Re: WNIT Bid

Al, don't put words into my post that aren't there.  I never once said Jim Satalin was a role model or even implied that he was a good coach because he wasn't -- he was the coach when I was at Duquesne.  And, btw, I am STILL WAITING FOR YOU TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS ABOVE!!

As usual, you are over your skis and posting nonsense.  Did you commit 4 years of your life to Duquesne basketball as a student like I did?  Did you invest hours after the practice working with team and coaching staff getting things ready for the next day to make our program better?  Have you ever made that type of commitment to Duquesne basketball as I have??  Don't challenge me and whine about Dan Burt's feelings getting hurt because he's a below-average coach.

But since we're playing this game, Dan has been here a long time.  His last 5 years, he is 40-39 in conference play and overall is 75-66.  If this were his first 5 years, then maybe you could say their is some progress and some momentum.  But this is not his first 5 years.  And given his length that he has been at Duquesne, that 5-year record is abysmal and most coaches at other schools are removed.

There is NO EXCUSE to finish 9th in the league in year 14 of his coaching career!  So, please explain to me how THAT is an accomplishment for Burt...because from where I stand that is failure and UNDERACHIEVEMENT!!

Re: WNIT Bid

In Burt's last five years, the team has finished in 9th place twice, 10th place twice and one time in 5th place.

Again, these are not successful indicators in year 14.

Re: WNIT Bid

You CAPITALIZE WINNING GAMES --  When I point out Dan is Superior to Satalin in this you sprout the above NONSENSE.

There is a quote Coaches who listen to the Fans - May Soon Be Joining Them.   And whatever role you had back then presuming you were NOT a Coach --  You're in THAT CATEGORY!!!!!

Re: WNIT Bid

Al, are you trying to make the argument that winning games is not the most important criteria for the head coach?  ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME????????

Coaches are PAID to win games.

Dude, what have you ever done for Duquesne basketball except being Dan Burts only defender?  Do you even know anything about basketball???  Clearly, you don't after posting such a nonsensical statement as winning games.

Please, please, PLEASE point out what aspects of Dan's coaching ability that make him better than an average coach who in the last 5 years has finished 9th, 10th, 10th, 5th and 9th in the conference???

As for the personal attack directed to me, you look small.  Try to post something that supports your fanboy mentality.

You know Al, you have just disrespected everyone who has ever been involved in the Duquesen basketball program, with your statement...that includes every player, coach, trainer, student manager, and student trainer.  Pure class Al, pure class.

So I guess EVERYONE (student Managers, Trainers, etc)  ARE qualified to make lengthy posts about strategies, playing time etc.  I said YOU . Where did I disrepect anyone else??  By placing them ALL in your post are you implying that they all carry equal weight??  As for Disrespecting COACHES --  WHAT do you call it when in EVERY POST you find something negative manner.about Dan.

Dan spends an enormous amount of time on DU basketball strategies, film study etc for which he is well compensated.  How much time do YOU spend on DU basketball --  and before you say that's not my job look how  it appears you have an I know more/better than Dan attitude.  Did it ever occur to you after a possible close WIN - had Dan adapted to your game plans the team might have lost??   NAH probably would have won by a bigger margin.

Here is ONE example --  you frequently talk about playing the two bigs together for 25 minutes..  28 minutes is probably close to the max for any player (other than Meg)  some might be effective for a slightly longer span Jerni played 31 against Longwood  So IF Kiandra and Gabby could play 28 minutes together. WHAT would our Interior Post defense be like the other 12 minutes?  Would you be comfortable with Faith and Fatou guarding another team's bigs down low?? Especially with them being freshmen and perhaps the opposition with a pair of bigger seniors in the post.   Maybe Dan is doing his best to ensure there is ONE big on the floor for as MUCH time as possible.

Your posts regarding opposing foes WERE HIGHLY INFORMATIVE -  ditto for the portal --  yet at the end there is always that ....but Dan....

One last point regarding the five year span your numbers are correct --  but consider the first two years which were the COVID years..  EASY to say well everyone got hit..  NOT so fast -- teams did not play the same number of games..  team A might have "lost a home game against a cellar dweller" team B might have lost "a road game against one of the top teams"  Teams didn't know on a day to day basis if they could even practice ..I'm NOT proposing they expunge the recrds but    maybe THAT year should not be included in a 5 year period analysis.

In the NEXT year --  DU was WITHOUT A HOME COURT --  played some home games in multiple sites..  In one television show with Dambrot it was brought up that the Practice Court in the Power Center was NOT equal to regulation NCAA Courts - it  was probably only slightly off but can ANY team afford to practice like that..

Would a THREE year period as opposed to Five (Two WNIT Bids -  One win (at least in each) over a three year period change things in any way for you

I realize I'm probably NOT going to change your mind but decided to give it one last go. especially with the season coming to an end soon

You mad bro?  You want to come at me, bring it on.

Do you realize how silly you have sounded throughout this thread?  Reminding you of this gem:
You CAPITALIZE WINNING GAMES --  When I point out Dan is Superior to Satalin in this you sprout the above NONSENSE.

So, the "nonsense" you claimed I spouted was that I correctly pointed out the women's team's finish in A10 conference league play: 9th, 10th, 10th, 5th and 9th.  That is reality - you can look it up yourself.  And, it is FACT.

Just curious, what do you think is the reason why coaches get fired?  I will tell you, it is WINNING GAMES.  Example, last year Kevin Keatts was about to get fired, and then his team had a miracle run, won the ACC tournament and then advanced to the Final Four.  This year, his team didn't qualify for the ACC tournament and he was fired.  If you don't think winning games is the reason why coaches are fired, then I don't know what to say to you.

