Sunday at 1:00 PM EST Duquesne visits Miami of Ohio in the second round of the WNIT! Miami had a first round bye, so they kick off their 2025 WNIT journey vs. the Dukes. Lots of 3s to get this kicked off. That 4 point play by Megan straight into a steal was awesome. Great first quarter. That went about as bad as it could for their big, #22. Agree, great first qtr and loved Meg's play. Last edited by DU90 (3/23/2025 12:52 pm) Up at the half...with that said, "should" be up by more. I counted at least 5 missed layups or should have been layups with steals and then turnovers. Brown is going to have to be careful, can't afford to get her into deep foul trouble in 2nd half. We are clearly forced to play small and I expect Miami to look to exploit that size advantage and target Brown and look to get her into foul trouble. Too MANY turnovers!!! - Our big is too slow underneath Good subbing her out. Better with smaller and faster. Meg made up with missing her 2 foul shots by a steal and lay-up. Defense is picking it up - Good Job Coach Bell! Keep in this line-up coach Dan. Great third quarter. 2 turnovers by stepping on the out of bounds line. Come on ladies!!!!! Need to hold on - if not, this is on the players. HUGE block by Faith Walker! HUGE block by Faith Walker! Really needed that. CLUTCH! AWESOME! GREAT JOB - NICE WIN - must clean up the dumb turnovers to win the next one. Great win for the Dukes! Oh they won. Go figure. Congratulations to Coach Burt and the DU women. AWESOME Job All Around Next up is winner of Cleveland State vs Coppin State. Last edited by SkepticAl (3/23/2025 2:17 pm) I would be surprised if Cleveland State doesn’t win. They are extremely strong. I would be surprised if Cleveland State doesn’t win. They are extremely strong. FAM: Per the Net Rankings -- They are as of 3/16/ Perhaps this is due to they try to set up the numbers PRIOR to the start of the Post Season and don't need to adjust them afterwards. From DU athletics website, Per Torvik, the Dukes are #117 after the win over Miami and Cleveland State is #128. He has them winning by 15 points over Coppin State. Cleveland State pasted Robert Morris by 20+ in both of their games. We beat RMU relatively easily. If it is Cleveland State, should be a close game. Go Dukes! Re: WNIT GAME THREAD - MIAMI REDHAWKS
I hate that Brown is playing outisde and shooting 3's. I want her on the block ready to receive the pass, where she can make a post move or pass outside for an open look or feed a cutter. If Miami is going to double Brown on the block, we nned to have someone cut to the hoop.
I loved the drive by Walker as that seems to be one of the few times we have looked to exploit the paint, instead of dribbling through it looking for a 3.
I expect Miami to double Brown in 2nd half when she is on the block, but if she's at the top of the offense, Miami will wall us up on the perimeter. We can't expect to hit the 3 with the same success in 2nd half.

Big key, the first half success from 3pt range has allowed opened up the lane allowed for us to attack the basket. I said one thing about using Browne on the block is that she can draw defenders and we need to cut to the hoop and we saw a perfect example of that when she fed (I think) Blackford on a beautiful cut to the hoop for a layup.

“Congrats to the Dukes on their commanding win over a talented University of Miami, Ohio, team in the second round of the WNIT Tournament," Duquesne University President Ken Gormley said. "A special shout-out to Megan McConnell who made history as all-time steals leader and the second all-time scorer in the history of the Womens' Basketball program. Next stop -- the Super 16 round of the WNIT later this week against an opponent TBD. This is an exciting year for one of the most impressive and gritty womens' basketball teams in our storied history. Let's show the country what this team is made of! Go Dukes!!!"
