Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Wish him well. We didn’t have a cohesive unit at the guard position this year. The test will be to upgrade talent and establish a group that works effectively as a unit.

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

I enjoyed watching him play and wish him the best at his new school.

I believe in Cam Jake and Brandon that we have enough at the 2 guard spot for next year. Especially if Max returns who can play there also.

Main need is experienced PG from portal to go along with Lawson freshman who I believe is still hopeful coming.

So barring any other defections I say get another SF who can finish at paint and shoot 3s
Lastly a true PF who can play facing or back to basket!

This could all change if someone else transfers

Its portal picking time!

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Bummer. That hurts.

I hope he gets paid & gets to play his preferred position.

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Not overly upset about this one either. Wilborn, Necas, Dixon, and Jake are the only transfers we really can't afford to lose.

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Good luck to Tre; hope he gets paid somewhere.  I was hoping that he would not come back; to me, his shooting prowess did not overcome his defensive and ball handling deficiencies.  At Canisius and Duquesne, his teams went 37-57; to me, not a guy that is going to take you to the top 4 in the A10.

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Not terribly upset to see him go but also wish him the best. The simple fact is this team was not good enough last year, reflected by the early season start, the overall record, the streaky performances, and the many blown leads throughout the season. Team defending wasn’t great and I don’t think Dinkins was a guy who was making that any better. He was the best player on an average squad. We needed two guys like Clark and Dae Dae to make the run we did and Dinkins was not close to the level of player either of those guys were here.

He was getting 15 a game at Canisius and 12 here. He’s either going to go up a level and be a 6th man or stay at this level and start somewhere else most likely. He is not really an A10 lead guard at the 1 or 2 in my opinion and has a little Primo Spears/Jackie Johnson to him in the way he plays. Streaky and not particularly clutch when you compare some of the shots Grant and Clark made last year in tight games. I credit a lot of his volume production this year to a lack of having other guys that wanted to create offense for themselves consistently.  He was one of the few who would be aggressive to try to score and we need more guys like that to be competitive in general.

I think the losses so far have been guys who really aren’t going to elevate your program at this level. I really think we need to find proven transfer starters at both guard positions to improve with Jake and Maximus providing depth and challenging for minutes. You can also find out what hall is next year.

I would actually be ok with Crawford as the starting three next year with the Furman kid pushing him. I’d like to keep Dixon, Wilborn and Necas but think we need a starting center. Anyone else is just a guy to me.

I almost agree at least about ball handling and defense (he wasn’t terrible at D). I wish he would have had a little more Kareem energy and grit too. But I would have loved to see him play the true 2 spot where he could focus on getting good looks and knocking them down. Trey could fill the rim like few we’ve seen around here. Hes no centerpiece of a team but he will certainly help put a team over the top.  We could certainly be a top 4 team in the A-10 with him at the 2.

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

I can't blame him for leaving. Every game down the stretch, Dru subbed in Rozier at about 4 minutes in every game regardless of what was happening and sat Tre?  Then in around 5 more minutes subbed him back in for Crawford, but kept Rozier in, again regardless of what was happening in the game. If I were Tre or Crawford, I'd have been a bit ticked off. It wasn't about how the game was going or how these 2 guards were doing, but some pattern substitution to get Rozier in the game.  That broke a lot of momentum in each of those game. I'd move on too. Best of luck to Tre. I hope the next team is a better fit.

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Did you ever think that the coaching staff didn't want him back?

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

That's an interesting take, Phoenix. You have made me think.

Previously, I was sold on Tre returning because it would be his second year in the A-10, in the same system, and playing with many of the same teammates. Not that he is as complete a player as either guy, but that sequence of events really seemed to springboard Dae Dae and Jimmy.

I thought his desire to win became more evident as this season went on, while his playmaking definitely improved. Coach Dru definitely deserves credit for making him at least accountable on the defensive end, but I don't think he will ever be a good defender. I was excited to see him do his thing in a better-stocked backcourt.

You have poked some holes in my logic.

Everything from coaching complaints to telling fans to watch their mouths. Tre probably doesn’t even know he started doing this, almost feel bad for him for his dad to be embarrassing him like this.

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Saw a number of games up close. I mentioned a while back that there was a visible level of friction between rosier and dinkins on the court. To me it was unacceptable and needed to be corrected. I’m ok with a reboot at this point.

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Tre gave us good effort and worked hard. Was better as the year went by, but he was slow in his ball- handling, passing and defense. Hope he gets a payday elsewhere.

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Not really much on the Dinkins X feed, one or two dorks talking trash, but I did see E Mich guard Christian Henry has interest from the Dukes, along with some others, Dayton being one of them :-(

I like his stats and he’s 6’3
I noticed he played Juco before EMU so even being a JR would still have 2 years available

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Sorry to see Dinkins leaving but kind of expected it. Really thought he might end up in a Euro league somewhere. With NIL dollars being what they are, college ball has become quite lucrative and competes with overseas play. Wish him much luck!

Re: Tre Dinkins Enters the Transfer Portal

Tre filled a need as a shooter on this team, but should only be a secondary option on most teams.  He isn’t a guy that can make his own shot or get to the rim, so he is somewhat limited.  They desperately needed someone to break down defenses, so that will be a priority for next season.
