Offline 21 wins for the men, 20 for the women. Offline Golden age for sure. To put this in perspective, this is @Duqmbb best record since 1962, and we are not done yet. These teams deserve better than a fan base consisting of a dwindling group of constipated old alums too tired to stand up and cheer, and a no show spirit less student body. Heck even Fordham gets better student support than DU. It is not too late, however, to jump on the Bandwagon this year. Let's get a big crowd and beat Richmond, and go on to win the A10 and shock the so called experts. Offline Golden age for sure. Don't forget, we did win 21 games twice back during your callow youth. 21-5 Top 10 finish in 69, and 21-4, Top 15 finish in 71. Jarrett and the Nelsons. Didn't want to dispute you, but we do have young posters who may not know, and I didn't want it to falsely seem like those were crap teams during that era. Those teams are what made me a fan, and this year's team is the best we've had since that era, but not quite equal, which marked the end of the glory years. If you had to, which Dukes player or nationally known college basketball player of the last 10 years would any of the posters around in that era say is most similar to Jarret in size, athleticism, talent, style of play, etc.... Of recent Dukes, maybe BJ Monteiro comes closest. Offline If I remember right Jarrett had a very nice fall away jumper. Offline Jarett walked on every shot, or so they said. I didn't see him walk, just the ball in the hoop. The Jewel played in the pros as did lots of those old constipated players. I'm that age, and haven't written this year. So, hello. I live in L.A. and live and die on every Duquesne game. Now they're nicely streamed, so I've missed little. This is a great year and I hope (pray?) it keeps on going. No matter what, a great year. I would say the major difference, besides talent, is the guys committing to defense. Even our diminutive three point specialist said as much post game. I had it out with Godduring the forth quarter, "When are You going to let us win one of these? The devil appeared and I had to sign my name on some papers, but we won! Onward! Or as Red once said trying to rally the troops, "NOW!" He wasn't the most verbal guy and though I was a drug dealer. Never a dealer, but... Hey, it was 1970; give me a break. NOW! I think I'm going to break out Dave Pavlick's warm up and have it dry cleaned. I'll look sporty if the devil tries to collect. Offline Jarett walked on every shot, or so they said. This board needs more west coast stream of consciousness posts like yours. Good stuff!
CURRENT RECORD 9 - 14 (4-6 in the A-10)
It’s a golden age for Duquesne basketball
And counting.
The best part? The nucleus of talent for both teams will be back. The frosh are outstanding and more bluechips are on the way.
Were there a couple disappointments this season. Absolutely. But there were also some stellar highlights.
Do these teams play a lot of close games? Yes. But they WIN them. That’s what good teams do.
We have two really good teams. Two great coaches and staffs.
What we seem to lack is a fan base that believes. I know we have a couple diehards who, like me, are trying to enjoy these runs, despite the hand wringing. I mean, who the hell struggles with winning?
Please, don’t @ me unless you’re 100% behind these teams. I’d sell a pinky to see the Dukes in person right now and the privilege seems to be wasted on some folks.
My hope is that next year when we’re the Dayton of the conference that the bandwagon fills with more passionate fans.
