Offline Sadly, not only is actual game time experience & repetition in varied venues, fading from Duquesne’s daily repertoire, but with the latest cancellation – and their lack of a real home court advantage, their present capability [the gym on Forbes] to meaningfully practice at home must be ‘a drag’ on enthusiasm and maybe ‘a shell’ they need to get out of. Suggestion; maybe it would be beneficial if the AD would contract to schedule practices in 3 or 4 different locations close to the Duq campus, to allow the players to gain more comfort in varied settings. That’s the ongoing situation this team is going to face in 2020 and ‘21 and who knows, this could maybe better prepare them for diverse backdrops when shooting at the hoop. Maybe Central Catholic would be available – or Bishop Canevin or Oakland Catholic. Might the PPG Paints Arena be available for the next few weeks? Would give us big venue looks with the vast seating in the background - similar to what they'll see in Richmond, St. Louis and elsewhere. Just a thought – because the Covid situation seems to be challenging our blossoming program! Last edited by gjgsr (12/04/2020 11:45 am) Offline gigsr--Your suggestion is not a good idea especially in the light of the Covid situation. And besides I thought the team did damn well with the practice court and no home court last year. Offline Not sure I understand how practicing at several other nearby high school gyms and/or PPG arena with players and staff only would heighten covid susceptibility… They would take the same precautions taken at the Forbes Av gym. The huge difference between this year and last year is that they’re being thrown into the fire with an immediately tough string of away games [Richmond, St Louis, Dayton], whereas last year they had a string of home cupcakes at Laroche before traveling to neutral sites to play some average talent. This year the Dukes will have had only 2 games under their belt at one venue, when they face Richmond (5 games), St. Louis (6), GW (5) and Dayton (4). They have a lull of 11 days - why not scrimmage at several different settings in preparation? Offline Have they given up trying to schedule a game before Richmond? I haven’t heard any announcement that they are not still trying? Offline I think the AD has done a great job. Me personally I was shocked that he had the balls to go after Coach Dambrot after Amodio chased him to come to Duquesne. I would have never pursued Coach Dambrot. Well I am glad he did. Great Coach & hire. Only disappointment was the lack of aggressiveness in scheduling. Maybe it is a money issue? Duquesne basketball is on the rise thanks to the Prez,AD & Coach. Please don’t screw it up! Keep the egos in check. Go Dukes. Offline I think the AD has done a great job. Please don’t screw it up! Keep the egos in check. Go Dukes. I don't think it's fair to say he wasn't aggressive in scheduling. Had Pitt not chickened out we'd have a game against them this year. If Covid didn't cancel the tournament we would have had a game against Maryland. We were one of the initial teams in the Louisville tournament. I don't know how the scheduling happened there, but I would think there was at least a chance we would be playing Louisville. We were supposed to play Cincinnati in Indianapolis, but Covid struck again. Had Winthrop not returned from Covid and our coaches hadn't caught it I think there's a good chance we would have played Notre Dame this weekend. That's five power five teams we could have played if not for the craziness of 2020. I'd be disappointed too if our non-conference season is already over, but if so it's possible 100% of our non-conference opponents will be in the big dance. Offline Agree with you luckymcd as this AD has done a great job overall and as an aggressive scheduler too and I love it! Remember ND away and he did everything possible to keep Pitt on the schedule and certainly tried OOC this year. ( ps sitting here watching BYU Coastal Carolina football and we had them on our football schedule along with Air Force this year speaking of aggressive schedule). I think that you were basically saying same thing Ironduke81 Last edited by Judge Jack McVay Jr (12/05/2020 8:00 pm) Offline I think the AD has done a great job. Cincinatti is in the AAC, worse than the A10 this year!! Still would have loved to play that game though. Loyola too. I hope we are working on adding another game or two before Richmond to get more time in before conference play. I don't think Notre Dame ever wanted to play us either. Houston is loaded, and Memphis is right behind them. Offline Returning to the original topic – focus on prep for the Richmond game is all-important with 13 days remaining. No doubt the Spiders (& 5 under their belt) will be hot when the lights come on at their place. Here’s hoping Dukes can match/or better them, but it looks like a tall order…
CURRENT RECORD 9 - 14 (4-6 in the A-10)
