Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

If he's really 6 ft. and not smaller, I'm not too worried that he will be a negative size wise. Plenty of 6 ft. guards around and, as pointed out, speed and athleticism make up for a lot and Johnson appears to have both.

Size, schmize!   What would 1" really mean in the game, but "on paper" its the difference b/w Kansas and Duquesne?   Thats hogwash!   This kid is supposed to be a floor leader already, and thats something this program needs.   We have a lot of talent, and if he can take over, or Spears, and be a floor general, the talent will show itself a lot more going forward.

I may hold my breath on this one until the NLI is signed. His recruitment is/was on fire.

What does this mean for Acuff?  I still think he can play.  Acuff at the 2 and these new guards at the 1?  Or do you think Acuff is out of the mix? I'm assuming Roessing and Bekelja move on with all this guard recruitment.  thoughts?

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

Very strong physically, and can finish with left or right hand; along with outstanding range on his 3-point shot.  I liked his passing as well, seems to find the open man with some creative passing.  Highlights don't typically show you a lot of defense, but in general, there's not much to dislike about Jackie Johnson!  Of course, like all players stepping up to the D-1 level, defense can be the most challenging.  We will need Jackie and Primo to be fast learners, because there is definitely playing time available for them.

Re: Duquesne Lands Jackie Johnson

It's April 15th.  Let's hope Jackie Johnson can do for Duquesne what another Jackie did for Brooklyn on this date in 1947.

Was thinking the exact same thing, really glad he is signed up. Looking back at the freshman spreadsheet, the best freshman guards we have had in recent memory were:

Tj
Mike Lewis
Sincere
Derrick Colter

He is probably in the neighborhood of these guys height wise, and may be more talented than all of them. Looks to be a better shooter than all. Imagine if we had DC at the point guard spot last year, this team would have been significantly better.

Again, think he could be the best of the above group. The production he had at the level he was playing at this past year has me VERY excited to get him. Would be pretty surprised if he isn’t the starting PG next year.

Seems like KD sold him on coming in and being The Guy right away, and it was probably a good strategy given who else he was talking to. This kid looks like he has the cahones to come in and be our lead guard from day 1.
