Offline No points so far for Mason - too slow to get off his shot. Played tight and he gives us nothing.. Soko is fine unless there is someone as good as him and he backs off. At least we were competitive which I said would happen because they run and so do we. Again, we just aren't very good -heck, we are below average. I do believe Colter is getting better. Offline Lovely Saturday afternoon in January for college hoops. Full packed 7,000 or so seat arena with loud, loyal, spirited fans. Offline Truth is that this was a good game until about the 3/4 point when VCU pulled away with superior depth and talent. They have three 1,000 point scorers, have guys who have played in Final 4 games, and one of the best young coaches in the game. Offline I would prefer no one write about what a great effort it was for a half. If you have a team that plays only 20 good minutes of basketball, you have a pretty lousy team. That's what we have, a lousy team that probably won't win more than one game the ret of the season. Offline I would prefer no one write about what a great effort it was for a half. Re: VCU
My take-away is that Ferry needs to do a better job developing Watkins and Lewis so that they can give us a couple minutes every night. Soko and McKoy are going to wear down before the year is over.
Mason had his worst game of the year, but who in our backcourt played well? Colter? He was 3-10, turned the ball over several times because he couldn't get us past midcourt in 10 seconds, and hurt us on a couple breakaways when we had numbers and he wouldn't share the ball and had his shot blocked. White? He was 4-10 and had several shots blocked. Jeremiah Jones? I feel like every time he touched the ball it ended up in a T/O. Ridenour is the only guard who gave us quality minutes.
Soko was 0-5 from the floor, as was Jerry Jones.
The only other guy who had a good game, again, was McKoy. I really think he has been our MVP this season.
I hope Ferry is recruiting an upgrade at the point (after watching this game, even Colter's most ardent admirers have to admit he is overmatched), and a shooter, and that we one day get Robinson qualified. Maybe after he graduates.
Re: VCU
Take a look at VCU. They have the ability that we need in all facets of the game. Our program is nowhere near mediocre and might be slipping even further into the abyss after this season. No joy in Mudville.

I said VCU wore us down with suprior depth and talent. Truth is, neither team played well in the first half. We played decent defense but didn't shoot well to capitalize on it.
Re: VCU
El Duque good summary. So much for Soko being an all league player. The last three league games he has been 7-30 from the field, 13 turnovers, and has a total of 9 rebound. How many point blank lay ups and dunks did his miss today? Personally I would have given Watkins some of Soko's minutes today, but I'm not the guy being paid $4 million to coach this team. Maybe today was too fast paced for Watkins & Lewis, but we are going to need them next year when we play VCU.
This teams needs help at all positions. Ferry has three scholarships for next year. I do not think our guards are good enough to compete at the A10 level. Ridenour has potential to compete and be an impact player in the A10, but the others at this point based on the way they are playing would only get spot minutes, if any, on other league teams. I hope these guys can turn it around and prove me wrong, but I have seen enough inconsistency to hit wide open shots, missed layups and poor defense to think they can. To me Ferry needs to recruit at least two quality big guards, and the best mobile PF / C he can get. •Thread Starter
