Re: A10 conference expansion

I agreed with Steve who suggested the best course would be to target DePaul, Seton Hall and Providence.

I agree with you on Villanova, Georgetown, and St Johns.   I started this thread thinking wishing for them, but you are right.....they would never come to the A10.

Re: A10 conference expansion

I was reading A10, X and Dayton boards.   There is this twitter poster (credibility unknown) that is being discussed.

He is saying ACC and/ or Big 12 are going to raid UConn, Louisville, Cincinnati and perhaps USF.   Remaining football schools may join including Temple for a new conference.

And the Big East basketball schools may be preparing to raid the A10. Reporting that BE bb schools are trying to meet today.

The twitter handle is @MHver3     Again I don't know who that is but I have read the tweets and that is what he
are reporting.   No idea concerning who this is or there credibility.

I am most surprised that I would have imagined the remaining of the X and Dayton posters to want to run to join the Big East schools. But most want to screw Villanova, Georgetown and all by just adding Marquette and DePaul.

Gosh, I hope some at DU is paying attention to all of this.

Re: A10 conference expansion

I am not at all sure about the credibility of the twitter poster I referenced above.  It is a small account, few followers and it about WVU sports rumors.

An article from the Sporting News today referencing a Providence Journal article.   Big East basketball schools could vote to dissolve the conference and form their own.  (DU's name was not mentioned in the new league.)

Somewhere in the great beyond, Charles Darwin has to be snickering and shaking his head. This is Darwinism at its best.

Re: A10 conference expansion

Interesting day in the rumor mill.  Huge buzz today about up to 7 ACC schools defecting to Big 12 and SEC.  FSU, Miami, Clemson, GT, NC, NCST and UVA all rumored to be going one place or the other.
Coach K was quoted last week saying he feared for the future of the ACC. Perhaps he know something.

I would crack up if everyone left the ACC before right after Pitt got there.

It seems that perhaps Louisville, Uconn and Cincinnati could be headed to ACC Monday and it could end up being an odd mix of old Big East schools, Wake Forest, BC and Duke remaining.

And on Big East board I saw a poster say that a model for a new Big East bb only could arise thst included DU. And this guy said it would be driven by non-completing market members added.  The poster added SLU, Dayton, X, Creighton, and yes good old DU to the additions to the BE7.  They listed the TV markets it would cover and they were impressive.  First time I read our name mentioned.

Not that any of it means anything, but I do believe that both the Big East and The ACC as we know them are toast.

Wow, who would have ever thunk it possible?

Re: A10 conference expansion

With East Carolina (fb only)  Tulane (full member) being admitted to the Big East today as members, the implosion of the Big East looks to be delayed again. They still might lose Louisville, UConn or UC to the ACC, or perhaps even all three, but there is enough in place for the basketball-football alliance to continue.

I agree with Steve from Yuku who beat me to this post.   Clearly the majority of the BE basketball only schools want this alliance (read: Villanova and Georgetown), I can't believe all would.   Now is the time for Bernie to try and poach two Big East basketball teams to the A10.  Any two I don't care which.   Dream list would be Marquette and DePaul.   I would "settle" for Providence and Seton Hall.

But it is probably unlikely that anyone leaves.   I also think Villanova wool upgrade football rather than go to another basketball only conference.

ECU will need a basketball conference.  Ummm, not the A10, please.

Re: A10 conference expansion

ACC invited Louisville not UConn to be their 14th member to replace Maryland.

The Big East basketball brand has been so diminished by all this.   The exciting Tulane/Providence or UCF/Seton Hall match ups.

The Nets in Brooklyn are the toast of the town.   Bernie actually made a very wise move with the tournament to Brooklyn.   I never thought I would say this but once Pitt, Louisville, Syracuse leave the the Big East, the A10 has a real shot in upstaging the Big East at tournament time in future years.

Re: A10 conference expansion

The best part, if you're a small Catholic school with a modest budget like Providence or Seton Hall, is that your tennis, swimming, and volleyball teams get to travel to Boise State, San Diego State, UCF, Houston, SMU, and Tulane.

You are correct.   But SDSU and Boise State are football only members.....However, it does apply to UCF, Houston, Tulane, etc.

I have been reading Big East boards and they think that the A10 is going to take ECU.   This reasoning that the A10 would just accept ECU to benefit them is just hysterical to me.

With the exception of ND, I would hope no schools like that would be invited.

Re: A10 conference expansion

Thanks for the reminder Kurt.

ECU = Not a fit.

St. John's, Providence, Seton Hall, Marquette, DePaul = Fit.

Villanova and Georgetown = What's it like to be an independent, Schoenstein?

Re: A10 conference expansion

I think it is hysterical that a poster on this board goes to the A10 board and agrees with other posters who say that DU will be out of the New Big East or whatever they are calling it (if it ever forms BE and A10 teams).

One would think that DU fans would fight for our inclusion in such a conference rather than just buy into the people that want us out of that group.

Re: A10 conference expansion

Sounds like ECU is heading the CAA for the rest of it's sports.

I haven't been on an A-10 board in years. I have little patience for some of the idiocy that goes on there.

I love how we are now referred to as A-10 leftovers.

Nothing new there. Of course, we really haven't done anything to earn much respect over the last 40 years. Hopefully that's about to change.

As we have been saying since the second month of Jimmy Carter's administration.  Sigh!

That would be news to Aaron Jackson.

While I enjoyed what Aaron did, we were not ranked during his time here, nor did we make the NCAA Tournament. Thus, in the eyes of the basketball world, we have done nothing to earn any respect. Go to any Big East board, and bring up Duquesne, and see the total lack of respect they have for us. They don't have that lack of respect for Xavier or Temple. Even schools like Richmond are discussed with respect. Duquesne is lumped with Fordham, and derided as dead weight, that is holding the league back.

We know.  I have seen you echo this opinion on the A10 message board. Grouping us with the other also rans. Bad enough that they do it.

We belong with the other also rans. What have we done to separate ourselves from LaSalle? Nothing! I want a trip to the NCAA Tournament. While I'll happily take us winning in Brooklyn, I really want us to be good enough to earn an at large bid. Anything less than that is not getting the job done, and i hope the administration feels the same way. If not, we need to get out of D1 basketball. When you're happy with NITs, and CBIs, that's what you're going to get.

Re: A10 conference expansion

Great.  Keep selling our shortcomings on the A10 board. At least I keep my disdain for the AD on the Duquesne boards.

There are enough people from other schools out there calling us losers. I just think it sucks when it comes from supposedly one if our biggest fans and a longtime board moderator.

Please point out where I've put us down on the A10 board. I think you're blowing smoke.

Re: A10 conference expansion

Realignment thread.  A10 board. Post 318.  You used the term "A-10 leftovers" when replying to Muddy post kicking us out of reorganized conference.  Muddy didn't coin that term. You did.

Post 278  of the same thread.  Instead of trying to be positive or even staying silent you put us in the group of schools left behind after the top schools bolt.  And who you want to come join us in

I understand. You believe we should be in a glorified MAAC.  I get it.
