New outlook on all the Dukes transfers over the last 10 years or so

I'm reconsidering how i feel about all the guys who transfer from Duquesne.  I decided to take a look at a bunch of them and see what became of them.  I will not consider the guys who left this year because that remains to be seen,

Obvious losses for the Dukes:
TJ -  2 final 4s as the starting PG on one of the best teams in the country.  enough said
LG Gill - went to Maryland.   good for him, bad for Duquesne
Spencer Littleson - went to Toledo and had a productive career.  Dukes could have used him
Isiah Mike - Went to SMU. very good player
EW - Doing great at Oregon.  Huge loss for the Dukes

But that is really it (probably forgetting someone.)  It seems like every year the Dukes lose decent/good/very good talent but when i go back over the list only those guys seemed to have went on to bigger and better things.  the next list are guys who, at the time, I felt were big losses:

Isiah Watkins - Went to Furman and did practically nothing
Tysean Powell - Cumberland University?  never heard of it.  no stats to speak of.  now in the NBA G League
Marqywell Jackson - I liked him!  no info after he left Duquesne
Nakye Sanders - Towson U.  No stats of any note
Josh Steel - No college - playing pro in England for the Manchester Giants
Mike Lewis - Well documented that he never saw the floor again anywhere
Tydus Verhoeven - Went to Western NM.  No stats of any note
Nicholas Kratholm - Niagara, no stats of any note
Gavin Bizeau - Toledo. no stats of any note
Dylan Swingle - Bowling Green.  No stats of any note
James Ellis - CC of Beaver county.  Wish him well

Please add if you think I missed somebody of note.  All this to say - Are the Dukes really losing good players all that often?  Most never seem to develop when they leave.  And finally, are they leaving or being shown the door (recruited over) because the coaches know they don't have the goods?

I'd say Duquesne only really lost those 5 guys at the top of the post (and LG only for 1 year.)  And TJ, EW, and Isiah Mike are the only guys I feel really "hurt" the program by leaving.

Just for the record, Tydus transferred to UTEP and has done well.  Like at Duquy, not much scoring but strong rebounder and shot blocker.  Also of note, he averaged about 24 minutes a game last year

thanks.  i liked him.  I didn't do a deep dive and only saw Western New Mexico. I think that was a team he played against.   I'd call that a "loss" for the Dukes.  Especially because we can't seem to get "bigs"

Styles, thanks for the data!  Now, with it so easy to transfer for players, a whole different mindset has developed since they can and do transfer continually and for any reason thay want.  For me, TJ and EW were the biggest losses that had an impact on the team's winning record.

Re: New outlook on all the Dukes transfers over the last 10 years or so

Mike Lewis is having a fine professional career in Europe from what I can gather.
Eric Williams does get plenty of playing time at Oregon, which is saying something; but he often looks lost on the court.  In the games I've seen he spots up for his 3-point shot, but they either ignore him for a better option or skip around him.  It tells me that the coach doesn't want him being the high-volume shooter he was at Duquesne.  He is still a good rebounder, never was a good defender; perhaps he is a little better in that department; but I wouldn't call him a great success at this point.  He may still break-out since he has the free year this year; so we'll see what happens.

I would check EW's numbers after every game last season and he was consistently played well.  He started and played most of every game.  I bet he was averaging around 10 points.  I know he was invisible in the NCAA tourney game but he's a starter and a scorer on the best team in his power 5 conference.  success is arbitrary but for purposes of this discussion I'd say he is.  But, yes, he is not a star.  We'll see how this season goes. And doesn't he have 2 years left?

Re: New outlook on all the Dukes transfers over the last 10 years or so

Our most heralded recruit last year, Andre Harris, has dropped off of the radar.  Doesn't show up as going to another school in the Transfer Portal.  No idea if he is playing basketball.
Also, picking nits, TJ never made it to a Final Four; 2 Elite Eight appearances. Still quite an accomplishment.

I will happily remain standing corrected.  I'm getting old man - I remember watching those TJ tourney game losses.  My memory at the time of that post was that Ariz needed to win to go to the championship but of course you are correct - they needed to win to get to the Final Four.

I thought i saw somewhere that Andre Harris was going to Wright State but I can't find that now.

Last night's line for Chad Baker at SDSU.  14 mins 6 pts 6 rebs.  I'm hoping Easley or Ayers make us forget about Chad before Christmas

Re: New outlook on all the Dukes transfers over the last 10 years or so

That's a different Andre Harris at Wright State. On another note, TDM, Dylan Swingle and Ashton Miller all sat out their teams' season openers last night. Marcus Weathers (11 points, 7 rebounds) got the better of Kellon Taylor (2 points, 8 rebounds) as SMU rolled over McNeese. The long-awaited Weathers-Eric Williams showdown is this Friday night at 11 on Pac12 Network.

Is Swingle back on a roster?

He stepped away from the Bowling Green team about a month ago. Newspaper article suggested he was staying in school and on track to graduate.

Lamar Norman scored 23 points in 24 minutes for Western Michigan in their 76-58 victory over Hope. (Hope lost, SMH)

Amari Kelly played a little under 10 minutes against Pitt and fouled out. He had 0 pts.,1 turnover and 1 block.

Re: New outlook on all the Dukes transfers over the last 10 years or so

TDM came down to earth a bit last night with 9 points (1-5 from 3-point range) and 5 turnovers in FGCU's 78-61 loss to USC. He scored 34 on Saturday, including 9-14 from 3-PT range, in an 89-77 loss to future A10 power Loyola-Chicago.
