school like he has been here??

Re: LaSalle

I do see this as a difficult game but winnable if we do all the little things required. We cannot get outrebounded and for that to be the case we have to keep Chas and JRob on the floor. Turnovers must be 10 or fewer. We can't give LaSalle more shots at the basket than we take. If we hold our own on the boards and not turn the ball over more than LaSalle, I see a win. Big ifs though! Hope for a big crowd.

Re: LaSalle

Hate to sound like the Debby downer. But us including myself doesn’t know what goes on in Practice or practically anything besides when we watch it. We are only looking from outside in.

Maybe Marko isn’t playing because of his wrist .. it has to be something else..

If you watched that game we fumbled 10+ rebounds.

We only had 8 turnovers.. so saying they will press because VCU did it is foolish.

I don’t talk much in here but I’m telling you what I see. This why I don’t comment on everything because there’s some things we don’t really know about.

It's OK to talk about things here...we're on a message board.  You can always say disparaging things about the team in Oakland if you don't have anything else to say. Early in the year, Dambrot played Kratholm more because Brown was banged up and Robinson and Verhoeven were also still in learning mode. There was nothing to lose. Now, theoretically, Robinson and Brown ought to be splitting post minutes. Against VCU they both fouled out before they broke a sweat. I don't think Kratholm and Krivacevic are post players in the traditional sense. They're tall kids who can shoot a little. Nice complements to what we have, but they're not going to live in the paint.

Once we lost our post players, Dambrot stayed small.

As I said. Some things we just don’t know. You can say go to Oakland. They have far more problems than us

Re: LaSalle

Dear GoDukes:  Ditto to What ElDuque wrote - heck, it's easy to talk about things we do know about it!!!   Please, disagreement here is usually respected...except for last year when a few folks didn't like my comments or a few others about the former coach but hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion!  The one thing we all have in common is we support Duquesne Basketball in whatever way we can and we want them to win.  A lot of our comments are conjecture but that's what makes it fun.

Re: LaSalle

This game will be difficult. I see it as a toss up. LaSalle plays everyone hard, they have 10 losses but 9 of those the deficits were 12 points or less, and several against high level competition. They have some good wins too, Temple, Penn, and Mercer are all solid teams this year.

That being said, we should be able to win this game at home. I am really interested to see how we respond after VCU, in previous years blowing a lead like that would've sent us reeling and destined to do the same thing over and over and over... We saw a great response against Dayton coming off our last loss, but this will be tougher with less than 3 days rest.

Win or lose this game will be telling just based on how we play

Re: LaSalle

LaSalle may have just a bit more on the court than we do at this time but we do have KD which is why we are 12-5 vs. say 7-10.which we could be under different circumstances.

Kenpom has it as a two point Dukes victory, 69-67.  I like the way he thinks!!

Re: LaSalle

All conference games are always difficult, home court should help some tomorrow.

This season is so much more interesting than last since coaching is back on the Bluff.
