Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

Tougher day for Jakub vs. Germany.  He got into foul trouble, only played 11 minutes and had 2 points and 6 rebounds.  Missed both of his three point shots.  Next game up for the Czech team is scheduled for Monday at 9:30am EDT vs. Italy.

Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

Jakub led his team with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals in a loss vs Italy. A strong showing in the tournamen; the Dukes are lucky to have this young man in the program.

Jakob had a massive game in the Round of 16 win over Serbia. 20 points; 11 rebounds. Kid is going to be an all league player before he is done at DU.

Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

Awesome! If I am reading the schedule correctly it seems Czechia plays tomorrow at 9:30 AM EST? It looks like games are posted on youtube after the fact, are they streamed live? If so I have some plans for tomorrow morning.

Hopefully I am right about the 9:30 AM start time tomorrow. I am assuming the website put all times in my local time zone. Thanks for the link!

Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

Czechia down 36-29 at half. Sloppy basketball. Necas is 2/6 from the field for 6 points. He hit a three and got fouled on a basket he made at the hoop and made is free throw. 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

Also, I am not a fan of this announcer at all but thankful there is English commentary nonetheless. Although I agree the guy could be better I guess somebody named Alegria was obnoxiously complaining in the live chat about the announcing and during play he goes, "It seems like this person Alegria really has an issue with my announcing... isn't alegria supposed to mean happy?" It was pretty funny.

Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

End of 3. Belgium scores at the buzzer to take the lead back 57-56. Necas scored 11 that quarter to put his total up to 17, tied with Belgium's Temmerman for top scorer. Highly recommend tuning in for the last quarter if you can! 12 total lead changes!

Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

The Czechs pretty much unraveled in the fourth quarter to lose 78-68. Necas finished with 20/6/4. He was 7/15 from the field and 5/10 from deep. It sure was nice to have some basketball to watch during a Thursday morning in July! Belgium tried to slam dunk when players were walking with 2 seconds left up 10 and Necas stuffed him. Had some things to say as well. Necas and the Belgian coach had some words and the exchange ended in an embrace. Seemed like Necas was saying I'm going to play the game if there;s time on the clock and my team won't be disrespected. The Belgian coach seems apologetic and understanding. I am a big Jakub Necas fan.

Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

Jakub's teammates, unfortunately, weren't near his level.

Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

Of course I will take any positive away from something happening for the Dukes in July.  So  this Necas stuff is all good.  But can someone enlighten me about the talent level of this competition.  It’s U20 right?  So he’s playing with high school types correct?  And are they at the level of our High School teams?  Would, say, Pine Richland beat this team Necas is playing on?

No, a group of 18 year olds from a suburban school district outside of Pittsburgh would not beat the U20 national team of Czechia…

Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

The players on these national teams are mostly European pro players or considered pro prospects in the under 20 age group  It is an Olympic year, so there may be some pro players who skipped this event to play in the Olympics, but this is more like mid to upper level college talent for the most part in this event in my opinion.

Re: FIBA U20 European Championship

Jakub Necas today for Czechia in the win over Poland in the FIBA U20 tournament

24 points
11 boards
4 assists
8-15 FG
4-9 3P
4-4 FT

The forward out of Duquesne has been outstanding this tournament and will look to have a big season for Dru Joyce and the Dukes. NBA upside there

Watching South Sudan on Fox sports kicking the crap out of the NBA all star team in London. Out of respect I have for this board I will bite my tongue in regard to your Pine Richland comment. If basketball started a golf typeRyder  cup tournament the Euros would own the US

This team is going to be special and Jacob is going to be a big part of it.
