Re: Ethan Morton

Well, this guy sounds extremely impressive. At least we offered the guy--always easier to be able to grab someone in the backyard.

Looks like we're the smallest school of about 21 to offer him so far. Top 50ish player in the country

Re: Ethan Morton

In the sixties and seventies a player like this would seriously consider Duquesne. Which brings me to ask this, over the past forty years, after Doug Arnold and Bruce Atkins, who is the highest local recruit that we signed ? My guess would be Tom Pipkins.

How bout recently? We’ve had some good transfers come in, but is Maceo Austin the biggest recruit straight out of high school to sign with us? I suspect it is either him or Damian Saunders, who was a lucky late pickup.

Re: Ethan Morton

Definitely Tommy Pipkins.  He was an elite player.  His performance against Georgetown when they were ranked #6 in the country and had stars such as Allen Iverson, and Othella Harrington was memorable.  He scored 30 on them in one of his greatest performances.  The Dukes finally lost 88-86 on a put-back of a missed shot by Bubacar Aw.  The Dukes had one last shot, a 15-foot jumper by future NBA champion, Mike James missed.  Pipkins was relentless in that game, and basically collapsed on the court after the near upset, from disappointment and exhaustion.  As I recall Big John Thompson was so impressed with Pipkins' performance that he went out and helped him to his feet and gave him a hug out of respect.
Pipkins is a guy that has kind of gotten lost when we talk about some of the best Duquesne players of all time, but he deserves to be mentioned among the many greats who wore the Red and Blue.

Re: Ethan Morton

Pipkins for sure, Price from Duquesne HS was a good get, and the G from West Mifflin about 10-12 years ago, name escapes me.

Re: Ethan Morton

I'm sorry, am I missing something?  Did we offer Morton?  I didn't notice that in the article above.  Thank you.

It doesn't say, but his recruiting pages say so

The guard was Bryant Mcallister.

Re: Ethan Morton

I saw somewhere that Almany Thiero has a son who is a freshman playing at Quaker Valley. Good bloodlines as his mother was also a very good player if I recall correctly. Someone to keep an eye on.

Pipkins, Price, James, Bosnic, all on the same team. What was the problem? The coach. I think even Danny Nee could have won some games with that group. Certainly Ron or KD would have. Maybe even Ferry. He did at least reach .500 one year, with far less talent. That group didn't even come close to a .500 record. This is when we transitioned from an also ran to a cupcake.

Scott Edgar protege of Nolan Richardson, Univ. of Arkansas. Had those 4 players and won 9 games. Nee would have done better.

Re: Ethan Morton

Bryant McCallister was the best player on some really bad teams. Edgar-Porter-Nee-Rock Bottom. I was actually praying for Jim Satalin's perennial 14 wins to come back...I think Carroll would have been a success (with administration backing of course) but he failed to get Danny Fortson. This is out of date as far as KD's record goes.
Chick Davies 1924–1948 314–106 .748
Dudey Moore 1948–1958 191–70 .732
Red Manning 1958–1974 247–138 .642
John Cinicola 1974–1978 52–56 .481
Mike Rice 1978–1982  62–49 .559
Jim Satalin 1982–1989  85–120 .415
John Carroll 1989–1995  73–98 .427
Scott Edgar 1995–1998  29–55 .345
Darelle Porter 1998–2001  23–64 .264
Danny Nee 2001–2006  42–102 .292
Ron Everhart 2006–2012  99–89  .527
Jim Ferry 2012–2017     60–97 .382
Keith Dambrot 2017–present  16–16  .500

Re: Ethan Morton

Anywhere except one place would be fine with me.  In 2 years maybe he'll come back home and consider us, like Carmody will.

If memory serves me, McAllister led the A10 in scoring and assists one year when Duquesne was really bad (take your pick).

Re: Ethan Morton

Ethan Morton of Butler committed to Purdue and Matt Painter this evening.  I think he made a great choice in picking a good school with a style that fits his ability.  Purdue made a great run this year, and but for an unlikely missed free throw from a great shooter would have beaten Virginia!
