Pitt Pre-Game Show on 93.7 The Fan Today

I happened to have 93.7 The Fan on the radio at home and the Pitt pre-game show came on with Filiponi and Julius Page.  Filiponi first said that Duquesne was playing for its 20th win and that's a more rare occurrence than Haley's Comet.  They then said that Pitt is definitely a better team than Duquesne and would beat them today if they played--no problem.  They went on to say that there is no rivalry since Pitt wins every game.  They then commented that it's amazing that Duquesne is having its new field house named after UPMC.

Am I a terrible person for hoping that Pitt gets its ass kicked AGAIN today?

Fillipponi's MO is to create controversy. Don't buy in.

Its a pitt station with pitt homers, a former pitt player, and a fan base of delusional fans.   Let them feel good about 2 ACC wins.

UPMC gave DU money to put its 4 letter name on the building.   We wont refer to it as UPMC, we'll just call it the Cooper Fieldhouse, or Coop.

Re: Pitt Pre-Game Show on 93.7 The Fan Today

Typical SHpITT talk... They feel better about their poor season when they can measure themselves as longer than the other local team instead of talking up a better local rivalry with us going for 20 wins.

They got it all... big state school, better facilities, the ACC, favorable media and the classless bastards STILL have to stroke their own frail ego.

It's been happening for generations since they stopped playing Duquesne in football years ago when they got beat.

WVU has the confidence to schedule a football game with us when we start scheduling big but Pitt thinks their shpitt is too far above.

Remember who pays for some of Pitt's athletic facilities.
Southside indoor football practice field-share with the Steelers.
Heinz Field-home football field-shares with Steelers.
Plus tuition subsidies for in state residents.
All courtesy of state taxpayers-some of whom never attended college and could care less about sports
DU had to earn the money--donations, grants and tuition-no state handouts.
Neither Page nor Filliponi and for that matter most of the sports gum flappers remember Pitts before state money. Pitt had some fine(haha) football and basketball teams then(some memorable BB games against CMU).

Re: Pitt Pre-Game Show on 93.7 The Fan Today

Duquesne could beat Pitt if they played again, if they shot really well, but they haven't beaten a team as good as Pitt all season, to this point. And every thing else they are reported as to saying isn't necessarily wrong, Pitt wins nearly all of the games between them, Duquesne hasn't won 20 games recently, they took the money for the naming rights, sure.
Sort of weird then, with all of those things being true enough, and with Duquesne being so far below Pitt according to them, for the Pitt pre-game team to spend time discussing Duquesne, isn't it?
What would cause someone one so far ahead to take time out of their day to discuss someone so far behind?
I am going to chalk it up to the sense of excitement building around Duquesne. A good coaching hire, a new building, and an improved product. Duquesne probably won't close the gap too much until Pitt's coaching staff gets popped with a duffle bag, but enjoy their discomfort and taking time out of their show to discuss the team.

Re: Pitt Pre-Game Show on 93.7 The Fan Today

Unfortunately Pitt will continue to dominate the Dukes. Just look at the Pitt players physical bodies from guards to forwards. I do not have confidence that the Dukes will get to the next level via the weight room. Sorry but Duquesne over the years had a magnet for underperforming staff. If the athletic department employee was somewhat competent they would move to Pitt for more dollars. The good news is that Pitt basketball will continue to wallow in the bottom third of the ACC. Unfortunately, they will continue to dominate the City Game.

Other A-10 teams have physically developed players, so Duquesne should be able to do so as well (given some time) If it was still a case of having under-performing coaching staffs maybe size is a problem but I think coach has already identified this problem and I have confidence it will get get addressed.
