Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

Have to mention former Duke Jackie Johnson III leads Fordham in scoring with 19.1 points a game. He played at UNLV for two years and returned to the A10 this season.

Dambrot reportedly told Dru he'd be as involved in the program as Dru wanted him to be. I'd guess this is one time he turns to him for advice. Given the state of college sports today, there's literally not a single player on the team who was on the Bluff when Jackson was. Assistant coaches McFadden and Stern should have some insight on how to attack him, but I'd assume Dambrot would have more.

Looking at his numbers, it doesn't look like he's developed much in the two years away. He shoots enough that he's going to get his points, but the more he shoots the worse the team seems to do. The Rams are 5-4 when he shoots less than 15 times, 3-7 when he takes at least that many.

I think we are going to see a lot of Kareem Rozier today matched up against Johnson. If so, I like the chances of holding Johnson at bay.

Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

Dru Joyce is clearly the more experienced coach in regard to today’s game against the Rams. Tray Woodall former Pitt player has limited game experience because of the Urgo suspension. Can you believe that the current wild Wild West in regard to College football & basketball Fordham suspended him for recruiting violations. What he overpaid a potential recruit NIL money? Fordham has no leadership and commitment towards sports from the current President. We are very fortunate to have Ken Gormley at the helm. Fordham should consider the Patriot league so the A10 can get a College like Charleston. Go Dukes.

Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

No worries I just guaranteed a Dukes win. I bet Fordham on the money line and my losing streak will stay intact,

That may be good because the Dukes can’t shoot FT’s.

Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

Disappointing loss.

40 rebounds to 26 and Dixon and Barre combine for 3 points.  Very poor.

Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

Brutal. Needed this one. Now we travel to St. Joe's which is a tall task especially beating them at home in OT. All those missed layups, lack of rebounding, and missed free throws. Hoping Edwards and Wilborn would get some of the Corbett minutes in upcoming games, but Dru seems to like him out there for 30 minutes. I don't get it.

Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

Transition baskets by Fordham kept them in the game. Johnson in his first year at DU  had to hold up in transition to set up half court. Yet in this game you can see driving to the hoop by Fordham  in transition gets the basket or the foul. We got out-muscled under the basket and I wonder if Eli could have made some difference if he was in there more. That last basket just rimmed out for us.  Fordham didn't play like a 0-6 conf. team today.

Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

The Dukes didn’t play like a 4-2 conference team today. Got exactly what they deserved. Just a passive team; not tough at all.

Dru can start corbett, and within 5 minutes you can tell if he’s on, and when he isnt, pull him.

Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

The repeated losses to Fordham are not only inexcusable, but almost always based on Fordham just playing more physically and aggressively than Duquesne.  There is no excuse for being so soft when any team comes at you with aggression.  It’s just the same script every time, get beat on the boards, can’t control drives to the basket, and poor offensive execution.  The team is sleep-walking and needs a wake-up call.  Very poor response after getting blown out at home.

levon, you are right; same old story against Fordham. We had another game where we saw the soft Dixon and the soft, whiny Corbett. I think Dru made a mistake today not getting Wilborn a few more minutes at center; he certainly plays with a chip on his shoulder. I thought that Kareem had a very nice game, but as Dr. G said, his weakness is his height (I thought that Jackie Johnson was short, but he was a good 3 inches taller than Rozier). Very disappointing result.

Fordham seemed to be ready for that lob pass to our bigs to a dunk. I think they intercepted everyone of them. Maybe a backdoor pass from a drive would work when they kept beating us on that ally-oop  pass. Still, Eli could have helped under the basket if he had more minutes.

Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

Bullied on the boards. Dixon was manhandled by #5 and yet no Wilborn or Bure!  Wilborn is athletic and physical and so what if he makes a mistake out of inexperience, Dixon was getting schooled all day anyway. What up with that Dru??!! Up one and out of time out Dinkins at the top going one on one and 4 guys standing in a box, sorry coach, how about some fluid offensive movement. Yeah Dinkins was scoring some in the second half but that offensive play out of a T. O. looked doomed from the start!  Out rebounded 40-26 and you don’t try Burre or Wilburn?? And why not more Maximus and less Corbett? Corbett is good defender, slasher and rebounder, but he really is not a good shooter and if teams force him to use his right hand he is toast. His complaining constantly is getting old as well. Time to adjust your rotation Dru. This was a game we needed to win with St. Joe’s  coming up in Philly and this is a team we should have beaten, period end of story.

Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

Very disappointing loss, not just because it was to the last place team, but because they seemed to want it more. It’s tough to win on the road in this conference, but against a last place team with the only coach in the conference with less experience this should have been a win. The last St. Joe’s game was big. This one is even bigger now. We won’t be favored, but we need to answer the bell.

Re: Game Thread - Fordham Rams

CoachDru got schooled by a part time head coach. I do however believe in Dru Joyce. It’s a learned no process shi@ happens. This team is good.
