This is a strong field with many good teams; so winning this would be impressive.  Creighton is probably #2 or 3 team  in the Big East, SIU is having a strong season; Colorado has been good in recent years in the PAC 10; not sure about Colorado St..  Northeastern comes up with a good team every few years; so a lot depends on whether Marcus and/or Mike decide to take the extra year; or we need to replace them both.  I think Andre Harris can step into one of those spots nicely; but I don’t see the other spot being so easily filled.

This is a really strong field and one of those big preseason tournaments we have been belly aching about getting into for the last couple of years. Not every team in the field is going to be a blue blood but:

Creighton is currently 13-4 and ranked #15 in the nation

Colorado is a power 5 opponent, 13-5 currently and 3rd in the PAC 12.

Colorado State is 13-4 and 3rd in the Mountain West.

We would normally be in a tournament where we are the flagship team with other members of this field like Bradley and Southern Illinois, solid mid majors.

I am very happy with this announcement signifies more progression of this program to me.

If I could bet on Duquesne or the field, I'm afraid I'd have to take the field. If we could win it, that would be impressive. If we're going to win a tourney, why not start with the A-10?

Can we beat them? Sure. Will we be expected to? Not by many. Colorado has a good team this year, but certainly isn’t an annual top 15 team. Creighton tends to put together a really good team every few years, but generally is only a top 50 or so program (of course even that is far better than us). The sad fact of life is as of now we are closer to Bradley, Southern Illinois, and Northeastern.

I think this years A-10 tourney is the same way. With the way we’re playing right now I don’t think there’s a team in the conference we can’t beat (I think VCU might be the toughest if we ever play them). At the same time, I don’t think anyone except diehard fans with red and blue glasses on expects us to win the conference.
