Offline Prep Band was great last night. They played a lot last night. Having a nice size prep band makes it feel like a Big Time Collage game. Good move by DU this year. Offline I spoke with Bruce Lauffer, pep band director, who told me that he is directed as to when and how long to play through the head set that he wears. Get the feeling that he would like the band to play a bit more but that is not up to him. Think Bruce is doing a nice job with all. Offline I agree the expanded Pep Band is a great addition. The halftime sequence beginning with the theme from the Monty Python show was great to hear, and very well done! Props to the director and the players in the band! Offline This is great news. I’m happy they are back. Offline I would like to see more prep band music in the second half instead of the very loud canned music that comes on and smothers the fans cheering when we are closing in on our opponent. I hope the administration can get the idea that we come to see basketball, not to listen to really bad canned music. I’m afraid you are in the minority on this one but I do feel there is room for both. The crowd really enjoys seeing people dancing in the stands, the young people especially. The cameraman does a great job finding the dancers and the dancers love performing on the screen. I love watching the kids on the big screen dancing and the crowd eats it up. They can’t dance like that to the pep band. I love that the pep band is back but you can’t get rid of the canned music. Offline Last night, the Ravens have a band, and it was kind of cool to hear during a NFL game. It's so loud it just might just be making all of us lose our hearing. They won't get rid of the canned music, but in the last game as we closed in on Princeton in the second half and their coach called a time out, and our crowd, (all over the entire area) starts into "Let's go Duquesne, that canned music comes on and drowns out our fans cheering? It's like they want the area to be a neutral site? Man, let the fans cheer, it's a college basketball game, not a bar on a friday night on the Southside. Pre-game fine. halftime, fine, but quit drowning out our fans at the moments we are turning things our way. Why do you think Rozier, Clark, or Dae Dae turns to the crowd at those times and waves their hands to hear the cheer, not canned music. Keep the canned music, but don't drown out our fans, please.

On the other end of the spectrum, Pitt's band was so loud and obnoxious after every play, it was enough to turn that game off.
I think a mix of band and canned music(turn down the volume a bit) is fine for a bball game. Band cant play every break in action, and all loud canned music(esp todays hip-hop) is bad for the ears.
What I really liked were the scarves I guess they handed out the other night(to students?), maybe do that for all fans, and play Renegade every game, fans twirl the scarves like Terrible Towels. Get something unique going on, a DU twist to the Steelers thing. That song gets yinzers fired up.
