At this point 4 guys that should definitely start are Dinkins, Dixon, DeMichael, Matus and someone else at power forward until Necas gets his game together.  I do agree with Iron Duke that Necas can at least play D and rebound, until his offense comes around, and he is not a gunner on offense.  I would play Jake at the 2 guard and Matus at sf.  DO NOT start Dinkins and Rozier - just too small and Rozier has cost us defensively.  Again, Rozier should only be getting 10-15 minutes a game, why does he play so much????  Great kid, but how many times must I say he is not an A-10 quality starting PG!!!!  There is a reason that he had very limited scholie offers and none from any other A-10 school.  The A-10 PGs will chew him up, just a fact.

ODU is not good. Neither is Hampton. Concerning that those games were so tough for the Dukes. At least they were able to close it out against ODU without any drama at the end. Positive sign.  Matus played a lot yesterday, at least 20 minutes.  Not sure how you are getting 3 minutes unless I’m misunderstanding. 

Necas is not one of the best 3 point shooters on this team. His career percentage is under 33% and he’s been terrible this year.  I think he needs to be inside presence and stop shooting 3s.  Perhaps he can improve and become one of the best on the team but for now, he’s hurting the team on the perimeter. I like Jakob and have high hopes for him but I do not understand the love affair with him on this board.  I know I got flack for minimizing his accomplishments over the summer but I stand by them.  That was an under 19 year old European tourney he dominated.  Those teams were not the quality of player or opponent he will face in the A-10.  But of course it’s a great sign that he played well.  He’s still learning and is young.  I love his defense and with his size he should be getting rebounds and facilitating offense.  Maybe then his shot will come around.
Matus, on the other hand, is a year further along and his shot is clearly improving. Right now I’d rather see Matus chucking 3s than Necas.

Hello previous post. SDST game Matus 2 minutes. Yes I was wrong 2 instead of 3. Second point it’s about matchups. A 4 or 5 can’t guard Necas  on the perimeter. Dinkins is not the best 3 point shooter. He is a slasher. Finally, why did the new Kentucky coach pursue Necas if he was playing against garbage in Europe. I’m sorry but watching these last 6 games was pure undisciplined AAU basketball.

Matus earned playing time so I believe that is why he got it. Over 20 against ODU. Agreed that Necas is a tough match up on the perimeter but where is this belief that he is some great 3 point shooter coming from? He’s 18 for 56 in his career for 32%.
To put that in perspective, Matus is 22 of 67 for 33%. Dinkins has much more volume and a better percentage at 36%. I never said he was playing against garbage in Europe - just kids, who play a different style of basketball. I watched those games. There were a couple D1 athletes out there but for the most part they looked like high level high school basketball games. Encouraged that Necas did what he did.  If Kentucky was seriously pursuing Necas I’m sure they would have gotten him. And finally, Dinkins has made almost twice as many 3s this season than anyone else and the only player with a higher 3point % is Matus.

Agrees on all points. I would at least like to see what Dixon and Chabi look like together out there or Dixon and Wilborn (is he hurt? Why didn’t he play?). Not sure it would work but with Matus at SF and those 2 guys that’s a big physical frontcourt that can block shots and body up people.

I'd like Barre and Dixon in at the same time here or there, but we likely will not is because they are both very good centers and you don't want to risk foul trouble early in a game on both. But late in a game, yea, heck try it. It might be that shut down our opponent late game comeback from wild shooting that we have been lacking. Instead, what I'd like to see, is Dixon with Eli , and / or Barre with Necas. Any mix of them there gives a very big presences in the paint. One more thought, you get those guys down low, and Hronsky or Corbett at the 3 and Jake/ Edwards / Dinkins/ Crawford (and Rozier with 10 minutes a game) at the guards, then  you likely have one of the tallest  team on the court in the A-10. That  can give us an edge on both rebound stats, and  increase our ability to contest shots. Coach can  play most of these kids 20 minutes each and keep up a faster pace of play.

Dayton is playing in the Maui Invitational and lost to #12 UNC 92-90, #5 Iowa State 89-84, and tonight at midnight play in a 7th place game much different than ours, vs. #2 UConn. Big games for the A10.
