A little family history.  Back during the Pirates brief flirtation with glory during the Bonds/VanSlyke era, my father had a strange bit of luck.  For over two years, every time he attended a Pirates game, they lost, every time!  My Dad was a black cloud. They would lose in the most odd and interesting ways, one hit by some rookie pitcher, grand slam in the 8th after two errors let men on base. You name it. My cousin, who ran a local tavern used to sponsor bus trips to Pirate games. My Dad's streak got so bad that people would actually ask him, "Hey Paul, you're uncle's not coming is he?" 

Well, as you know I have soured on the whole program this year. I am still angry at my shabby "typical Duquesne" treatment as a season ticket holder these last few years, and I tried watching the Kentucky game, but these players are all strangers to me, and I lost interest.. I am also disgusted at the new playing field of college basketball that almost makes it impossible for a school like Duquesne to compete and build a winning program, lots of things!

So this year, I have not bought the ESPN plus package nor listened to a single game, I have just casually checked in here every so often.  Wow, 4-1, beat Montana, beat Colgate and had an incredible win last night. Currently almost ranked in the top 100 in Ken Pom!

I am so tempted to start paying attention and maybe even getting the ESPN Plus package again, but thinking back to my Dad and karma, I know that as soon as a I do that they will hit a seven game losing streak, so for the good of the team, I supported and loved for four decades, I am going to stay a casual fan, and not follow closely!  I would just mess everything up.