Now getting back to you attacking me, because you hate what I post here, I ask you this question, have you read anything that I have posted where I didn't provide thorough and detailed analysis backing up the points I was making?  Have I ever once posted anything that is a lie? Given that no one has pointed out that my analysis was wrong, leads me to believe that Burt is personally whining to you because you have yet to provide any kind of analysis until now.

As for Disrespecting COACHES --  WHAT do you call it when in EVERY POST you find something negative manner.about Dan.

Here is something you can take back to Dan - grow a thicker skin.  As a head coach Burt is not free from criticism.  I have every right to point out the flawed strategies, poor substitution patterns that led to losses, or the fact that team was beaten by 20+ points three times at the end of the season when they should be playing their best basketball.

And I use my own personal knowlege of the game to back up every point I make.  Clearly, you and Burt (are you one in the same?) seem to think that nobody can make a critical comment.  You do realize that the reason why I post the lengthy comments is because I want to provide a rational argument to support my criticism. Despite what Burt is clearly saying to you, there is no rule that states basketball coaches are free from any criticism and should never be questionned or challenged.

Like anyone else who has ever participated in college basketball practice and I was there everyday for 4 years, I know a thing or two and I know what I am speaking about.  I'm not just screaming nonsense into the atmosphere, I back up my comments with analysis that explains my position and why I am challenging what I am seeing during the games.

Dan spends an enormous amount of time on DU basketball strategies, film study etc for which he is well compensated.

Since you bring it up, let's address compensation as you are stating that Dan is well paid.  I don't know what his annual salary is, but I am going to do an experiment.  If Dan were paid $200k per year, that would mean that he has been paid $1M in the last 5 years by Duquesne. I have stated that in the last five years, this team has finished 9th, 10th, 10th, 5th and 9th place.  Given that this is not his first 5 years, but he is now in his 13th season, it is clear that is robbing the cookie jar with that poor performance.  In business parlance, that is not a good ROI.  Again, he is not in his first 5 years, he has been in charge for 13 years.

How much time do YOU spend on DU basketball --  and before you say that's not my job look how  it appears you have an I know more/better than Dan attitude.

This is just stupid on your part.  Again, you seem to be implying that nobody is qualified to question Dan and his coaching decisions.  It's interesting you referenced the FAN trying to attack me, but don't realize the irony of that station is for sports talk, where announcers analyze coaching for a living, making comments and providing criticism.  Yes, I have every right to comment and used my knowledge of the sport to back up my points, despite the fact that Dan doesn't like what I have to say.  I don't have an attitude that I know more, I just have an opinion and they are not the same.

I will be brief in this commentary, since it is actually something that has merit.  As for Faith and Fatou on the floor to defend the bigs from the other team, I have no problem with substituing them in the first half, giving Brown and Hutcerson a break.  I also support them coming in for a brief spell in the 3rd quarter, but unless Brown or Hutcherson are on the bench with 4 fouls or have fouled out, they needed to be on the floor the majority of the 4th quarter and especially at the end of the game.  Let me ask you this Al, do you think we should have the 5 best players on the floor at the end of the game, when the game is on the line?  I will tell you my opinion and I think the majority would agree with me, you want the 5 best players on the floor at the end of the game, when the game is in the balance.  Reason: playing the 5 best players gives you the best chance to win.

I will state that there are going to be times you need to substitute a player out to avoid a situational disadvantage.  Against Richmond, we needed to have Hutcherson on the floor instead of Walker, becasue she is taller, stronger and more experienced.  We needed Kiaku on the floor in place of Blackford because she is quicker, better defender and better at driving to the hoop.

Do you agree with me here?  That putting those 5 on the floor at the end of the Richmond game, with the caveats that I just stated, was the right thing to do to give us the best chance at winning?  Can you defend why Burt chose not to have his 5 best players on the floor at that time?

That points out my entire frustration with Burt, and I shared it early in the fall when I met with an athletic department employee who told me that the feeliing was we were going to challenge for a title this year.  I said then that I was highly suspicious of that outcome and one of the biggest reason is that Burt's substitution patterns make no sense to me.  For the life of me, I couldn't believe Gabby Grantham-Medly sat and never got off the bench in games last year when she clearly was more athletic than the guards playing in front of her who were turning the ball over, getting beat defensively and missing shots.

I will sum up the last part of your message by saying this, excuses are for losers.  Your last three paragraphs are exactly that, exuces for losing.  And no, you can't say that the covid year shouldn't count because it did count.  That year, we won 5 games.  The following year, after covid, we were 11-18.  And these were games played at the Coop so you can't say we didn't have a home court.  You do realize that when we were playing games at LaRoche, the other team was subjected to playing in that arena too.  If Burt's excuse is that the practice gym wasn't big enough, then why didn't he find a place that meet the needs?  I'm pretty sure that CCAC's gym is still open and it is fully regulated and it was a short ride over there.  Again, if you and Burt want to cry about a small practice gym, then why didn't he find somewhere else to practice?

The last 5 years are part of the record and can't be dismissed.  If you want to take that approach, then I will say, well let's forget about the beginning of Burt's career when he took at us to the NCAA Tournament with the ratonale being 'that shouldn't count because it was so long ago'.

Like I have said, what have you done for me lately and the answer is 9th place, 10th place 10th place, 5th place and 9th place.
