On the eve of another A10 tourney, let's take a look back at where our season goes to die most years:

All-time conference tourney appearances: 40 (competed in the MCC in '93, did not qualify for the A10 tourney in 2006 and 2013 (Nee's last year/Ferry's first)

Dukes all-time record in the A10/Eastern 8 tourney: 20-39 (14-34 since the Eastern 8 (EAA/ECBL) became the Atlantic 10)

Trips to the finals: 3: Beat Villanova in '77, lost to Pitt in '81 and Temple in '09

Other trips to the semifinals: 2: Lost to WVU in '78 after beating UMass in the first round/quarterfinals; lost to Rutgers in '85 after beating Penn State and WVU in the first two rounds.

Most common opponent: 10 games against UMass (5-5)

Only current team we have a winning record against in the conference tourney: Rhode Island (2-1)

Current teams we've never played in the conference tourney: VCU, Davidson, George Mason

Current teams we've played in the conference tourney but never beaten: Fordham (0-1), LaSalle (0-2), Richmond (0-2)

One-and-dones in the conference tourney: 24 out of 40 appearances

Largest margin of victory: 26 (96-70 over St. Joe's in 1990 first round)

Largest margin of defeat: 26 (79-53 to UMass in 1995 quarterfinals)

Yes, that's right, outside of the run to the finals in '09, we have just two wins in the conference tourney in the last 25 years. Nee's '04 team beat a bad UMass team in the first round and Ferry's 2015 team beat last-place St. Louis in the 11-14-seed play-in round matchup. No better time than the present to turn around our miserable history in this tournament.
