This board is getting crazy. Let’s go Dukes. CLK retires & this board is going south. Very sad. Kooks mania. Let’s stay focused. Wonder if the Pope reads this board? Probably, that's why he is so sick. I suggest you folks apply for the coaching position after they fire Dru. Any one of us can do a better job than Dru, that's why we are posting on the board instead of pacing the sidelines. For what it's worth, we need to cheer the Dukes on, good times or bad. Save the misguided opinions for those that truly deserve it, people who have the cure for everything. Let's pray for the Pope and call it a day! Wow. Can we keep the politics off this board? It's a basketball forum. Somehow we morphed into comments about the fear of job losses. This board is getting crazy. Let’s go Dukes. CLK retires & this board is going south. Very sad. Kooks mania. Let’s stay focused. Not going south. People shouldn't be criticized by speaking their minds about any game. I told everyone on this board mid season last year that the Dukes would win the A-10 tourney and was laughed at and ridiculed to no end. ZERO props in the end for that prediction. Instead other people took credit for such prognostications way past mid season. A total passive aggressive pompous mentality by some on this board. Wow, I really missed nuttiness on the board. I was at the game today. Staying up north tonight. Frustrating game. Dukes had their chances. Wilborn and Dixon played their hearts out but failure to execute in key situations by all the guards cost us. Where was Corbett?!? Not on the court or the bench. The team looks different without Necess AND Corbett out there Wonder what the deal is? Reilly Center is a great place to see a college basketball game. Incredible atmosphere. Old school. Tough place to play. Seriously guys? This is a basketball board. Ray, nobody brought up politics, nobody wants to talk politics. Napa, log off and try again tomorrow. You guys make people not want to participate in the board. Wow, I really missed nuttiness on the board. I was at the game today. Staying up north tonight. Frustrating game. Dukes had their chances. Tough place to play. No political rallies. Got to hit everyone everywhere to make aware what the hell is going on. Won't post again. I'm out. Thanks for the updates Bluffhunter. Dukes will do better next year, To much fan base bad kharma this year. Seriously guys? This is a basketball board. Ray, nobody brought up politics, nobody wants to talk politics. Napa, log off and try again tomorrow. You guys make people not want to participate in the board. Sorry, you are right. My bad. I'm talking to a mad man. I should have never took the bite Not in 30 years on this board did we ever have it run off like this. Politics aside. We need guards. We surely have everything else. Dear Colleagues, Dear Colleagues, FAM/BLuffhunter. Please check your private messages. I need to apologize on my name calling referring to Rozier. My frustration got the better of me with the pattern of substitution in this game and should have been on the coaching decisions, not the player. St.B.'s guards are 6'5" and 6'4" and played all 40 minutes. Most good teams work on offense to create miss-matches. Bringing in Rozier just 4 plus minutes into the game and taking out our 6'2" best shooter was not the players decision, it's the coach. From that point St.B. had a miss match no matter who Rozier was defending. Then after 5 minutes, coach subbed Dinkins back in but pulled 6'5" Crawford out for the next 5 to six minutes, leaving St.B. a constant miss match for another 5 plus minutes. Barre hits two FT's and is promptly benched? Coach does these things and they mostly look like bad decisions. We have seen things like Hronsky getting benched in the Dayton game when he was on fire. Maybe the coach is learning, but sometimes if a player isn't going to be a good fit against an opponent, just maybe, It's a bad enough fit not do it. You don't want that crowd into it as St.B. went ahead at that point and kept it. We have the talent to win it all, but only if the right players are in at the right time. The Dukes have got to win at La Salle to hold a good spot in the tourney. Last edited by NapaDuke (2/23/2025 3:01 pm) Seriously guys? This is a basketball board. Ray, nobody brought up politics, nobody wants to talk politics. Napa, log off and try again tomorrow. You guys make people not want to participate in the board. I want to thank you for that advise. We beat the crap out of St.B. at home, but really needed this win on the road. I was very wrong for blaming the player, not the coach. Going into this season as the A-10 champs we all were just full of high expectations to be like 30-2 at this point, maybe nationally ranked. We all did. But as the season started and we lost to really bad teams, it was not just disappointing, it looked like we squandered that chance of being in the national stoplight. But even now, we can still go into the A-10 tourney and turn it on. This last game shows us, not the players, but the coaching staff is not up to the task. Again, thanks for that advise. As all fans do, I sometimes scratch my head about Dru's substitution choices. However, I have been delighted with his open minded approach to defensive tactics & schemes. He did a solid job with that yesterday giving the Dukes a last chance to steal one on the road. As all fans do, I sometimes scratch my head about Dru's substitution choices. I will thank you for posting and moving on. Your insite is spot on. I . like you do see the winning in this coach and team and the narrow margin of error that all top teams can or can't do. Great post.. And remember, every D-1 team has the players to win, but only a handfull of teams have the coach. We might have him, but he really needs to wake up and play the best on this team. Not just who he likes. It's the difference between a great coach and all the others. It will get uglier this year, none of the remaining games is easy. But at the same time, need to remember this is year one of a reorg. I would hope the money made off last years run in March, merch sales, etc will be in the account for the portal spending this year. Joyce will know more about what he has and needs and not living thru a whirlwind of getting a HC gig. Maybe wont need a lot of players and can focus on particular needs. Overall, I thought that the Dukes gave a good account of themselves on Saturday. Tough arena and 2 starters down are a pretty tough combination to beat. Maybe a few hiccups along the way and a few too many 3's especially near game's end but, overall, I was fairly impressed with the away game performance. If we are going to make any kind of a run, we need Necas and Corbett in there along with all other available starters. Lots of growth on this team in the last couple of weeks and with Dru as well over the course of the season. Regardless of what happens the remainder of the season, I do believe that the basketball program at Duquesne is in the best of hands. Looking forward to all of it and LET"S GO DUKES!! Call me crazy I like this coach& team. I must be in the same asylum as you are, Ironduke81. It's strange because this team likely will end up with 20 losses. Call me crazy I like this coach& team. I must be in the same asylum as you are, Ironduke81. It's strange because this team likely will end up with 20 losses. We started the year without enough game day guards, plus Jake went out early. We have some of the best bigs likely in the A-10 but with only Dinkins and Crawford as the two top scorers on the team, Those 2 are scoring even with the tops in the A-10 at the guard position. That's too thin in that position.

