Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (H)

Another exciting game!!  Glad to hear the crowd was into it.  Watching on ATT Sports it did not look like a packed house.  Hope that changes this weekend.  Let's Go Dukes

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (H)

The Brotherhood of the team is coming together. So many big plays by so many players. They just don’t quit and they are tough. Lots of weird game stats in this one; but I was very surprised that Michael Hughes only played 19 minutes (seemed like a lot more).

My goodness. We tried our best to let them back in it with terrible free throw shooting, but that was a gutsy effort. Marcus weathers played like a man.

I could not believe that the worst team in the A10 was something like 17-21 and the Dukes were something like 3-10 in clutch free throws in the last two minutes.

Whew!

Free throw shooting has been pretty good this year. Of all the times for it to go south. Oh well, a win is a win.

I think the Dukes were just about out of gas physically and emotionally; I think that contributed to the missed FT’s.

Looking forward to seeing this. I've noticed the last few team's board after the Dukes win reads "Oh, don't worry guys. These Duquesne Dukes are totally terrible based on this, this and that and our boys will be strapped up and ready to go (despite our team's poor record or glaringly bad flaws)" By the end of the thread it's either fire the coach or it was the refs fault.

It's also funny to me how SLU fans think so highly of themselves when historically they really aren't some power in the least. But they act like they're a Big East school.

Anyways, rebounding was an issue and defensively it has been all year but on the flip side SLU was hounded into 23 turnovers.

Eric was huge on the offensive glass and a big key to the win while Marcus was outstanding and has been giving an all league performance through 1/3 of the conference season.

The 3 pt shooting is erratic, so we'll likely continue to see various zones and Bizeau may end up being a zone buster in spot minutes.

Didn't see Rotroff's injury just saw him limping. Hope he's ok.

Extra shoutout  to Marcus and Eric holding the fort down low as KD gambled on waiting to get M Hughes back in and it paid off as I don't think DU relinquished the lead once going ahead on the first possession after trailing all first half. M Hughes third foul was around the 16:00 mark of the second half and he didn't enter again, IIRC, til the under 8 TO.

Beating Travis Ford is always a plus.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (H)

Big win for the young Dukes. Couple of stats that that caught my eye. Carry had 4 to's in the first half and only one in the 2nd. Gavin with 7 pts. in 8 minutes and Weathers with 11 of 13 free throws is continuing to raise his percentage. It was nice to have an easy one after all the close games we've been having.

Then we need to get back to the basics. Countless laps before practice, thousands of FTs at the end of practice, sprints after practice, then some speed lifting for the legs, shoulders, and chest.

I don't think we want any excuses from here.

Big win over a top 100 team.  Game ball not doubt to Marcus Weathers.  He ids playing great ball, and keeps getting better.  He, Hughes and EW gave us the physicality we needed to pull this off.  What can you say about Carry, he is a stud!  Go Dukes!

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (H)

TDM appeared winded at the end. He was leaving everything short. I'm not sure about anyone else though. I trust Dambrot to address the concerns though, I'm not sure running the guys to death is the solution a few days before a team known for pressing pretty much the whole game.

Weathers gets the game ball for sure. Last night was his best game, and the strides he has made from the line are awesome. He shot 41% in the non-conference season and is up to 81% on the conference season. In a four point game one of your previous worst shooters going 11/13 from the line is huge.

It was truly a team effort though. The sum is greater than the sum of parts at this point. There seems to be a different MVP every game, and everyone is finding a way to contribute even when they don't have their A game.

The arena looked half full on TV, but was audible on the broadcast. Most importantly the players seemed to appreciate the fans. Dambrot has been pushing that since he got here, but it seemed to be the players themselves embracing the atmosphere last night. They all had smiles on their faces, and I'm sure that played a part in the victory.

Can you get ESPN+ in a sports bar??  The weather is preventing me from driving 3 hours each way.  If the temperature drops...all this rain will be a nightmare.  I would like to watch the game though.  Is ESPN+ something that bars have available??

ESPN+ is not available at a bar; it's just available on the internet/phone/Amazon Fire, etc etc. if you have a subscription at $4.99 per month.
But the game is on AT&T Sports Net Pittsburgh.  In some Ohio areas, that may be available in a bar.
You can first check here to see what cable/Direct TV/Dish is available:  https://pittsburgh-attsn.att.com/channel-finder/.
Then if it is available, you can find a bar that has that service; i.e. if it is available on Direct TV, you can find a bar with Direct TV.  Hope that helps.  Go Dukes!

For the record, bars definitely can have ESPN+, it's just rare and you'd probably have to call multiple places to find one. Piper's Pub on East Carson St. for example carries ESPN+

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (H)

I had a great idea the other night, get a local DJ, maybe a DU student, to set up his equipment, and play some new music students today listen to during breaks and half time.  Keep the band involved, but instead of 90s hip-hop played thru the sound system, let a local person get some exposure, they can do a concert type thing at halftime.  Cant hurt.  Some of new stuff is pretty cool, and gets the crowd going.

I have a HD projector and big screen....so the ESPN+ subscription works great.  I will keep it for 6 months a year and watch all the Akron soccer and football games and Duq Bball on a big screen.  Never considered it in the past.  Spring and Summer I will drop it.  I am an Indians fan and I get them already.  I will say that the Pirates stadium is really nice and a great place to watch a game. I have a friend who lives in Sewickley and we catch a game occasionally....especially if the Indians are playing in Pittsburgh.

Towson: My wife and I attended a hockey game in Ottawa over the holidays. Between periods they had a DJ and a group of dancers that had the place rocking.
