ElDuque. Great line!!  We all want the very same thing. An NACC tourney appearance for the Dukes. I believe we will see it by year four of Ferry & Co.

I'll take it in year 4 but I really want it in 2 or 3. I'm not being sarcastic. I've been hungry for this a long time.

Thanks for having a sense of humor. Some of these other guys, Robin Williams and Rodney Dangerfield could walk in here and they'd start yawning.

I would hope for something sooner. Just trying to be realistic, but the way our recruiting is going, who knows!

Re: Darius Lewis signs with Duquesne

Wow!  What did they feed that kid growing up?  He's a foot taller than either of his parents .

Even decent hands would be a big upgrade over Martins.

That is a great picture of Darius and his parents.  May those smiles continue throughout his years at Duquesne.

From Duquesne website

April 26, 2013

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University head men's basketball coach Jim Ferry announced that 6-11, 240-pound Darius Lewis (Lexington, Ky./IMG Academy) has signed a National Letter of Intent, making him the fifth member of the 2013-14 recruiting class.Lewis, a native of Lexington, Ky., spent his past two seasons at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He averaged 13.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game in 2012-13. Lewis has dropped nearly 60 pounds since leaving Tates Creek High School for IMG prior to the 2011-12 season.

"I'm really excited to have Darius as part of the Duquesne program," said Ferry. "He is another great kid - and outstanding student - who comes from a great family. Darius is a true big man who I see having a bright future in our program. He has tremendous potential and a great upside. He has worked very hard to get to where he is now, and I expect him to continue to work to become the kind of true center who can have a presence in the Atlantic 10."

Re: Darius Lewis signs with Duquesne

Hope he works himself into the presence that Ferry mentions. By the way just looking at the picture of the last signings Robinson looks like he has an intimidating presence to him. I know I'm imtimidated.

Re: Darius Lewis signs with Duquesne

Lewis and Robinson give us a couple of true big bodies. Soko's also a solid dude.

I don't think Watkins is rail thin by any means. If Datt discovers cheesburgers and weights, we're set.

We haven't had this kind of size since we were students, and the team had Tunny, Atkins, Arnold, and Moon. It will be interesting to see what our style will be. You can still be uptempo, even with size, but we ought to be better in the half court. Ferry talked about rebounding, and defending the basket. He's got the size to do that now.

with only JJ, Colter and Jay Jones back this is a new team, Ferry told the others all year they needed to be better, still wish Winters had stayed.

Re: Darius Lewis signs with Duquesne

Datt was voted most likely to turn into Fred Moon.

Re: Darius Lewis signs with Duquesne

I had a front row seat for Moon's senior year. He surprised everyone, and at just the right time. Dukes had lost John Moore, their starting center, to an injury that would end the year for him. Ricky Tunstall, although 7 feet tall, was really raw as a freshman. Moonie was a 5th year player who had never shown much before. He ended up providing defense, rebounding, and a little scoring (he ended up with a record shooting percentage), although he seemed to wear down as the season went on. With Moon, the Dukes were 6-9 (Moon), 6-7 (Atkins), 6-9 (Arnold) up front, with Tunstall, Rod Scott (6-5), and Joey Myers (6-7) coming off the bench.

Those were some good players there. Myers was another one who really blossomed his senior year. Satalin made him the centerpiece, and he lived up to it, playing well enough to get drafted.

Re: Darius Lewis signs with Duquesne

Myers was drafted in the 7th round by the Nets. I had a connection with the team at the time who told me that it was done as a favor to someone ... I think one of the scouts or someone in the Nets' front office had a connection to Satalin or Duquesne. I knew before the draft that it would happen. Not that there was anything wrong with Joey; he was a good college player but a step slow for the NBA.

I miss that connection. I used to get courtside seats, free, whenever the Lakers came to town so I could see Nixon. Tossed back many an errant pass to the refs and heard every conversation on the court.