The best advice I ever had on that subject came from my father-in-law (who was very successful) when he said to me - "I've been fired from a lot of jobs ... Some of them I even liked!"

And the Rozier attacks?!? Keep your analysis to his play and lose the juvenile name calling. I know that it is fashionable these days to name call and attack people but it’s tiresome and has no place here. Save it for your political rallies.

We do Not want to delete posts. No more politics. This is for basketball. I hope everyone got things out of their system. Stick to basketball. Yes, politics are in every day life, but this board is to get away from those difficult situations and follow Duquesne basketball. (which is also difficuilt right now...LOL). I am not calling any individuals out personally on this board, but you know what you posted. We are asking that the politics and name calling stops as it was and will be deleted. In addition, we don't want to ban users. However, please read the top of the board. We want everyone to just discuss basketball...that's it, basketball...it's that simple. This is a KIND REMINDER to THOSE who got off track. Thank you.

As usual, yesterday's trip to Olean made me jealous of their home court advantage.
I believe there is enough total talent on this team to produce a top flight A-10 team. I see the problem as a shortage of offensive fire power at the 4 & the absence of an A-10 quality lead guard. These issues prevent the total team talent to produce more wins.
I assume that having Alex Williams & Jake would have helped with both issues. I just don't know how much.

Every one of these players has shown at times (a game or for extended minutes in a game) that they are high quality A10 players. At other times, not so much. It's rare that in a given game that most of the players are playing up to their ability. For example, in the Bonnies game, you just can't have Matus, Max and Kareem go 3-19 (with many good looks) from 3 and expect to win on the road (really offsetting the great effort inside from Wilborn, Dixon and Barre).
I like how Coach Dru is handling and coaching this team. He is putting them into a position to win, but the players have not been able to close the deal. When players are consistently inconsistent, it tells me that we simply need better players, especially at the point guard position.
