St. Francis

We have owned this team for a Century. If we lose this game, it would be beyond embarrassing.

Re: St. Francis

St. Francis is 2-7 but their game against the Dukes will be only their 3rd home game. They've played 3 A-10 teams so far, all on the road, & lost by the following scores:
Fordham 87-67
Dayton 70-56
George Mason 58-46

Hard to imagine these Dukes going into Dayton or George Mason & losing by less than 20. Might have our hands full with the Red Flash this week.

Re: St. Francis

I'm pretty much expecting a loss and had planned on attending but the rides home from the Palumbo are painful enough. Gonna sit this one out.

Re: St. Francis

I will be in attendance since I live in Altoona and the drive is not far.  First of all, if we lose this game, I will probably die due to embarassment.  Secondly, I can't imagine how that could happen as SFU is a low level NEC team.  They came and spoke at my school this year so the only solice I could take from the loss would be that the team is really nice and ran a nice assembly for the students I teach.

Re: St. Francis

Stay overnight in Seven Springs and make a good time of this game.  If Duquesne wins, celebrate, if they lose, wash it away.

Simms, I would listen to Bilgy. He's pre-med.

Re: St. Francis

No line on this game.  Pomeroy has this as a 67% of a Dukes win - 71 to 66.

Anyone thinking of attending the game?

To the Folks on this board who know more folks than I do in the media:
Question -  The talk on this board this week has been unbelievable.  I don't know how many different people there are but I do know we love DU Basketball.   A lot ofus also give money.  Can someone print and send the thread with many, many pages to the writers for the PG and Trib??  I can tell you one thing that bothers DU extremely...:  Bad Press!  Whether it was the article on how they treated an adjunct professor or the protests on not letting folks form a union it was not pleasant.  They loved the article on folks giving more money to the Athletic department. If someone here knows the writers and can let them know that we aren't a small minority and what we are upset over -with specifics about the program actually doing worse as the games go on -  I do believe that it would help - not hurt our program!  Thoughts - El Duque???  Others

Re: St. Francis

I think this could turn both good and bad.  As upset as I am about Ron's firing, I don't see how it would benefit Ferry to badmouth the program and call for Greg's head.  It just doesn't make sense.  The press already ripped the university for the decision to fire Everhart.  What more could our threads add to the discussion?

Re: St. Francis

Ferry reads the board and so do reporters and columnists who write for both papers. But unlike fly-by-night bloggers or posters like us, they have the responsibility to research their work, check facts, and report on what is news to the readers of their papers. Right now they see some bare-knuckle discussions between two sides of the Amodio issue, but nothing that counts for news.

I would not want Ferry to get involved in the Amodio discussion. Amodio is well-protected by a tight little circle that includes the person who sits on DU's board of directors who employs Greg's wife. You know how strong that syndicate is when long-time boosters and season ticket holders are walking away from the program and yet Amodio is in no worse position than he was when he scapegoated Everhart. And that's a fact Jack.

Plus, as I said in an earlier post, Amodio has friends (not named Steve) who show up on this board every time there's a little gnashing of teeth. This time, instead of direct engagement, the approach is reverse psychology, campfires and marshmallows, which is OK because none of us needs to re-live the original war.

So, long story longer, when something turns into news, one of the journalists will report on it. Meanwhile, keep the conversation going. Amodio's in a concrete bunker, but nothing lasts forever.

Re: St. Francis

This is not meant to sound critical at all, but how do you know that the coach, AD, and others read this?  I was told by a person in the AD department (and I know, they can tell us what they want) that the AD people don't read this.

Re: St. Francis

FAM I've seen enough stuff in newspapers to know the board is being read. I'm talking about direct quotes. It wouldn't surprise me if the AD himself doesn't read the board because he is clearly out of touch with the majority of the fan base.

Re: St. Francis

This is just my personal opinion and not based in any fact, but I believe they do read the board.  It is only human nature to read what is written about you.   Many pro coach and athletes claim they don't read listen to talk shows or read print media, but say something bad about them and they defend themselves.

I know if I were in a position like this, I would read what people were saying.  Also, the ratio of guests viewing the board to individuals signed in and commenting is always like 3 or 4 to one.   Right now as I was typing this, there were 15 guests reading the boards.

That may be correct in terms of wins and losses, but I can tell you that regardless of the talent level of the teams, StF has always played the Dukes tough at their place.  The last time the Dukes played at StF, under RE, the game was decided by a Kieron Achara three point shot at the buzzer.  It rescued the Dukes from a tough loss.  My point is that we should all be prepared for another tight game; and don't be fooled by the fact that we have beaten more times than not. The Dukes will need to be at their best to win this one.

I don't agree, why give the media more reasons to take shots at the Dukes.  This team is still a " work in progress" for a number of reasons including NCAA nonsense, injuries to key players, and the fact that we are trying to blend the talents of 8 new players.  I know that we all want to see results, but anyone who has seen this team play must know that they are far from a smooth functioning unit at this time.  These guys are still learning what it takes to compete and win at this level.  There is no shortcut to success, each player has things they can do to improve the team, and as these things are corrected, the team will improve based upon the improvement of the parts.

Re: St. Francis

Levon, until this team proves otherwise, I would expect every game to be a dog fight and difficult for us to win. We've lost two home games this season that IMHO we should have won. That said, today's a new day. Start with a win tonight, by any size margin, and go from here.

With all due respect ED, any proof to back up that assertion?  Especially that the coach bothers with our little community?
