Offline 2:00pm EST tip on Saturday 03/05/2022 at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse, Pittsburgh, PA Offline Not relevant to today's game, but a few stats I thought interesting, not in a good way. This is conference games only, excluding LaSalle. Last edited by wharfrat58 (3/05/2022 2:46 pm) Offline Any idea what happened to Leon Ayers ?? Is he hurt ?? Last edited by ghost (3/05/2022 4:56 pm) Offline Offline Anyone ask any players if they are coming back next year? Offline Primo was channeling Norm Nixon today with the way he destroyed anyone who tried to guard him. Driving his man into the paint and either taking it all the way; or shooting the turnaround jumper in the lane. He often beat 3-4 guys on the way to the hoop. He was electrifying today! He jumps so well he can shoot over most any guard. I Have not seen freshman guard score that way for Duquesne since Norm Nixon. He is not a top point guard in this conf. Not on a conf. winning team. His dribble alone tells you he should not be handling the point. Not just this game, but all season. Norm didn't just show up for one game against a bottom team, he showed up all the time, Off season, if this coaching staff finds even an average point guard, he will start over Primo. Offline You know when we have a losing coach. Hell, just listen to this BS. No play by play recollection of the game. Just vague notions of Lebron and his players just aren't good enough. Don't expect this guy will coach up anyone He played baseball in college. He even used that baseball reference in this post-game? Not BB? Offline Just a couple of quick observations. The transition defense was horrible. LaSalle had 2 on 1 breaks over and over again. They did it on our made baskets. They did it on our misses. This is coaching. Horrible defense on LaSalle 3-point shooters. At one point they were 8 for 10. Positive note - we did play a zone periodically. Offline You know when we have a losing coach. This team blew by us in transition, and KD's slow down half court team wasn't even there. The game was over there. Offline I was watching some of the smaller conference tourneys the last few days on ESPN plus. Coaches were using multiple defenses throughout the game and ball movement. No one on one crap and over dribbling, just basic fundamentals. It was refreshing to watch and the teams played hard no matter the score. This team does NONE of that and it all falls on this joke of a coach. Who in the hell hired this guy when you had hundreds of better qualified head and assistants out there who actually know how to coach and teach. Disgusting Offline You know when we have a losing coach. Hell, just listen to this BS. No play by play recollection of the game. Just vague notions of Lebron and his players just aren't good enough. This team blew by us in transition, and KD's slow down half court team wasn't even there. The game was over there. No excuse for not getting back on defense especially in the first half. When guards penetrate or take a shot from the wing or baseline someone needs to rotate back on defense. This has been a problem all season. You’re entitled to your opinion; and I don’t disagree with some of your points; but the talent is there and someone needed to score. Primo was getting layups and short pull-up jumpers in the paint; do you think they were going to get better shots? Last edited by levon1975 (3/06/2022 9:38 am) Offline I hope that both Jackie and Primo are both back next season. They both have tremendous talent. Neither are the point guard that we need but keep in mind that as freshman there is still major growth ahead for both. The biggest problem for this team was the way it was constructed. A center better suited as a power forward, a power forward better suited as a small forward, and no true point guard. Got to wonder what the heck this staff was drinking and thinking in assembling this team last year. My hope is that this season has sobered them up. Listening to Dambroth and Harper they seem to realize that they need to get rid of the dead wood, bring in a big skilled center, a strong big power forward, an experienced transfer point guard, and shooting guard. Primo is a ball hog & plays defense only when the mood strikes him. KD is not holding him accountable in the same ways he does other players.
Primo was breathtaking on offense for 15 minutes. Truly, he was awesome. It just doesn't mean anything because he hasn't been playing winning basketball for 6 weeks.
I encourage everybody to re-watch the last 2 minutes of the game & the handshake line. Primo couldn't care less about losing for the 16th consecutive time. He was super pleased with himself for scoring a bunch of points.

Re: Game Thread - La Salle University Explorers
Speaking of Primo this is what he told Tristan Freeman
Tristan Freeman on Twitter: "Asked Primo Spears about potential decisions in offseason and how he feels about Duquesne. Says that he “loves Duquesne, the community, the city of Pittsburgh and the coaching staff”. Is focused on the A-10 Tournament but is happy with the Dukes. Not the losing but the team." / Twitter
Trib Article
Tribune-ReviewSports on Twitter: "Jack Clark scored 30 points, and La Salle shot 57.1% from 3-point range as the Explorers beat Duquesne, 85-76, in the regular-season finale, extending Duquesne’s losing streak to 16 — one short of tying the school record. / Twitter

The issue is 100% with the coach. Does he really expect that after allowing Primo to play poor, self-centered basketball for the last 6 weeks of the season with no accountability that next fall he will be able to flip a switch in Primo by saying, "Ok, that was last year. Now you are going to play the right way all the time or ELSE..."?
This is quite similar to the way TDM was coached for 2.7 seasons. Terrible, selfish shot selection leading to poor percentages & very poor defense most of the time was perfectly acceptable & the minutes never wavered.
Both guys have real talent. Primo probably has more & is size appropriate.
Does anyone think it is a coincidence that TDM has his best career shooting & assist numbers under a different coach? He was 2nd in conference scoring, 1st in total assists & assist average, first team all conference, & newcomer of the year.
Interestingly, FGCU canned their coach today after just 4 years. That seems a little crazy given that the team won 21 games including a first round conference tournament game & 8 of their last 10.
