I agree Towns
Keep playing hard don t take anyone lightly.
A lot of good playing time available for the guys let’s make best of it!
If Reece is not 100% let him rest up and even Alabama State if necessary.
I’ll be there tonight does anyone know when the students are gone for thanksgiving break?

I think we were done on Wednesday back in my day.   But that was a long time ago, not 100% sure.

Re: Game Thread - University of North Florida Ospreys

Based on KD's comments that they are down 3 big men, I'm assuming that Joe Reece will not be available tonight (along with Gunn and Barre).  So they are going to need continued good play from Rotroff, Dixon and Tre Williams (who I suspect will get some time at the 5 spot tonight).  No word on Easley; hope he's back because there will be some minutes for him tonight.

There are 3 areas of improvement that the Dukes need to shore up.  The Free Throw shooting from our big guys has been subpar; Reece, Dixon, Williams and Gunn are 8-26 from the line, 31% (Rotroff is a respectable 5-7).  Saying that, they need to figure out a way to get to the FT line more often, especially the guards. The 5 guards are shooting at an 82% clip, but only have 28 attempts in 4 games (Dae Dae has 13 of these attempts). Finally, this team needs to play better defense against the 3 point shot - in all 3 of the Dukes' wins, the opponent has made more than 10 3 pointers and shot better than 40%. That rate is not sustainable.  Lots to work on starting tonight.

Re: Game Thread - University of North Florida Ospreys

No students on campus tonight, but that's okay as their turnout so far has been outstanding. These next 4 games will be tests for who can be consistent every game in every situation. We should win the following games but I don't expect the wins to come without some roadblocks, the first being the injury of Reece.

The 2 chucklehead announcers didnt help the blurry broadcast either.

Re: Game Thread - University of North Florida Ospreys

How often do you win when the the other team shoots 58%? The 22 assists and only 6 turnovers had a lot to do with it.

Re: Game Thread - University of North Florida Ospreys

UNF had a great game, shooting 58% from the field. When you win a game against a team putting up the best performance they can its a good win. This team seemed to never panic although I sure wanted to. Brewer is just clutch for making that last shot. Dixon has the potential to be real good. The success on this season I think depends on the fringe players being content with their roles. If Easley already left that's one gone that was too selfish to realize what was best for the team. Mcgriff and Hronsky are young, and it will take some time for them to get pivotal roles but they are extremely important to our success because sometimes if we are injured or flat footed one of them could be the jolt we need. Rozier and Dixon just need to keep plugging away, their roles are already beginning to come to fruition.

Bluffhunter you are right. They were shooting the lights out. I love my Dukes always but I'm not at all impressed. Tre Williams is just a touch away from having a nice inside game. Grant can shoot. I'm skeptical.i miss the erratic boom or bust of Sincere Carry...ha

Place was like a funeral home. I sat in 109 at the end and the whole row was empty

Re: Game Thread - University of North Florida Ospreys

As Dru Joyce mentioned on the radio post game show, this team will have these kinds of games because they are still learning and growing together but they kept plugging away and never quit. Great win against a super hot shooting team tonight! Seems like lots of character on this team.

The Rotroff-Williams combo is good, and I love the effort both players put in but it's just not an elite front court. Dixon brings the explosiveness we need down low but just needs to learn the college game a bit better. Reece brings the dimension we need to be physically imposing, but I'd like to see him try to bang the bodies a little more too when he gets back, I hope his injury is not too serious. As you reminisce about 2022 MAC player of the year Carry, I miss dearly the Hughes-Weathers combo down low. I stumbled upon a stat line against Rhode Island where Weathers had 28 points and 14 rebounds and just can't imagine one of our bigs putting up a game like that. The Brewer-Grant-Clark trio has me very confident about our outside play, Clark just needs to bring a bit more control to his game. All of their passing games are fantastic and Clark can drive to the hoop and get a layup off whenever he wants.

Re: Game Thread - University of North Florida Ospreys

A great win - North Florida played their best game of the season and we still prevailed.  In past years, we would not have won that game, and probably would have lost by 15.  I do hope Easley rejoins the team, because I believe somewhere down the road we are going to need him.  Still, there is a lot of talent on this team - we haven't had a pass first point guard play like this since the days of TJ playing on the Bluff.  And, Tre Clark is the best on ball defender since... I can't remember.

Re: Game Thread - University of North Florida Ospreys

Take away North Florida's guard, Owens shooting 0-4 on three point shots, and North Flordia would have shot 50 percent on three pointers in addition to 58 per cent on two pointers and at least 90 per cent from the foul line?? Give me a break. They must have brought their lucky penny, a magic rabbit's foot, and a handful of three-leaf clovers. No one shoots like that. When I was a youngster we would say they shot out their a**.
Did the referees look at the replay after Brewer's clutch shot to determine the remaining game time? On a replay of Brewer's shot which showed the game clock in the background, I swear it showed less than 1 second as the ball went through the net. So how did North Flordia get a full second for a final play? Can anyone that was at the game shed some light on that?
Dae Dae is a shooter's shooter.

Re: Game Thread - University of North Florida Ospreys

And I think the inbounds guy stepped on the line ….  Many years ago high end Duquesne played Eastern  Michigan. They had a good player, but c’mon.  That good player was a skinny 6”8” kid. I think he’ still scoring. He turned out to be known in the NBA as the “Ice Man.”  George Gervin.  You never know.
