You think we've had it bad...

Excerpt from this piece on CBSSports.com about Fordham's new coach search...The last coach to leave FU with an above-.500 record was Tom Penders in 1986. The only coach in the past 60 years to last at least three seasons and win at least 50% of his games happens to be the winningest coach in school history, John Bach. He left his post 53 years ago...KenPom.com's rankings track back to the 1996-97 season. Fordham's highest end-of-season finish is 127th. Its average finish is 218th. The school has never made the NCAA Tournament since joining the A-10 in 1995. The program's last appearance was in 1992; it's danced just four times in its history. FU's win percentage in league play across nearly 26 seasons is a putrid .248 (100-304 record) while it's overall win percentage isn't that much better (.313), with a 239-502 mark since the Rams left the Patriot League for the A-10. The team has had two seasons above .500 since it joined and hasn't won more than 18 games in a season since 1990-91.

Re: You think we've had it bad...

"I think Jeff Neubauer is a really good coach, I really do. I played against him when he was at Eastern Kentucky. I think he had trouble keeping players here, for whatever reason, whether it's systemic, whatever... and when you lose your good players here you're not winning. so that's what's happened to him. But he's made it competitive every night."  -Dambrot on Neubauer after the win Wednesday.  I rarely am a downer, but this quote also is what Dambrot's tenure here has been like so far. I believe the program has what it takes to reach the next step though.

Re: You think we've had it bad...

Fair point, BluffHunter. We've been fortunate that the core of Weathers, Hughes and TDM are very close to each other and very loyal to Keith and have stayed together here for 3 seasons and who knows, could all return for one more go at it next year. I can't get too excited about Wednesday's win, we beat a bad team that's clearly in disarray. Even Jim Ferry won big at Rose Hill. But I was really happy to see the kids enjoying themselves and having some fun in what has been a difficult season for them. Also found myself really hoping Chad Baker sticks around. He's a fun player to watch and he also seems to really keep things light on the bench. Seems like someone who can develop into not just a consistently good player but a real team leader, which we're going to need whenever Weathers-Hughes-TDM move on.

Well lets hope our new arena will help players stay 4 years.   Our Magnificent 7, if they stick around 4 years, can win a lot of games.
