New Orleans

Up next New Orleans, or as my friends in Pittsburgh say "Nor_leans".  When do the "Stillers" play Neng_land?

Re: New Orleans

What!? There is life after the City Game!?

Thankfully! I hope this is a big win!

New Orleans is an Independent school in Divison I. They are led in scoring by 6-6 Senior F Lovell Cook.

They play a lot of their bench, dont have much size.

Re: New Orleans

“I think we’re going to get there,† Johnson said. “The way coach Ferry has us playing, both offensive and defensively ... and being here the last three years, I know that we can beat teams that we couldn’t have previously."

That's a mouthful right there.

Cool, so this means we will probably play them in the Big Easy next year!  Yay, chance to head over to Nawlins!

It should be noted that the writer didn't do his homework on the transfers of TJ and Talley.  After reading this article one would likely believe that they both left after Everhart was fired; we all know that is untrue, they were gone long before Ron was fired; in fact they spoke of the desire to transfer throughout the season.  The well documented on-court shouting matches between TJ and Ron made it clear that TJ was fed up with the lack of direction from the bench.  By the time Ron's fate was sealed it was too late for these guys to pull and about-face and return, that would make their unhappiness with Ron obvious.  I don't think either one of the guys wanted to openly discuss their reasons for leaving; but the lack of fundamentals, lack of accountability for on court and practice behavior, and unorthodox  strategies made it pretty obvious that things were not going to work here.  The players in the program didn't get any better.
One thing you can say about the current coaching staff is that to a man every player on this team has shown improvement.  They are learning the correct way to play the game; resulting in a more fundamentally sound team; hence the comment from Sean about the teams ability to win games it would have lost last season.  Players will be more likely to buy into a coach and a program when they see how players improve under this staff.

Actually, every team we have the rest of the way in non conference is underachieving big time. I could see the Dukes winning any of them, but I could see us losing them too. The only team playing better than I expected is Western Michigan.

I predicted 3-3 in this stretch preseason. I could easily see them going 4-2. Of course, I could see them going 2-4 as well.

Tejas Duke, just making sure that you know the Dukes play in Lafayette, LA vs. Louisiana in 2 weeks on Saturday December 22 (if the world doesn't end).  Thus, you may not have to wait until next year to see the Dukes.  I have heard, not verified, that this is not a home and home series with New Orleans, just a buy game for the Dukes, so next year might not be an option.

Re: New Orleans

I wonder if we will see a Dukes game in Texas next year since Ferry has a history of recruiting down there. I could see us play North Texas, Houston, Rice, or someone like that. Would be a decent home and home actually.

Oh I am so aware of that fact.  Sadly the wife's sister is visiting and she really wants to go to San Antonio that weekend, so that is that.  Interestingly enough the Steelers are also playing the Cowboys that weekend in Dallas as well.

Jeralta, I don't believe that the player pages are ever "cleared".  They are archived.  You can go back in the archives, pull up a roster from a previous season and pull up the player's page for that season.  Good stuff to help refresh my memory.

Re: New Orleans

Dukes were on the Pitt side of things tonight.  Marhold looked good due to not being outsized.  Jerry Jones needs to defend the three better, although he is trying to collapse in to rebound.  Team as a whole looked good shooting, as opposed to Pitt's bigger and faster defense.  This team will be much better next year.  Soko was a beast in Greentree, and hopefully Watkins is as good as advertised.  I think this coaching staff is a great improvement over last years staff.  The rebounding, foul shooting, play set up is much better.  If this staff can recruit, you will definitely see an improvement (and this is from a big RE supporter).  The pep band is terrific, the cheerleaders are pretty good, and the dance team is to die for.  The fan support is another story.  At the City Game there was a decent turnout of fan support, tonight nothing.  The old foggies in the blue seats do what they can, but the student support absolutely sucks!  Make any excuse you want to, it's disgraceful.  Small high school teams do better.  I am ashamed of the fan support from the students.  Sorry, just had to vent.  Also, we miss the Smallmans/Pizza Hut giveaways.  Never got the Pizza Hut, but my son racked up a few Smallmans.  We still buy'em, but they are so much better when they are delivered free by a cheerleader.  Maybe it's just me.

Re: New Orleans

Prince" Pilsener" the correct spelling. Agree pep band & Director outstanding. They reflect Duquesne outstanding music school.Cheerleaders & Dance team very good.Fan & student support dismal.20 students sitting in "Amodioville"progress but not acceptable especially on a sat night right before finals.Without a doubt Duquesne is @ the buttom in the A-10 regarding students. Can Dr. D tap into the schools business school or perhaps a group of alumni address this problem? Trust me "win they will come" is not the answer its an excuse.

Re: New Orleans

The DU students are the worst by far.  I honestly do not understand why Duquesne students have no school spirit.  It is totally different from when I was at DU.  I don't think it is all about winning either, but I think winning would draw some more students.  I look at other schools who do not have great programs but at least their students show up to support the team.  Maybe the Administration should require the students to earn "school sprit credits" to graduate (this is said in jest).  I have quit trying to figure it out.
