This isn't good

All 23 campuses in the California state university system will remain closed through the fall semester with online classes only. Only lab courses will be conducted in person. While it's not yet clear how that would impact athletic programs, it doesn't look good. Mark Emmert, the NCAA president, has gone on record saying that college sports can't be played if campuses can't reopen. And the Big East conference has said that it won't play if its campuses aren't able to open. The Division II CCAA, which comprises mostly the non-D1 California state schools, has suspended athletics for the fall. Recall that Duquesne has a home game scheduled with San Jose State, part of the California state university system, in November. Barring a major breakthrough, I'd say that game's in jeopardy right now along with the rest of our season.

Re: This isn't good

The MAC announced yesterday that there will be no post season tournaments for any of the “Olympic” sports for the next 4 years.

And only the top 8 schools advance to conference bb tournament.   This is all being done due to budget concerns.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/mid-american-conference-cancels-postseason-tournaments-for-eight-sports-changes-basketball-format/amp/

The college sports landscape is going to change dramatically when this is over.   This will be like WW2.  Some schools will no longer have sports programs.

Re: This isn't good

I can't take it anymore. Just when we're on the verge of really taking a major step forward....Sigh! Charlie Brown kicking the football...
But my biggest disappointment is for the high school seniors across the country. They have taken the SAT's, been accepted and now have no idea whether or not their school will even be open (I'm sure as the virus continues to nag all summer and hot spots continue to pop up, more colleges will re-examine their first semester). Prayers for all of them..

Re: This isn't good

Basketball as defined by the NCAA is not a fall sport.  Rather it is defined as a winter sport in their sports seasons.   So time is bought there.   Schools could hopefully open up for winter semester and conference schedules be played.   And maybe a few local non conference games.

Re: This isn't good

I just cant believe there will be no sports in fall.Ohio State and all the blue bloods are going to play.OSU
and PSU have too much power and dictate to the NCAA .Money and lots of it means there will be sports.
I think Dukes start playing in January and play A10 league opponents. No NCAA tournament this year.
Ohio State is playing football somehow.Football funds the entire athletic dept. and all the non revenue sports.Govenor Dewine renewed his season tickets for OSU football.Ohio,Pennsylvania rust belt states
that lives for sports. California, different ,laid back and going bankrupt.California in decline.Rust belters
live for sports. Its more important and gives people sense of pride.Fake news.

Re: This isn't good

Duquesne could be at a crossroads like all these colleges,  dorm rooms sitting empty. What will the future of education be ,will online education be the new normal and education on campus disappear??
I don't like donating money to athletic programs but Duquesne needs help or we go back to the dark years
in basketball.Get rid of football, it eats up money, lack of interest in Duquesne football.Less than 2,000
seat stadium. 35 or so full ride scholarships and no one cares.
Dambrot is our last chance, this is it.If he fails basketball will die at Duquesne.Dambrot is the savior.

Some schools will no longer exist anymore. This is going to be the big culling of higher ed, and it was on the horizon for years, regardless of this current health crisis!

Re: This isn't good

Let's hope that with the summer warmer weather and the declining daily covid-19 numbers that this virus does go away like the SARS virus did a few years ago.  States are being to open up faster than previously announced because of the better daily numbers. If it does pretty much disappear by mid-summer, then schools still have time to change their minds.

Stew football is key at Duquesne due to title 9 concerns. Balance men & women’s sports. Due to the virus does the NCAA & congress waive title9? In regard to men’s football & basketball money talks. This country needs to get back to  a norm. Please no comments that I am a racist or this opinion is political but sports will return. Go Dukes. Next year will be a year to remember. In Dambrot we trust. Oh yeah eat Shi# Pitt.

Re: This isn't good

Trying to keep a positive outlook about there hopefully being a season. If there is not I think our seniors might get another year of eligibility and then Pitt can once again break their promise of playing DUQ.
