I always think it is a questionable strategy when a player of this quality goes for one of a major conference's traditionally low-achieving programs. Odds are, he goes there & distinguishes himself as a top talent on teams that struggle to go .500 overall, almost certainly lay at the bottom of the conference standings, & whose coach will be gone in 2 years or less. (Collins was once the heir apparent to Coach K but he has to be on the hot seat after going 36-59 overall & 13-45 in the conference over the last 3 seasons.)

Julian Roper and Julian Lewis - 2021 Guards
Julian Roper 2021 - Dukes Offer Detroit 6’4” point guard with big time interest.
Julian Lewis 2021 - 6’6” shooter from Ann Arbor Huron.
Both mention KD and Charles Thomas who continue to mine Michigan and aren’t afraid of the big boys.

Roper had some very big offers from other Power 5 teams as well as the cream of the mid-major crop. I just don't get why you would set yourself up for that much losing when your talents are in such demand.
Maybe he is also a spectacular student & NW was too strong a combination of BIG 10 cache & outstanding academics. He certainly would have been an enormous get for DU.
