Good interview but where was Zac Weiss wife talking on the phone during the zoom broadcast.

Anyone notice Ferry's powerhouse beating VCU. Ferry may be a guy who can't recruit, but who can coach talent brought in by someone else.

Re: Game Thread - UNC Greensboro Spartans

It was a lot better, the whole attitude seemed more up beat, into the game.   Still need some work, lots of wasted possessions, not a lot of time to work on things before A10 starts, so hopefully they get better tomorrow.    The young guys are looking good, Harris, Okhani, Baker....would like to see more Acuff, thought we would with Maceo out.   Kelly is moving good even with that albatross around his knee.
First 4 home games are at LaRoche, with no fans.    Our guys played well at LaRoche.

Re: Game Thread - UNC Greensboro Spartans

It would be better if the Dukes could play a couple more games before Richmond
on Dec. 19.
Too much time between games.
If the Dukes win tomorrow not a bad start for the season.

Duq 81, first of all, I hope your health situation has improved and you are on the road to a full recovery !!  Secondly I was Ferry’s biggest critic and could not stand anything he did in his tenure as the head coach while at Duquesne. In my humble opinion, Dambrot best recruits are Williams and Sin as incoming freshman and Steele as a grad student. Where as Ferry’s were Mike, Lewis and Ovie.  I would say that is a wash or maybe a slight advantage to Ferry. Also, Ferry’s best two recruits came in the year after Harper took office as AD. Ferry just missed out on Ja Morant ! I think the turnaround is more the administration than the coach.

Let me explain, we all know that Duquesne’s administration was a big deterrent for the basketball program prior to the present day administration. This administration has increased the number of coaches on the staff, they increased the recruiting budget, they put into motion the renovation of the facilities and of course they paid a coach One million dollars to show they mean business. Not only that, the AD, soften the out of conference schedule considerably for Dambrot.  This would make it easier to get guys situated while achieving a nice record. Also, Dambrot has coached while the Atlantic 10 has been on a downward trend with the exception of Dayton. Having said that, the A-10 is loaded for at least the next two years.  URI, VCU, St Bona are young and talented and are only going to get better as the season progresses.St Louis and Richmond are veteran established teams built to go far in the tournament this year. Dayton and Davidson are very formidable teams. That would place us 8th in the A10 this year when we were supposed to be in the top 4. Next years team is anybody’s guess because we haven’t seen the freshman enough, but we are losing a lot. In summary, to my point, is the A10 was better until now under Ferry. The purse strings were loosened by the administration in Ferry’s last year and all of Dambrot’s years. The out of conference schedule is easier in Dambrot tenure than Ferry.

i am no way bashing Dambrot, just pointing out a few advantages he has had compared to Ferry while coaching and recruiting for the Dukes.

Re: Game Thread - UNC Greensboro Spartans

As others noted, lots more energy and hustle last night and a much better performance from the three seniors. Hughes and Weathers were far more assertive in the paint and dialed in, and TDM was at his best, nailing the long 3s and forcing the turnovers that turn into easy transition buckets. I think the overall defensive play was better though I caught part of UNCG's game against Winthrop and didn't think they seemed like a terribly good offensive team. I mean, four of their five starters accounted for just 10 points. Without those two 3-point gunners they brought off the bench, this game would have been a complete rout.

Still not a lot of production beyond the Core Four. Rotroff was a bit better in limited minutes, Bekelja settled in after passing the ball to the backcourt on his first or second possession but never took a shot (this generation's Thomas Keegan?), Harris continues to look like he's going to be a good one, I was a little disappointed not to see more of Baker, but I guess there's a price to pay for fouling out in 7 minutes in the opener.  Outside of TDM, the 3-point shooting was still pretty miserable, but the paint was open most of the night so it didn't really matter. Norman really needs to become a more consistent outside shooting threat if we're going to take the next step.

I certainly won't complain about catching Winthrop on the second half of a back-to-back. Sure would be nice to get another 2-4 games scheduled between tomorrow and Richmond. Robert Morris' game was canceled yesterday so surely they have an opening?

I missed out on Bruce Atkins, but I did catch Darrell "Rocky" White in my first two years at Duquesne. Weathers reminds me a lot of him, though is a bit more skilled and polished. But both fearless in the paint and play a lot bigger than their size.

The situation has actually slowly but continually gotten better since the period where DAP's staff didn't even have cell phones. I remember some laughing at that, but it showed how little was being put into the program. Since then each coach has gotten a bit more to work with and I think we're finally at an acceptable level, which shows on the floor.

Re: Game Thread - UNC Greensboro Spartans

Winthrop beats Little Rock by 5. Winthrop has a 6'9" 275 lb. center who shot 10 for 11 I believe.
