Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

Phoenix, does KenPom give a prediction on the rest of the season?  I see that RealTimeRPI has the Dukes winning out in the non-conference games then going 9-9 in the A-10, winning all home games and losing all road games to finish 21-10.  I'm hoping for better than that.

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

Coach said Barre is a ways away from playing, and I was under the impression it was due to injury because he would not participate in warmups before games. In the team's post on Twitter yesterday he is featured in two pictures looking to be participating in full contact scrimmage. Maybe we will see him tonight? I have not seen him play so I am not sure how raw or acclimated he will be to the college game, if we choose to redshirt him for development I would have no problem with that either.

VBC, KenPom has the Dukes projected at 19-12; 10-8 in the conference.  But, looking at each individual game by game, KenPom currently has the Dukes favored to win in all of their remaining non-conference games and 13 conference games (only underdogs at Dayton by 9, at Richmond by 7, at St. Bonaventure by 4, at UMass by 3 and at Saint Louis by 10).

Thanks, Phoenix.  There will be no complaints from me if Ken's individual game predictions are correct resulting in a 25-6 record heading into the conference tournament.

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

No mention of Easley in Rothstein's tweet either. Usually when Dambrot mentioned having two out from injury  he would say "Two injuries and a suspension". Hopefully he is out of the doghouse, he just needs a to hit a couple threes and a transition dunk or two and he'll have his confidence back although I'm not fully convinced he'll stop bricking pull-up jumpers.

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

There are three key players we have to contain in my opinion after looking at some stats.

#13 Ajay Mitchell, their point guard, leads the team in ppg(15.2) and apg(6.2). He's 6'5 so it will be a tough matchup for the guards. Nothing Tre Clark can't handle.

#2 Andre Kelly averages a double-double(10.8 and 10) and will be a force down low at 6'9

#5 Miles Norris is another forward, averaging 12 pts and 7.4 rebounds a game. 6'10.

This will be a real challenge down low as we are going to have to deal with experienced and tall bigs. Both Kelly and Norris are seniors.

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

I was checking out the Gaucho's forum and they mention Josh Pierre-Louis as the defensive specialist that will try to shut Grant down so keep an eye out for that even though Mitchell has the impressive stat of 2.4 steals per game as well. There is also an extremely comprehensive preview of the game from user "GauchoDan" that ranges from arena information to in-depth statistics with national rankings.

Check it out:

No problem! I enjoy doing my own research and share anything I find here! There are a couple highlight videos of UCSB's games this season so far online too.

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

Just a gut feeling, but I think Clark is going to have a good one tonight. Get em Dukes!

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

Ok.   Good half, not great, but good.  Clark needs to stop the early fouls.

Radio broadcast still a mess online.
Who is producing this game for the espn feed?   Switching views while the ball is being shot is not good.

Work the ball low, i think their bigs will hack themselves out of the game.  Cherish the ball, no turnovers.

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

Let's have a good 2nd half. No repeat of Colgate.

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

Seems like Dixon was okay.  He was in late game huddles.
Cannot lose him!

Good win!!!    Equalled win total of last year, and its still November!  😁

Another fine team effort and another great game by Dae Dae Grant.

Had his worst game and still win by 11. Good sign

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

Grant is a guy to guy that they have not had in an awful long time. I'm thinking the transfer from Notre Dame. He plays defense also.

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

Dixon continues to impress. He is getting better each game. Reece better get better quickly as Dixon may just take away starting role at this pace. Actually it is great to have Reece, Dixon, Rotroff and Williams in the 4/5 rotation. Honestly can't remember when we had such depth at those positions.

Go Dukes

Re: Game Thread - University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos

I know it's sort of blasphemy to even say this, but I swear that Dae Dae looked like Steph Curry on some of his threes tonight.  Also, the play where he drove and made that absurd pass to Brewer who drained the three was ::Chef's Kiss::

He only played around 16 minutes and still had the second best +/- to Grant

That Pierre-Louis could jump out of his shoes. Great work from the guys competing against some former Power 5 players.

I was just about to comment on his performance.  That kid was great.
