Strictly my opinion on Williams; but in earlier games, I saw him exhibiting bad habits; failing to get back on defense after missed shots and turnovers.  Generally watching instead of playing.  He can be much more than just a long-range shooter; and he has the talent and size to be a special player.  We know he can be a big scorer and rebounder; but he needs to play a full-court game; not a half court game!  I think the coaches just want to see him fulfill his promise!

Re: Game Thread - University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks

I was at the game and was wondering what was up with Williams (and TDM) and for a minute I thought he just wanted to see more from the other guys, especially seeing EW joking and apparently happy on the bench, but as we now know that was not the case.  I am with KD that discipline and a proper attitude are critical to building a championship culture - not middle of the pack.  KD spoke to this in the post-game and the reality is that no one player is more important than the team.  This is concerning with EW and frankly disappointing as this is the second time this year this has happened.  KD is obviously sending EW a message and my hope is that he learns and is mature enough to respond the right way.  The kid has all A-10 potential with his scoring and rebounding and I am sure the coaches want him to just reach his potential as a leader, player and person.  C'mon Eric, get with the program and take some leadership reins.

Looks like I have you trained to post for me now. Much appreciated.

Oh, dude, you are so off base on that. Trained me? Not even with an automotic rifle shoved through my teeth.

I would never want to be that miserable.

Re: Game Thread - University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks

Can't fault the guys too much. They played down to their opponent for the final 27 minutes, but the other team was so so bad. Hard to have the adrenaline pumping when you just pounded the team by 20 in the first 10 minutes.

I was a little concerned how little they used the inside, but the big guys who played didn't have good games

He averages 13.0 ppg and 7ppg on 43% from three and 2 assists. His play is not bad at all. What are you watching?

Well, better to win these types of games than lose of course!  Maine is going to be a lot tougher on Sunday.  Don’t let their record fool you, they are competitive.  We have another level to go up in a week or PSU will be worse than playing Pitt.  I’m also confident that their assistant coach will assist in motivating the Lions against his former team.  However, one game at a time.  Need to beat Maine on Sunday.

Re: Game Thread - University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks

Question for PhoenixRising2 or anyone? Coach has mentioned several times the Dukes are almost at the bottom in experience ranking. Can those numbers be extracted from KenPom  and added to previews of upcoming games. I don't think it makes a great difference usually, but when you are at one extreme or the other it does seem to matter.  I remember trying to figure out how we kept losing to BobbyMo and every year they seemed to have 4 or 5 Jr./Sr's on the court and we didn't. Just might be something we need to pay more attention to as the season goes on.

MikeR, I will see what I can do.  Here a couple current Dukes stats:
Bench Minutes: 41.8% (8th in country; D-1 Average 30.5%)
Experience: 0.70 yrs (349th in country; D-1 Average 1.68)
Minutes Continuity: 22.4% (324th in country; D-1 Average 47.8%)

Interesting that 3 or the 4 teams below the Dukes in experience are 'blue bloods':  UCLA, Maryland, Kentucky and UNC Asheville.

I think you can get that information from the game stat sheets. KD will be making his decisions based on practice habits and effort, defensive effort and a lot of non-scoring information. I think that is why some are questioning Weathers contributions but he is critical to the team. Prior to this season the 2 players most would agree we could not live without were Lewis and Williams. Lewis has not played well and his playing time has been cut. Williams has been benched for a game. KD will not give the best players hall passes....everybody plays with effort...or does not play. I would say he was sending a message but I doubt it....that is his DNA and the players had to already know. If there was a message....it would be that he walks the talk.

Lewis and Williams are high character guys....Lewis seems off the charts high. I think both will respond in a positive way

Thanks PR2. It's amazing how things have gotten so Sabre-Metricky. The further down you drill, the further down you can drill. Still, it will be interesting to watch these fluid #s change thru the season and see if they can be useful predictors.

Maine has 12 players from outside the U.S. That has to be pretty close to a record.

Williams has played bad enough to get benched?
