Grad Transfer - Matt Moyer

Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein·12m Vanderbilt grad transfer Matt Moyer tells me he's receiving interest from Oregon State, GW, Dayton, Kent State, Cal Poly, and Duquesne. Immediately eligible.

Re: Grad Transfer - Matt Moyer

He could be a bargaining chip for a player that KD really wants.
As  for Moyer,  he may want as much interest that he can obtain
to use as his bargaining chip.

Yea I am sure that KD and the coaches from GW, Dayton, & Oregon State are all idiots for looking at this guy.

What is clear to me with KD looking at this kid and the offer to Walker is that he wants to add a bigger SF for next year.  I don't know what his issues were at Vandy.  Moyer, was a big time recruit coming out of South Kent Prep in Connecticut, Moyer was a four-star recruit, rated as the 66th overall prospect and was named the Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year.. I trust that KD knows what he is doing.

Re: Grad Transfer - Matt Moyer

If anything, it makes me think Andre Harris isnt coming, with this and the recruitment of Walker.   But I have no idea on that, just thinking out loud, or on keyboard.

While I Trust in the Coaching Staff (It is THEIR pay check on the line)  OTHER THAN DAYTON -  I'm a bit underwhelmed by the other offers -  GW?? Kent State?? Cal Poly??  Oregon State??  -

Hope we can better utilize the scholarship (s) available.

Yes -  Really -  I share the attitude of Towson Kid and Duq 81 -  In I would pass on the kid -  Despite the information provided about when he came out of high school -  I think perhaps a BETTER indication is the 2 points per game, 2 rebounds per game while playing 12 minutes on a 11-21 team.

With a coach who has been there only one year GW is probably in need of several players -  Oregon State finished 8th in the Pac12 - so other than Dayton I'm UNIMPRESSED with the schools on his list.

Re: Grad Transfer - Matt Moyer

Al,
I remind you that the Dukes lost to GW and twice to Dayton.  I also saw Kent play a game late in the season against a pretty good Buffalo team, and Kent definitely had some rugged looking physical dudes that could have helped the Dukes; so I'm not concerned with his "list" at all; only whether or not he can play!  I'll leave that evaluation to the coaches.

Levon:  If you read my INITIAL post --  I stated -  I WOULD TRUST in the Coaches --  It is THEIR paycheck that is on the line when decisions are made as to whom to bring into the program.

I stick by my hypothesis that if they DO need to bring in someone else -  hopefully there is a better option out there than someone who averaged 2 points and 2 boards per game on an 11-21 team --  I think THAT might be the indication of how well he can play.

Of course if the Coaches might be aware of Multiple Transfers to which the posters are unaware of - or signings/offers which are not accepted or do not materialize -  would move him up on the list.

Re: Grad Transfer - Matt Moyer

Right,
I'm not sure what transpired in his career, but he was originally a Syracuse recruit, who was a prototype mobile forward  with great length and offensive skill. He was obviously a big-time player out of High School.  Maybe he has had injuries and hasn't been able to live up to his billing.  If you look at the HS film, it is pretty impressive.

Re: Grad Transfer - Matt Moyer

Could he be another SC or EW?
A very good player overlooked for
whatever reason?

If he was overlooked he would not have been highly ranked and highly recruited. He got to college and his coaches saw him every day in practice.

I think the correct term is underachieved. I trust KD to get the best out of guys but 2 pts and 2 rebs on a bad team does concern me. Could have been one of the guys who “peaked in high school”.

Yeah, this guy is the opposite of Williams, and Carry. He was thought to be a stud, but hasn't worked out. It happens. Kale Abrahamson was a Big 10 recruit, and he wasn't half the player that Baylee is. Scouting is an imperfect science. That said, as has been mentioned, you never know who won't be here, so of course you'd rather take a gamble with him as opposed to having an unused scholarship.
