Offline duq81, people like Steve have been relentless in their attacks on Ron. Like friggin' pitbulls in heat. I get where the new poster is coming from. He got spoiled by the fact that Ron finally turned the program around after decades of being a horror show. The AD brings in a new guy and the next thing you know, we're winning 8 games total and just one in the conference. I don't know thow much this person has followed the conversation on this board, but if he or she is coming in cold, I can understand the impression. I wouldn't say I'm relentless and I could do much worse. Just critical and honest. I gave Ron a fair chance and supported him until I just didn't see the program getting better under his guidance. Now when I feel people are overreacting, I'll respond to them with my perspective. I don't think there is anything wrong with that esp or that I'm being unfair. I do my homework and I feel support my arguments well. Last edited by steve19981 (4/22/2013 6:52 pm) Offline Exactly DUQ81 and you are right CLK I do defend GA when all I saw was the irrational blame for letting RE go and the leaked memo, blah, blah, blah was all his master plan and fault, give me a break. I even agreed with Jeralta, not a GA fan, that I thought he should be more proactive with the media and manipulate them more - even though I said easy that is easy for any of us to offer that advice. You finally at least stated the Board, Charlie and GA are all responsible for the black mark that was the leak, but what you fail to see is that would only be true if they intentionally released such a statement!! Believe it or not (profanity) happens sometimes that is unintentional, but I am tired of it all so go ahead with your belief that I am on retainer with GA I don't give a crap - I am sure your Xmas stocking will have a nice candy cane from RE in it - yours too ElDuq!! Last edited by CLK (4/22/2013 7:10 pm) Offline CLK, we must look like a 2-headed monster to these guys. I'm the one who said Charlie, GA and the Board. When I read Jeralta's post about Greg's wife working for a Board member, it concerned me. It may be nothing, but no one will ever know because whether it's something or whether it's something that simply smells bad, or whether it's something that smells bad because there's a pile of Pitt somewhere, no one will ever know. Just like when the other AD was here, the bodies disappear and good times are had by all. Offline So, yeah, there was a little sarcasm in that statement. My sarcasm was combined with a true regret that we didn't land one or two of those studs. No one wants to understand that I'm competitive and that I hate losing, whether it's games or recruits who could help us. And no small amount of sugarcoating will convince me that missing out on these guys isn't another kick in the nads for the hardcore fans, or to Ferry. Offline Gee - it has gotten testy on this board and I feel some blame. On the other hand this stuff shows Duquesne still produces passion. I will probably be more of reader than poster going forward as it is fun reading all the opinions and even the vents. Offline disgustedalum your real crime was responding to me when you expressed your opinion. Among Greg's in crowd, I'm an unpopular figure for expressing that at the time, the wrong guy was shown the door. I look at Greg's record and I see ... nothing. His supporters say Charlie loves him, but from what I can see he may be the only one on campus who does. Student participation at men's BB games continues to decline. No Duquesne team has won an A-10 championship the whole time he's been here. Only one of our teams has made an A-10 final, and that coach has been fired. He's slapped a couple new coats of paint on the locker rooms every year, somehow gets credit for the Consol Arena being built, has eliminated several programs, and we should revere him like he's accomplished something. And as you can see, I continue to voice my displeasure about those things, and others. Offline disgustedalum your real crime was responding to me when you expressed your opinion. Had he just named Greg in his diatribe, I would never have responded, as I am not a Greg apologist. That said, I'm going to defend coach Ferry as much as some of you defend RE, until he has a fair chance to prove himself. That doesn't mean he can't be critiqued, but it does mean defending him against gratuitous attacks like the one disgustedalum made. Offline I also have an extremely sharp tongue, which adds to the aggravation of others, and a bit of a short fuse, especially when someone tries to tell me what I can or should say. You ED? You? You should not denigrate yourself. You should never say things like that about yourself. Never! You cannot and should not say things like that. Just sayin. Offline Mulder with a jab ... and another jab ...

Mr. Brightside, which side of the coin do you wish to call, heads or tails. I don't think it's fair for you to call both. You don't want me bringing RE up, and you don't want me defending him. I keep calling this a circular conversation and it is. Maybe I don't have the good sense to clam up when I should, or maybe I'm a loyal person who stands by people who I think are good to me. I never met RE, but I appreciate what he did here. Apparently, some guys don't appreciate him or his accomplishments. And it seems funny to me that Ron's record was grounds to fire him, but Amodio's record is grounds to keep him employed. Take away Ron's accomplishments, there's precious little for Amodio to point to as success.
And levon, I'll tell you the same thing I tell everyone else. I don't tell you what to post; don't tell me.
I attack Ron no more than you attack Ferry. If I said something to the extent that Ron "whiffed on his top 3 targets," I think some would see that as Ron bashing.

Very poor counselor. I did not say the Board or Charlie was responsible for the leak. It definitely was an agent of the University who had access to a confidential memo. From the circumstance made public I have no doubt in my mind who it was. Regrettably that person seems to have escaped from being held accountable for ruining a good man's career. Good thing he had a friend in Huggins that would give him a chance to undo some of the damage. I am done with this as I have better things to do than engage in this exchang and have what I said deliberately twisted.

Re: Fleshing out the roster, and next season's projected lineup
For the record though I must depart with a couple thoughts
I know I came on strong about Ferry. I was not impressed I admit with hiring a guy with two 20 win seasons and how long it took him. Cannot change that opinion but I proudly wear a Duquesne ring and thus hope I am wrong.
In looking at this recruiting class and the last one, the recruiting sites do not rate them any betlter than recent "Ron years". Again, hope I am wrong. If you are wearing a Duquesne uniform, I support you 100%
Good luck to all and stay passionate because even if we don't like what we post to each other we should all be Dukes!

I also have an extremely sharp tongue, which adds to the aggravation of others, and a bit of a short fuse, especially when someone tries to tell me what I can or should say. I don't work off talking points and I'm not here to make anyone happy but me, so people should be guided by that.
I too want to see Duquesne win, and get back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 36 years. I really want to see Jim Ferry become the most successful coach ever here. I actually like some of the recruits but to me it's all about how he uses them and coaches them. I'm most fearful of the PG, who I worry is too erratic and too selfish to be an effective leader for this team, but in fairness he was a freshman this year. If Ferry can either get him under control or if Tra'vaughn White pushes him aside, it will be a big help.
I haven't seen White, Watkins, Soko or Robinson play. I don't count the You Tube stuff. I can post three minutes of me looking like Michael Jordan (although at my age and weight it will look like slow motion). You have to see these guys defend, rebound, pass, catch, dive for loose balls, etc., to really know what you have. But I think the potential is there.
I'm sorry we lost Quevyn Winters. I thought he was our best recruit last year, and I really liked his game. I think he's going to be a star wherever he ends up. We still have 1-2 open roster spots and we need (I think) at least another wing player.
But this is all my opinion, and you made the mistake of creating guilt by association. Don't let that affect your desire or ability to post here whatever and whenever you want. Don't mention my name and they'll happily let you in the door. Peace. •Thread Starter
