We have struggled against good defensive teams, and VCU definitely is. They have struggled offensively, but seem to have gotten that turned around the last few games. One other thing that jumps out to me is that they have struggled away from home. They lost both true road games by double digits and split two neutral site games. Hopefully we can pack the house tonight and make it a tough place to play. I hope I'm wrong, but I say the wrong team is favored and the under is easy money. VCU 68 Dukes 63. Getting a terrible whistle again as well. Played a large chunk of that half without Grant and Clark as well with two fouls each. They might not have gotten to double digits if it weren’t for all those free throws. We get homered at our own home constantly!! Yeah that and poor decisions and sloppy play in the last two minutes of the first half to let them cut it to 15, WOW! Coach Dambrot, go take your wife out to DINNER! Best defense so far for me. Especially first half. Really stifling. Really strong most of the game. We play like that and we win at least 10 more conference games. Barre looking more comfortable when on the court. VCU brought a lot of fans that sat around me and pretty much they were "in shock" most of the game. That was great too. LOL. Andy Barba recently got surgery on his hand and is done for the season. Like I said, I’m happy to be wrong in my prediction. I’m not sure if I underestimated the Dukes (old habits die hard even if the team is literally almost all new) or overestimated VCU; probably a little of both.

The last 4-5 minutes was terrible with the turnover gang out there. Still up 15 but cant be that careless, ever.
Better figure out how to handle their extended pressure, not just bigs handing it off 25 ft from the basket. Grant and Clark cant get fouls early in the 2nd half. They are crucial to success.

At times this team looks lost, and then a minute later look like a top 25 team.

But minor quibbles. Way to not fold when VCU got it down to seven.

I have to agree about the officiating. It’s been terrible all season long. I’d say it’s probably been equally bad in the long run; it’s helped us as much as it’s hurt us. No doubt it’s been terrible though. The number of times I’ve seen guys get called for stuff and literally have no idea what they did is incredible. You can usually tell when a guy is just faking to try and get a call and when they seriously know they didn’t do what the refs think they did.
Seeing that they beat Pitt makes me miss the City Game that much more. Go Dukes! Keep it up. How you finish is all that will matter in this A-10.
