What this tells me, is that Ferry feels he has assembled the necessary talent to win in the A10. Obviously, that talent needs some seasoning, but contrast his tone this year, to last year's, which basically warned not to expect too much. The tone is definitely upbeat, but I would hesitate to say the he feels he has assembled the necessary talent to win in the A-10. He said that he is looking at this as the first year of his rebuilding program. I think he sees this team as being the first step in the process. He is laying the foundation, but it is only one full year of recruiting. It will take a few classes to get the kind of talent he is hoping to assemble. I think the product on the court will be much more competitive, with more options off the bench, and more enjoyable to watch; but there is still more work to be done. I think he's done a good job, at least on paper. He's added size, he brought in a couple guys with some experience, he brought in point guard depth, and from here it looks like all of these guys can fight for playing time. The Jones "gang" and Colter can provide some leadership. Adding Soko reminds me of when we had Mark Stevenson for a year, although Stevenson was more of a known scorer and he really wasn't surrounded with much talent at the time. If Ferry uses a nine-man rotation and Lewis is getting a redshirt, that tells me one guy will either get squeezed out or also be given a redshirt. We'll know more when the action starts. I agree with Duq81 interpretation of coach's comments. There is only one player on the roster that was not Ferry's recruit, so hopefully he has assembled the quality of talent that can win in the A10 with some seasoning. I think he has which is why I am somewhat optimistic that the Dukes will make a move up this year and surprise a lot of people. If the Dukes finish last again and only have one or two league wins like last year it will be dissapointing to me. This forum is hosted for free by Boardhost. Create your own free forum!
