Re: Davidson

Did not see the game, but saw the stats.

Several players playing the most minutes are not scoring.  That is an equation that's doomed to fail.  Again, Sole plays only 7 minutes.  Perhaps there are legit reasons for her limited time, but I just don't see Duquesne winning many games with only one legit 'big' in the line-up (Lass).  It's too easy for the defense to crowd her and deny her good touches.  Because this team is not quick, you need Sole (who Dan said was the best offensive player he has ever coached) playing serious minutes.  She will not develop with such limited time on the court.

Re: Davidson

This team lacks everything.  No leadership, No heart, No rhythm.  Chassidy and Juca don't start anymore because of this and even when they get in the game they aren't bringing much.

Laia Sole was billed as this great post but she can't score either.

Not sure what else coach can do as he's already benched two seniors who are in a major funk.  No one else wants to step up and score.

How many easy layups can this team miss?

What's scary is this team loses what was supposed to be one of the best senior classes in school history next year and I don't know where the scoring is going to come from beyond this year either.

Coach lit em up in his post game presser too according to Sarah Spencer on Twitter.

Re: Davidson

Just watched the post game presser. Dan pulled no punches. Coming into the year, guard play was perceived to be a Dukes strength. It has been anything but. Libby has been adequate, Amanda has shown flashes. The seniors can get shots but they are never in rhythm. Watching live last night, guard play looked like this to me. Bring the ball up and the useless dribble until someone came open, then pass. Guard then ball faked or went into a useless dribble. Wait for next pass. Repeat. Shot clock running down, get a hurried shot. No crisp ball movement to get open shots. That double high post set is so predictable that it reminds of how poorly it worked for Jim Ferry. Works once, then is useless. I am as old school as they come since I learned the game in the 50s. What has happened to pass, cut, layer screens, pass to the post, opposite pass, etc. offense??? I get dribble drive and motion offense but the ball needs to move. In the second game, Coach Dambrot must have yelled “MOVE IT” a dozen times. The ladies do too much dribbling, do not have enough anticipation as to where to be to receive a pass, and  do not make hard quick cuts or hard screens to get open. Three guards works when the guards work in tandem with posts and move. Guess I am just old since I prefer three forwards. But this Dukes team simply isn’t constructed for that. Dan laid down the gauntlet to the team last night. Let’s see if they improve or remain average at best.

Re: Davidson

I've been a fiercely loyal supporter but I have to admit I'm disappointed. Team looks totally out of synch.

Someone needs to step up or this will be a lost season.

Re: Davidson

Coach Burt was at the Wash High and West Greene game on tuesday but I didn't see anyone there that looked like they could help us. Maybe he was trying to get in early on the grade school kid that was making the news last year.

I don't want this to sound like a knock on the kids -- they're both good players -- but they played their way our of starting roles. You have to go with the players who give you the best chance to win.

Re: Davidson

I don't want to get into the inner workings of this team, and why things have seemingly gone awry, but just wanted to echo the earlier comments, regarding the success of the women's team over the course of the last 6-7 years and to show gratitude for what we have witnessed by these players and coaches.  They were the only winning basketball team that we had to follow during this period, and they made us proud to share their success with them.  They all seem to be very nice young people, and have always been very approachable every time I've had the chance to speak with them off the court.  So, I think we are all pulling for this team to somehow solve the puzzle and get back on track.  The prize is still attainable at the end of the season, so let's try and pull in the same direction and get this done!
