Re: Dambrot Offers 2020? PF - Jabari Walker

He might as well join a program on the rise in their new building.

What about Andre Harris?
A PF and a verbal commitment
Harris and Walker both appear to be PF.

Should be a good addition to that sharpshooter, Jeff Riesling, we have coming in.

For what it's worth PSN story has Harris as a center.

I wonder if this kid might not play the SF position.  He plays defense very well, rebounds, and can shoot.  Here is a full game video.  He is #35 in black.

Re: Dambrot Offers 2020? PF - Jabari Walker

I am always excited to learn about offers to quality recruits. This is particularly exciting because it gives us something to discuss.

It also gives me agita for obvious reasons. I am steadying my nerves for possible transfer portal heartbreak.

Jabari & his dad certainly think he's a SF. I wonder what role pedigree played in this offer?

In addition to the link above, YouTube & Hudl both have an abnormally large amount of significant game footage available for a 3 star.

He seems like a great get to keep the program moving forward. I am conflicted as to whether it is better to root for no spot to be available for him or that he adds to an already solid class.

It would be an act of mercy to fans if the NCAA made kids commit to enter or not enter the portal within 2 weeks of their season concluding. The March-May waiting game is brutal.

Re: Dambrot Offers 2020? PF - Jabari Walker

This of course, makes me very nervous. This would put us at 3 over the limit. Other than Frankie Hughes not coming back after sitting out, there are no obvious departures. Could someone have grade issues, or be unhappy over playing time? I guess we'll find out. Truthfully, only Sincere, Mike, and Marcus are irreplaceable, although you'd hate to see a lot of turnover.

Re: Dambrot Offers 2020? PF - Jabari Walker

I've consulted with the Oracle (the "GMan") and he believes that with 2 big offers out there could Rotroff possibly be considering a transfer - I hope not.  The Oracle also rightfully mentioned that KD has conducted, like all coaches do, his player end of season exit interviews and he has possibly explained the writing on the wall to a couple of guys.  Who you ask? Well, as others on the Board have mentioned, with more guards coming in and the current lack of playing time could Miller and Buckley be making a move? Buckley showed me some things, but honestly I am not as confident in Miller. The other point the GMan/Oracle mentioned is that KD may be considering what to do with Ellis.  I love the kids tangibles (height, athleticism, skill, potential - you name it), but if he can't/won't make the necessary commitment to Bball and college, with the determination to follow through, then can KD afford to continue to carry him?  As another old timer that I text with mentioned, you then have to question Elliis' "love of the game".  As the Professor says...............time will tell.

Re: Dambrot Offers 2020? PF - Jabari Walker

I know some people don’t like speculation, but my guess would be F Hughes (already gone), Miller, and either Ellis/Rotroff/Buckley.

Wouldn’t want any of the last three to leave for different reasons each. The core guys talk about how this is a family and how tight they all are, I understand the current landscape but think the guys at the top of the roster have established something and will stick together.

It would take a big, big, program to come sniffing around to sway the top guys, and in some ways feel the lack of respect from the A10 awards could actually help us in this regard.

Not to be rude or cynical, but Miller is clearly not an A10 level player. My thoughts on the potential third shoe to drop:

Rotroff: he looked REALLY SLOW coming back from the injury but really picked it up in spot minutes down the stretch. I would hope he stays for post depth at the least.

Buckley: used mostly for defense in key possessions to cover for TDM. Also made mistakes offensively and looked nervous out there with the ball in his hands. We heard he was potentially the best shooter on the team, and I don’t remember anyone else shooting more air balls off set shots. I would be ok with him going with Roesing and Acuff coming in.

Ellis: looks good in garbage time, which was the only time he played. The most talented of these three, and also saw the least time which is damning. What good does that talent do if it’s on the bench. The situation with the coach got worse, not better, over the course of the year. Got to the point where he wasn’t traveling away, and was at the end of the bench past the walk ons at home. Always seemed to stay engaged though.

Thinking through it it would make most sense that Acuff and Roesing will replace Buckley and Miller. Higher rated recruits and look more talented.

This is my guess, ready for the heat I’ll catch for this!!!

Re: Dambrot Offers 2020? PF - Jabari Walker

Are you forgetting that Steele is gone and then yes, Hughes.  My guess and it is only a guess, is Miller.  Buckely actually got some playing time and once he settles, his offense will be back -that is why he was recruited in the first place was my understanding.
Doubt if Rotroff would leave with Hughes always in foul trouble and being a senior - remember that just because our injured red shirt man is coming back doesn't me he is ready.  I also respectfully disagree that Ellis is the most talented of the 3.

