With so many comparable, regional schools involved, why wouldn't DU be in on him? He released his Top 5 & the Dukes aren't on it so this is purely a survey of posters' opinions.

Maybe they did inquire and he said not interested?

Hard to believe the Dukes would not be all over ANY 6'10" player especially in the state. I doubt any kid is saying "no" to any school at this point. With A-10 schools recruiting him the Dukes need to be in the mix. Maybe the recruiting is slow with the turnover on the staff and the Covid. Still time to get in his ear.

C'mon. Let's get real! Why do we need a 2-star rated guy when we have 3-star guys two inches shorter but with four more years of college experience. Trust the coaches' collective judgments folks.

Being from "in-state" really means nothing since he is about as far away from Pittsburgh as one could get and still be in PA. I never heard his name mentioned in relation to Duquesne; and with PItt entering the mix very late, it would have probably bumped the Dukes anyway. No reason to waste resources on a very, very long shot. If he was from Western PA, I could see the connection, but the Dukes have no history of recruiting in the Pocono Mtns. of PA. We rarely even do any business in Philly or NYC; so nothing about Fermin speaks to Duquesne being involved unless there was history with Dukes coach, as was the case with Penn State and VCU, it just doesn't strike me as a good fit. HIs ship has already sailed anyway. He is down to five schools and deciding in four days; so no reason to pursue him.

We have Hima who been on the team since 2020.
Every bit as big and appears to be highly motivated.
No reason to chase Fermin unless KD is doing another head fake.

That is the most reasonable & obvious answer.
He isn't even a consensus 3-star. My bet is that he chooses the "highest" offer available to him, struggles to compete, & is in the portal after year 1 or 2. That means low-end Big 10 or ACC; Pitt or Penn State.
VCU, SBU, & to a lesser extent DU would likely serve him better. If he turns out to be an immediate stud, those programs will allow him the exposure & playing time to realize his dreams sooner than the bigger conferrence schools.. However, if he turns out to be good or merely average, these types of schools will be a much better fit for him.
Wrote the old guy....

The '22 recruiting has been very limited. I believe the reason is that KD really believes the team he has is championship quality. Moreover, there is only one graduating player in '22, Double moreover, I think we already have a better fit in Hima than Fermin. If KD can land the PF from Arizona and the local kid from Butler HS that is all he needs.
On the other hand Pitt's recruiting reeks of desperation. Capel seems like he has 100 offers on the table. That can't feel good to the new guys he just recruited this year.
Side note, thanks Phil for the Freeman article on the team. I am extremely excited about next season. I believe KD when he says that this is his best team at DU, and really think this team is going to be a beast in the A10.
