Re: Game Thread - George Washington Colonials (H)

I'm disgusted; here r my thoughts:
*Westender, Vickroy, Dennis 91, you guys are on point, no question;
*WTF is up with KD's clock management!!!  End of Bonnies and last night (also end of half last night) we run no set plays.  It's spread out and let SC go one on one from the top of the key.  Other teams are on to this KD.  No movement by 4 of the 5 players on the Court does not usually work.  (I yelled to the coaches at halftime just that "run a play"!  MHughes looked up and blew me a kiss - very funny actually, but I know KD heard me.  Going one on one is not my idea of a good play call.)  How about spread 3 guys out, put Weathers at the foul line and run a 2 man game with him and SC?  Both can get to the rack and MW can set the pick and roll - either way one of them gets to the basket.  If other players try to help well then you have an open shooter - of course with the way we shoot that is a problem too!  I am just frighin sick of this bullshit.
*I'm sorry, the coaching decisions or lack thereof at critical moments is starting to bother;
*We have absolutely gotten nothing consistently from the 2 or 3 position for a good part of the year - outside of TDM when he gets hot, which he does at a decent clip.
*Talent level needs to improve, no question.  Look at all these other teams and the young talent they have.  Maceo gets a pass given his circumstance, but outside of SC who really stands out that is a recruited player in year 3???
*The league will be even better next year and to lose to a team playing that many freshman is UNACCEPTABLE!!
*KD, remember what you said as an early step, "protect your home court" (and I don't want to hear about PPG as not a home court)  and "win the games you are supposed to win".  Well last night was a classic example of a complete and utter failure on both counts!
*As I pointed out before, shake up this assistant coaching staff and get an ace recruiter in here with AAU contacts etc.  How do you think UMass got Mitchell!!!!!!!!
*We now have 4 of our toughest 5 games of the season coming up and if we don't surpass 19 wins then I am sorry the season cannot be viewed as a success - especially with the soft out of conference schedule.
*We are all mostly guilty of the rose colored glasses thinking we are better than we actually are.
*Are A. Miller and E. Buckley really A-10 talent?  Rotroff?  Even with injury a fair question.  Compare  these other freshman guards and bigs to what you see on these other teams!!  If they are not, who is doing this evaluating???!!!!
*Do other teams guards seem more athletic or is it just me?

I hate to say it boys, but I may be done for the season, I almost didn't sleep last night.  As Joey G said, some of our shooters "couldn't hit sand if they fell off a camel" and he is right.  GMan has noted the clock management and lack of actually formulating a set play and I concur G.  GMan also thinks our guards are not quick enough - could be right.  The Professor sees the same old (profanity) and it is hard to argue otherwise.  Iron Duke81 wants stronger players, too soft, fair point there as well. This was not a game we should have lost.  UNACCEPTABLE, UNACCEPTABLE, UNACCEPTABLE.

PISTOL OUT.

Start playing Ellis.   There is NOTHING to lose, esp at Dayton and SBU by playing Ellis.  Let him face Toppin and Osuniyi....see what it will take to be a good A10 big man.   If we lose both, who cares, we are supposed to.

Agreed Townson, but he continues to be in the doghouse for whatever reason.

Re: Game Thread - George Washington Colonials (H)

After watching 25 games this year i'm in agreement with those of you that think we are lacking enough A-10 talent. Hopefully the 2 kids signed and the verbal are. Don't know what he's thinking or where he is but I'd like to see Frankie back next year. Not sure if anyone agrees with that but it would give us another player with a lot of experience for next year.

I've talked to people who claim to be in the know who say he is definitely coming back and those who say he is definitely leaving. Obviously, I learned nothing from these conversations.

I couldn't disagree more. He's coming off of an injury, and he wasn't any better than what we have. Look at his stats last year as a redshirt sophomore, and then look at Lamar Norman's this year as a true sophomore. Not much difference. If anything, Norman's are a bit better, although Frankie is probably a better defender. Plus we're bringing in a true 3 point threat. I want some minutes available for him. Someone has to leave. Are you ready to see someone else leave so that Hughes can return? If he leaves, it won't be a disaster for him because he will only require a one year commitment from whatever team picks him up. Even though he hasn't lived up to his rating coming out of high school, any mid level team with a need at his position should be interested. If he chooses wisely, he'll play lots of minutes next year. Of course he could always gamble if he gets an offer like Tarin Smith did with UConn. Smith had a better track record than Hughes, but the risk of going to a high level school is that you may never see the floor. Not trying to beat up on Hughes, he has some value, but I think he can find a better situation as a grad transfer.

Gotta put that aside for a week.   What is he doing all season long that wont let him get off the bench?   Skipping practices?    IDK.  Give him a shot.   Rotroff too.  He can play 10 minutes.

In my opinion if he's healthy he gives us a better chance to win next year. If he wants to come back he should have the opportunity or he is being the one forced to leave.

Rick I absolutely agree with you.  Last year Frankie made 7 three pointers against GW.  Didn't see anyone doing that last night for the Dukes.  If this kid wants to come back he should be welcomed.   As far as who will stay and who will leave I would leave that to the coach.

That was a nice game. TDM has a 7 three game this year, and Lamar has a 6 three game this year. The problem with all three is that the 1-9, 2-8, and 1-7 games are more frequent. Compare them to Mike and especially Marcus. Dud games are few and far between for Marcus. Mike produces at a lower level, but he's much more consistent than our 2s and 3s are. You can count on those guys. What good does it do for TDM to go 7-15 one night, if he follows it up with a 1-9? These guys have to become consistent, or we're never getting over the hump. I don't expect them to become Micah Mason, but more consistent play would be nice. Maybe Frankie is thinking of coming back. Seeing the competition, why wouldn't he?
