I believe this will prove to be a nice pick up for the Dukes. Got to wonder if he will apply for a waiver to play next year. Does not sound like it which may be good as he can work on his strength and conditioning.

Glad to see he's coming. Could turn out to be the purest shooter we've had here. He's got the stroke.
Congrats to Micah and to Coach Ferry -- a quality pickup for both sides.

This was from the Drake website when Micah signed:
MICAH MASON
6'-2", 170 lbs.; Highlands H.S. (Allegheny, Pa.)
Mason averaged 33.3 points, 8.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game at Highlands High, and shot 47% from three-point range. He earned a spot on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's "Fab Five" Boys Basketball team and was area player of the year by the Valley News Dispatch. Mason scored 64 points in a game last season, the second-highest single-game total by a player in a WPIAL history.
Phelps on Mason: "Micah has the ability to play both guard positions and he's a terrific scorer. He's the ultimate gym-rat. He is the hardest and most consistent worker I have had the opportunity to recruit. Micah will be a guy our fans will really enjoy because of his ability to put the basketball in the hoop. He is a terrific shooter, but he can also be very effective distributing the basketball."

Glad to hear this, but I sure wish he'd be available next year. Oh well, might work out for the better because it's gonna take another good recruiting effort next year to make this team competitive and then he'll be hopefully be able to play out his last couple of years with a better cast of players.

I can only go by what I hear and read, but I think Micah is a great "bounceback" after missing out on Notice. We can get by for a year with Winters and Jerry Jones at the wing and Jeremiah Jones and Ridenour at the two. Plus there may be a scholarship or two left to give.

If Micah is to sit out I believe he would still have three years left if he graduatesin 4 years, correct? That would mean if we still have one left it should go to JUCO. I woulld still like to get another ball handler scorer. Travaughn White?

I think if Datt, Pantophlet and Martin all leave then we have two more scholies.

I have to wonder if Panto will transfer. Ferry seems to like him.
It seem like a lot of Pitt fans are upset they did not get Mason. With guys transferring and going pro this was a funny tweet
Jimmy Murray@JMurray_441mThe Petersen Events Center has transferred to Duquesne

I saw some of those. Maybe with the rich haul of players we have and the problems at Pitt, Jon Severe will also come to The Bluff.

No Adams to draw a double or triple team.

50% from 3 is insane. Ferry has to find some way to use him.

What is his natural position, PG or SG? Or is he a combo?

Pitt fans have to be ready to jump off a cliff. First Shell and some other football players transfer, then they fire ladies coach, then Adams goes pro and Zeigler is transfering out.
oh yeah, and they just gave Dixon a lifetime contract extension.
HAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!![]()

I think that Panto can be an effective player for us next year and the year after. I know that he has not played to potential but that doesn't mean that he won't. Hope he stays. Sometimes the best move is the one that isn't made.

Why wouldn't Mason apply for a hardship waver? His health was untenable at Drake, causing a disruptiion in his family.

I haven't seen a thing that would indicate that he can play at this level. I guess we'll see.

I totally agree. Panto might hit a 3 now and then, but he is slow - not tall enough for his position - not great defense - and can't dribble well enough. He would do well at a D-2 school.

See the two in a row 3-pointers the walk-on kid from Louisville planted? The scoring drought was busted. He might of won the National Championship with those two shots. A one-trick pony sure can make a difference at times!

You can't minimize a 3 pt. bucket. They are a big part of the game and we have not been particularly good from there. I love the fact that Mason is coming here. It adds a dynamic that we really did not have this past season except now and again.

With set plays shooting behind the new 6-8 guys he could be real effective. m Mason

How can it hurt? Even if he turns out to be very limited with the rest of his game, you can still use him in spots as a zone buster. If the rest of his game is up to par, he'll be a major headache for our opponents. Plenty of teams have a player or two that excels only in one facet of the game. Shot blockers, defensive specialists, three point shooters.

I'd say both Louisville and Michigan both found a way to use the 3-ball to positively impact the NCAA Championship Game last evening...
I'll take a "one trick pony" anytime.