Need to lose Steele plus 3 more if Walker comes here. So, even if the ones you mentioned go, you need to lose one more. Are there any unknown issues with Kelly (knee slow to heal, etc.)? Maybe one of the recruits isn't coming. I guess we'll find out.

Re: Dambrot Offers 2020? PF - Jabari Walker

Until there is a signed LOI from Dre Harris, a fair amount of this speculation is useless. But, that ain't gonna stop me. I am going through hoops withdrawal. I can't do this cold turkey.

KD had proven to be somewhat of a player loyalty driven contrarian. Even so, after Ellis's near complete absence from game participation, iffy reputation, coach's public comments, & his late season travel ban, the prospect of his returning is a 25/75 proposition at best.

Mhughes, Weathers, Kelly, Rotroff, Ellis, Walker, & Harris will not all be on the roster come June.

I really believe that if Mhughes, Weathers, Sin, Maceo, Rotroff, Lamar, & Kelly stay, the program's outlook will have changed permanently; which, in this case, means until 2023.That amount of player, chemistry, & talent retention is a very powerful force.

Assuming Lamar stays put & TDM being very likely to enjoy a meaningful senior season, the combination of Acuff & Jett coming aboard is likely the death knell for Miller at DU. This is doubly true if Harris & Walker sign because it just about eliminates the possibility of Miller sliding down to play significant minutes as a defense first, small ball 3.

I find it intriguing that Frankie has neither entered the transfer portal nor given any sign of remaining in the program. Maybe he's hedging his bets while determining his market value.

Re: Dambrot Offers 2020? PF - Jabari Walker

I don't have a clue about who is staying and who might leave.  I hope that whatever happens the players and the team land on their respective feet and each benefits when all is said and done.  I trust that KD will manage this process as well as he can.

I do know this... I really enjoyed this season. As for next season the future is bright and I am excited that Tyson Acuff will be on the team.  I don't know much but he looks like one heck of a player--the real deal.

That’s alright, no hard feelings. Out of curiosity, do you think it’s Rotroff or Buckley and why?

Re: Dambrot Offers 2020? PF - Jabari Walker

I have no idea but Rotroff played a lot more as the season progressed and I can’t see Ellis returning. Buckley is a big question mark. At times I thought the league was beyond him and then Coach played him more for defense. If I had to bet I’d say Hughes, Miller, Steele, n Ellis. I wish Hughes would stay.

Re: Dambrot Offers 2020? PF - Jabari Walker

you cant look at playing time of a freshman and think he is leaving.   Miller's cousin is a coach on the team(Gibbs).   Buckley is the backup PG in theory.   It does seem like one of Rotroff/Kelly/Ellis will move on, due to simple numbers.   It would make sense for any of them to go someplace else and be a starter.   That will hurt in 2021-22 season, cause Hughes and Weathers will be gone.   Maybe 2 of those 3 are considering leaving, therefore recruiting this new kid.   Who knows.   Stay tuned!

This may be a case of KD looking at his roster, and realizing that the bigs he'll have after Mike and Marcus graduate, are just not good enough to carry the load going forward. Not a single one of the freshman bigs he's brought to campus since he came here has looked like he could become a prime time player. Rotroff, and Kelly have looked like they could eventually become contributors, but you're going to need a stud, or two in the front court, or you'll be back down with the also rans. I don't think he views Harris, and Walker as projects, but as guys who will be ready to take over after Mike, and Marcus are done. Sometimes a coach has to be realistic, and make the hard choices. When he brought in five bigs last year (including Ellis), I think he felt that at least one or two of them would have shown that they could carry the load by now. That hasn't happened. Swingle, and Bizeau washed out after one year, and Kelly, and Rotroff got hurt, and while they did contribute, neither showed so much that you could consider them to be a sure thing going forward. Ellis doesn't appear to be in his plans at this point. With that in mind, he needed to go out and find some bigs who should be ready to play. Getting Steele this year was indeed a steal. He's not a stud, but he's certainly a competent player that you could give major minutes to. If we don't land Walker, and Harris struggles, KD may need to go the JC route a year from now. You can't win in the A10 with nothing up front, I don't care how good Sincere, Maceo, and the two freshman guards are.
