Keep in mind that the Penguins have a home game tonight against the Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers.

Duquesne faced Saint Peter's December 8th, 2023 at the Cooper Fieldhouse and the Dukes won 68-59. Last year the game had added magnitude due to the fact that the Drame's were members of the Saint Peter's Elite Eight team. The Peacocks' leading scorer is senior guard Marcus Randolph, averaging 15.5 points per game. Armani Zeigler averages 13.3 PPG. Both guards are in the 6'4-6'5 range and played in the matchup last year. Stephon Roberts leads the team in rebounding; the 6'10, 230 pound big man pulls down 9 a game. This is another team with continuity, the 5 players receiving the most playing time are all returners from last year.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Peter's Peacocks

Thanks BluffHunter.  I look at these next three home games as must wins for Coach Dru.  There is no excuse to not win these games. These are HOME games. The Dukes have a bigger payroll and better talent regardless of what the KenPom ratings say, The Dukes need to come out focus and determined with confidence in themselves and teammates.  The coaching staff has had the time to work on the issues we saw in the Cayman Tourney. Time for Dru and staff to get it together and for everyone to earn their pay, no excuses.  Go Dukes!

Re: Game Thread - Saint Peter's Peacocks

The Peacocks hung close with Seton Hall & #24 Rutgers. CLK I agree these next 3 games are crucial for the Dukes. If the Dukes go down 6-8 late in the second half I would hope the Coach Dru traps or presses. He has had a week to fine tune both offense & defense. This is going to be a challenge tonight. Go Dukes

It's hard to believe that last years players are bench players, and we start every game with 3 transfers and an under-size  back up point guard for 35 minutes a game.  What we were expecting, and what is happening right now with this lineup, no one would have expected.  The results so far speak for themselves. I'm hoping to see some realistic line-up tonight. Worse start in Duquesne history.

Thanks, I forgot to put the losses next to the kenpom rankings like I have been. Updated! They did lose to Seton hall by 4 but the Pirates are not a good team. Fordham beat them. Along with Monmouth, Hofstra, and Vanderbilt.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Peter's Peacocks

Shocked to see Duquesne favored.  I would have St. Peter's favored by -6.5 in this one.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Peter's Peacocks

Some good points brought up here: https://x.com/imjackonthecall/status/1863990511532728412?s=46

Saint Peter’s is 16th in the nation in 3 point percentage… shooting 40%. We better be ready to defend because we have had horrible 3 pt D.

They have won 3 straight, and the Fairleigh Dickinson win came from a layup at the buzzer to take the lead.

Duquesne forces 14 turnovers a game, 4th in the A10.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Peter's Peacocks

I would kind of be pleasantly surprised if we win tonight.   Unless Corbett and Edwards rebooted themselves over this short break, we will struggle with any team, and St Peters seems decent to me.
Hopefully Wilborn is back.

Oh your right Seton Hall beat VCU. My bad VCU Also stinks. Rutgers #25. With your logic ND football stinks because the lost to N. Illinois

If I had to guess I’d say Dru promised these portal transfers they would start (at least for some arbitrary amount of games) and that is why we continue to see them at opening tip. Hard to believe Dru thinks they are the guys playing best right now.  And you can’t tell me it doesn’t matter who starts and all that matters is playing time when I’ve heard ex players say time and time again and most recently BB Flenory on a podcast say that it absolutely matters to the players and the team who is in the starting 5.  I think that is why we see Kareem out there too. He is a leader in practice and vocally so Dru wants the team to see him start and play.  For the record I think that possibly guaranteeing playing time to transfers and starting Kareem are bad decisions - I just think that might be what is happening.

Lastly, I think I’m fair when it comes to Kareem and you know I’m the biggest proponent of reducing his playing time BUT I will say he is the best ball handler on the team and the guy I trust most to get it up the court for n pressure situations.  If sure that plays into why he is getting so much PT too

Good teams don't have losses to 1-8 Monmouth by 12 points. Actually the only team with a loss to Monmouth is Seton Hall. Stephen F Austin, Northern Illinois, Youngstown State, and even Presbyterian have all beaten Monmouth.

Yes, Rutgers was ranked in the AP poll 3 weeks ago. Since then they lost to Kennesaw State and have fallen to #70 on KenPom. St. Peters also lost to Rutgers by 10, so it's not like it was close although to your point St. Peters had the lead with over 4 minutes left.

As for Notre Dame football, of course they stink... but that's because I say so;)

The three game stretch ahead will tell us if this Duquesne team is a mid-major or low-major basketball team.

Good points, but at this stage of the season I would expect players that have stepped up in recent games get rewarded. Jake should start. Hronsky is playing some strong D and seems to be our best 3 pt shooter so far.  On the other hand Edwards and Rozier have been awful from 3 pt range, and only Jake and Hronsky seem to hit FT's. And Dinkins needs to get more time at point. He can handle the offense and is a consistent scorer. I'd be happy to at least see some of this tonight.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Peter's Peacocks

I really hope that Dru did Not practice anyone they would start.  We don't know if that took place...that should never be said by a coach...all starting positions must be earned.

Ouch!  That certainly puts a negative spin on things. Hopefully it isn’t long-term.  That would be a huge loss.

Corbett and Edwards don't need to be seeing the floor anytime soon. Good lord.

Horrible ending to half. I now realize this team is not well coached at all. Brutal to watch

I just cant anymore with Dixon, Edwards, Benz & Cannon.   Necas can pull his head out his butt at any time, might help.

Necas has been the biggest disappointment, Dixon and the whole transfer class a close second.

Barre gets clobbered underneath, no call, and Dru stands there like a statue and says nothing? Really? Wake up dude and have your teams back.

Barre, DiMichele, and maybe Hronsky. The only players worth a darn on this lousy team.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Peter's Peacocks

Zero joy in watching this mess.   Not one player I want to see.  At least Spears could go for 25 pts.  there is nothing on this team, just bodies.   And the offensive game plan is stupid.   5 guys outside the 3pt line?   WTH is that???
Idk if i will renew espn+ for january.
