Corbett can hit a foul shot to save his life so why is he shooting threes? His complaining is so old at this point and his defense stinks tonight. Corbett hit 6-straight free throws in this game; so let’s give credit where it’s due. Yep I did in my last post. Corbett came up big Really good game by the Dukes tonight. Hronsky and Wilborn both may have played their best games to date of their careers. Wilborn was a beast and just out muscled and outworked the Fordham centers and Hronsky played a fantastic all around game his shooting, rebounding and defense were all good and he saw the floor and passed tremendously tonight. Everyone else played solid and the team played very well after the first five or so minutes. As always Urgo was constantly whining tonight. He is the opposing coach who most annoys me. I like this point about our depth. Clearly Wilborn is getting better with every minute that he plays. He needs minutes to grow and he got them last night. The injuries have increased PT for certain guys and is paying off. Wilborn and Matus specifically. Max remains an enigma. It looked like he was about to step into the go to guy role and then he disappears. Not playing “badly” like at the start of the season but not contributing consistently on offense the way we know he can. And Corbett, there’s no predicting what you will get from him in any given night. Dru has a tall task pushing the right PT buttons for him. I’d hate to see him try to make a hero play late in a game in the tourney only to cost us with a bad miss or missed FTs but clearly he can be a productive member of this team when used correctly. I don’t think any of us at this point including Dru know what “used correctly” means for Corbett. He’s both fun and terrible to watch. I’ll say that. Last year at this point, the Dukes were 6-7 in conf. play. Today, they are 6-7 again in conf. play. It really looked like this team is playing good ball these last two games and are deep enough have a decent chance of winning the A-10 again. I’ll only add that we have the top dogs left to play - tough stretch run for sure I want to go on record and say I’m proud of Cam for the way he responded last night. Must have been tough dealing with the end of the Dayton game but he came back strong. He’s been a consistent reliable player all season. Great 3 point shooter and defender. Hes as big a reason the Dukes season didn’t implode after the 0-5 start as anyone. So happy to see him play well last night. So glad he is a starter on this team. I have nothing but confidence in him going forward. Corbett can hit a foul shot to save his life so why is he shooting threes? His complaining is so old at this point and his defense stinks tonight. It’s talked about in the press conference, but I noticed during the game he wasn’t taking that huge deep breath at the line. All season he has seemed to be overthinking up there. I think they told him to speed it up and think less. Corbett can hit a foul shot to save his life so why is he shooting threes? His complaining is so old at this point and his defense stinks tonight. He speaks of Corbett’s FT issues, working with Coach Sulliger and looking at video of his FT’s at Chicago St. resulting in a 4-4 night. He also touches on Cam and how they both handled the situation, the evolution of Eli, the slow start and the lack of intensity, etc. Last edited by PhoenixRising2 (2/20/2025 11:40 am) One final thought on depth/rotation/PT. I really think DRU needs to take a hard look at his options at guard. Just some numbers to think about. Kareem is shooting 33% from the field. That is the worst on the team. He continues to avg 28 mins a game (3rd most) and has taken the 3rd most shots on the team. He also shoots under 70% at the line while taking the 3rd most FTs on the team. Lastly, he is shooting 32% from 3. Those numbers by any standard are really bad. I looked at last year when the Dukes went on their run and game in game out Kareem was playing 14-16 mins. Shooting at an over 40% clip from 3 and the field. I know with Jake being hurt, options are limited - Dru still needs to find a way to reduce Kareem’s PT. We need to maximize his strengths and reduce his weaknesses. I think Max or Matus along with Cam and Trey in the backcourt is worth a try. Kareem plays so hard perhaps he’s wearing himself out. Every game he makes a big play or 2 out working or out hustling someone. He hits the floor more than anybody on the team as well. Dru needs to look at the numbers adjust the rotation at guard a bit. The time has come.
CURRENT RECORD 11 - 15 (6-7 in the A-10)

I think our depth can work against us if not managed correctly. We have 10 guys who all can do certain things well and share minutes but we need to ride the hot hands more. Last game Hronsky was hot to start and then didn't play for 15 minutes. We need to play the guys who are playing the best more minutes and use the guys that are off on a given tonight more sparingly. Having a shorter bench tonight allowed the guys to get and stay in their rhythm.
I'm hoping we can find the right combination of minutes, get hot at the right time, and make a run in D.C. in a few weeks.
