RIP STAN SAVRAN

What a great goy he was,so knowlegeable. Brian Colleary was on his show and bragging about Duquesne hosting
hosting the NCAA tournament and how helpful it would be for Duquesne.I called in on the TV call in show and asked him about Duquesne actuallly playing in the tournament and how important it would be for the Dukes to be playing
in the tournament. He had some weak response to that.Thank you Stan for all you did for Pittsburgh.

Re: RIP STAN SAVRAN

Many don’t know that Stan partnered with Ray Goss on the Dukes radio call back in the mid-seventies. 😞 RIP, Stan; loved the show.

Re: RIP STAN SAVRAN

Unfortunately for us old timers, this forum has turned into an obituary page. Time is also running out on us to get to the tournament in our lifetime. On paper it looks like this is the year. I temper my feelings about these early prognostications, because all you have to do is look at North Carolina last year as they were everyone’s preseason numero uno and did not even make the tournament. It is so hard now a days to predict the outcome of upcoming seasons because of all the new faces each year. Do the players now how to play with each other, do they get along, do they know the strengths and weaknesses of their teammates and can the coach mesh and coach all these new guys ?

Re: RIP STAN SAVRAN

Stan was my all-time favorite sports announcer in the 'Burgh and that's saying a lot since we had so many great ones and still do. Had the opportunity once to sit in the bleachers at his show when that was done at the north side studio just after Stan came back from heart surgery some years back. Stan was very affable to all, and his humanity shown through clearly. No one more knowledgeable about all sports. Truly a great loss for all of us. RIP Stan.

Re: RIP STAN SAVRAN

To me, Stan was Pittsburgh sports. Stan paired with Guy Junker was primo. And you are correct Wildwood. Time IS running out for some of us.
