Ethan Anish in portal This is such a shame for the walk ons. Money does ruin everything huh? Sure does, these kids could be enjoying their time at DUQ and getting half way to their degree, and really want to play ball, even if its in practices or mop up time. Now they have to go elsewhere, probably low level bball schools to have the game in their lives. Prolla probably can play at some NEC level place. IDK enough about any of the others. This is crazy timing, as I had just mentioned the two of them in the roster thread a couple days ago. As for money ruining walkons, I do have one thought. I certainly don’t bring this up to denigrate our walkons in any way. They’re certainly entitled to do what needs to be done in today’s world to keep playing the game they love. If they were so inclined, couldn’t they stay on as non-roster players though? Obviously they couldn’t appear in any games, but that was already a long shot and only happened in blowouts anyway. They weren’t on scholarship, so if Dru wanted to use normal students as a scout team could the NCAA prevent that? I don't think there is any option to have a player practicing who is not on the roster (note that coaches can still "practice" with the team - for example, Ari Stern often participates on the scout team in practice). I get that the roster limit is 15, but I’m curious about non-roster participants. For example, I know some schools who have dominant women’s teams and lesser men’s teams the two will occasionally go against each other in practice. It’s going back a few decades now, but I know Notre Dame soccer and Tennessee basketball used to do this. Or as a more extreme example (since I didn’t play competitive basketball after middle school) if Danny Nee saw some value to me practicing with the team in my undergrad years is the NCAA really going to step in and say it’s not allowed?
