Offline Tip-off Wednesday 12/10, 7:00 PM EST at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse Last edited by BluffHunter (12/10/2024 7:51 pm) Offline It's mindless watching the same one player in the game 35 plus minutes a game with this record. With so much talent coming into this year, no one expected these results. I hope the heck we see more players get a chance off the bench than who has been in on the court making this season this bad. It's not just me thinking this. Last edited by NapaDuke (12/11/2024 8:59 am) Offline I believe the Dukes are starting to feel more comfortable and confident playing together. There were a lot of positives from the last game. A few guys like Chabi and Crawford who didn't play much in the early games are making a big difference. So much talent and potential on this team. Keep the faith. Go Dukes 🏀 Offline Spread is Duquesne -6.5 o/u 132.5. (ESPN) Offline Napa, couldn't agree more, but that is what happens when you don't recruit a true PG. This team is going to get better and better. Keeping the faith here. Go Dukes! Offline Thinking once Dimchele comes back Dinkins is going to the bench. Not sure i've seen a player so lackadaisacle in my life Offline Corbett soft as ice cream. Edwards forget it. Keep Necas in and Matus. Cmon Joyce coach. Offline Offense is terrible. Either lose the ball or almost lose the ball every time down the court. Offline Think legalized sports betting has killed mid major teams. Some guys playing on this team, not the layovers, but the incoming guys don't look anything like they did at their previous schools. I mean I don't care how bad a coach is, but you can't hit a layup, or hit a guy wide open, or make a foul shot, and can't do any of those things through 10 games against inferior competition. It's gotta make you wonder. Last edited by Rayrich (12/11/2024 8:22 pm) Offline Maine Coach nice job pressure on in bound. Then trap. Joyce clueless. Long year. Over his head.. Offline Ray rich much respect but it’s coaching. Joyce over his head. How can the returning players sooo digress? This program dead last A10. Sorry but I have seen enough. AAU basketball. The Prez & AD must be sick. The Dukes program has gone from the penthouse to the basement. Oh well last years run was fantastic. Thank you President Gormley Thanks Ironduke. but think it's a little of both. Our country and way of life is going in the tank pretty much. People got to make money, Offline Maine Coach nice job pressure on in bound. Then trap. Joyce clueless. Long year. Over his head.. Players not trying because they or their family and friends have Maine plus the 6.5. Easy money. That's where we are at with legal sports betting unfortunately. That is wildly slanderous. I’m devastated with this season too, but I wouldn’t infer intentional criminality. Metaphor or not Offline I think that will end the season for me. Cancel my espn+, cant get the radio broadcast where i live, and thats fine. Just no interest in watching this garbage, its too depressing. I’ll check boxscores and back here, but thats about it. Metaphor or not Nothing slanderous or illegal about it. Just nobody regulating it. Kind of what the factory schools have been doing for decades . Just pretty obvious at this point. Offline They are just not good. You can't get something that isn't there. I don't even know if John Wooden could win with them. It is what it is. Offline Played defense again well enough to win. No attempt at transition baskets. We had drives to the basket in the beginning that produced fouls and got their Bigs in trouble in a hurry, then forgot about drives to the basket in the second half? We missed enough foul shot, again, to have won it. And who in the heck figured out to run that very bad half-court offense in the second half with those lazy lobs around the perimeter? It caused easy steals to easy baskets for Maine? And we stuck to it? Once again, they pressured our inbounds, mainly because we don't run past them down the court, but instead pass East to West and chew clock getting down the court? The longer we don't run it down the court, the more teams are going to press and trap. It's not the kids, it's the coaching. It's like the coaches are coaching out all the offensive skills these kids have. Last edited by NapaDuke (12/11/2024 10:08 pm) Offline That was brutal to watch, and would have only been marginally better had we found a way to pull out a W. Cannon referenced the first Lipscomb game on the broadcast, but I think this one might have been even worse. That one was just about not being able to sink a three. This one looked like a high school JV game for most of the second half. Last edited by luckymcd (12/11/2024 10:23 pm) Offline Multiple wide open looks from 3 down the stretch and our shooter made 1-5. Dinkins was the only guy who made his 3’s when the game was on the line. Nice shooting on his part, just wish he had taken the little jumper from the lane instead of the kick out pass that was stolen and cost a critical possession. Once they took away Dinkins open looks, I might have preferred to see Necas set up for the open 3’s instead of Matus, but guys just have to make some open shots. This team is very very challenged to make even open shots. The 3-2 zone by Maine in the second half should have been carved up and destroyed. It took far too long for Duquesne to attack and get open shots, but for the most part they missed anyway. Live in the Adirondacks of NY so we have two feet of snow on the ground most times. Shovel 3 or 4 hours a day most days in winter, but always carve out a space in my driveway where I can get an hour morning workout. www.fallenlimbwoodcraft.com i'm a woodcarver and obsessed Dukes fan I golf a lot, now in my 50s i am losing distance, it happens, but want to get some power back. I’m only an hr south of Pittsburgh, so dont get that much snow(wish we would, once) for the natural workouts. It took far too long for Duquesne to attack and get open shots, but for the most part they missed anyway. It was apparent that they were playing zone defense. But all their bigs were in foul trouble and would have to lay off on anyone driving the paint. Also, you beat the zone by driving and collapsing the zone to the ball, then you either pass it out for an open shot or drive it to the hoop expecting them to foul.. Even that alley-oop would work if we tried. Dinkins had a nice drive to an apparent shot attempt in the paint, but passed on it? If we don't handle the zone we can expect to see more of it.

I think we all like Dru and certainly want him to succeed, but he looks in way over his head. We had absolutely no answer to their zones. After they went to a zone shortly after halftime we proceeded to score nine points while turning the ball over seven times in nine and a half minutes. For the game we were 9 for 32 (28%) from TWO point range and 45% from the foul line. This wasn't UNLV from the early 90's we were facing. They lost by double digits to Fordham and Penn and lost another to Quinnipiac. It's going to be a long season, and as has been pointed out Joyce probably gets at least two more.
Re: Game Thread - Maine Black Bears
Responding to Napa and his comments on not going to the hoop in the second half; that was due to the tightly packed 3-2 zone employed by Maine. It took away driving lanes and basically challenged Duquesne to hit some open shots from distance. They didn’t hit enough to win!
Kind of a bad look at the end when the Dukes let 17-seconds run off the clock before fouling. The clock was at 38-seconds when Maine took over up by 3. If the decision was to foul it should have been immediately, not when the clock ran down to 21-seconds.
Oh well, I keep hoping they hit bottom and start to move upward. Could this be the bottom?

Re: Game Thread - Maine Black Bears
I wonder if Dru will lose the team. I saw hints last night…
-terrible lollipop passes which resulted in so many turnovers
-no foul shot improvement
-slouching on bench
-guys out of all who I would play because they care- it doesn’t matter anymore, they don’t have the horses
-Rozier, Necas, Hronsky, Dixon, n Jake when he comes back. Maybe Dinkins but his passes were poor
- Folks, this team has program failure on it - no discipline, losing to poor teams, an embarrassing year. I would be surprised if this team wins more than 5 games this year.
I don’t even know where they would start.
