Awesome I like this one also shot 46% overall fg and 75% ft free throw line. Only a sophomore and a solid 210 lbs. Last edited by Motor (4/19/2025 7:32 pm) Thank you. Pittsburgh Sports Now will do an article based off of your alert. lol When did he graduate high school? Did he go to the same school as Sin Carry? When did he graduate high school? Did he go to the same school as Sin Carry? He did go to Solon High School, the same as Carey and Mike Bekelja. For the research I have been trying to do, there is not a lot of information readily available on his background. Seems very under-recruited out of high school. At face value, A player who averaged 7.5 ppg as a "freshman" at a respectable program in USF in a top 10 conferance while also shooting at very good efficiency. 46% from the field and 39% from three is very promising. This has really gone under the radar in my opinion and is a very good pickup. Hopefully, this is not like the Hugley transfer and pushes CC or Edwards or Alex Williams out. A Trade of Edwards for Williams. Probably more upside at this point with Williams. Best of luck Max Edwards left? When? Edwards left? When? Not long after Williams committed to Duquesne. Giving this some more thought, It's probably not the worst scenario at the moment. Although a brutal start, Edwards did start to find his feet later in the year and was a solid piece down the stretch. Williams seems to have a pretty skillset and fit in this system. The silver-lining in my opinion is that a good amount of funds should be cleared up with this departure, Edwards took a pretty big hit on the available funds and for a player not really playing to that expectation, might've just been better to mutually part ways. Seemed like a good kid, wish him well. Yeah, agree, get a bit younger, but not sure what that means anymore. Still got 4 open spots i believe. Experienced PG and a young big man would be ideal. I was already on the fence about Williams, but if his entrance caused Max’s exit I’m disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, his skillset definitely fills a need and every team needs role players. A lowly recruited bench player from a similar level program doesn’t get me excited though. I feel like Max had a higher ceiling even if he didn’t come anywhere near hitting it last season. If the Williams signing caused Edwards to leave then I am disappointed in Edwards. By all accounts Max is a good kid, but he has some issues. He was a disaster in the non conference part of last season where he played major minutes. He was so bad that Dru had to bench him. It wasn't until the end of conference play that he started to play up to his potential. Even then he was inconsistent. Jimmie's age/physical maturity, experience against D-1 competition in a respected mid-major conference, 3pt shooting numbers, multiple years of eligibility, size, & All-American award at the juco level are all positive indicators. Let's not forget about Alex Williams either. 40%t three point shooter on a Tourney Team at Furman. It would appear the off ball 2 guard and small ball 3 positions are all filled now. Crawford, Williams X2, and of course DiMichele. Remember, we were finishing the year, with basically only Edwards and Crawford at the 2 guard. I think Williams, Williams, and DiMichele can easily improve on the option that Edwards was providing. and if someone does not want to be a part of the program, then farewell to you! But as I said previously, all comes down to the point guard position, and some other athletic bigs. This forum is hosted for free by Boardhost. Create your own free forum!

Jimmie Williams, a 6’5 guard
Duquesne lands a transfer this afternoon in sophomore Jimmie Williams, a 6’5 guard from South Florida with Ohio roots.
Averaged 7.5 ppg on 40% 3PT in 18 mpg off the bench, including 16 at UTSA.

Re: Jimmie Williams, a 6’5 guard
Did he play at another school for a year before going to Wallace or did he get injured & redshirt there?
Maybe he went to the now defunct Notre Dame College in Ohio?

But yeah, this roster is really starting to take shape. There should be a lot of growth from this team next year. But it is all going to ride on who is playing the Point. Need an unselfish guy who is able to really command an offense. Dinkins had his moments but he was not a true PG but rather an undersized SG. Go get that PG along with an athletic backup C and things are really looking up. Not even to mention a much improved 2nd year coach. I am excited.

While I was hoping that Dru had finally gotten through to the kid and that he could possibly start and be a leader he decides to leave just before the Portal closes. I don't know what his reason was. If his reason was because he did not like competition, I wish him well. I am sure some team will pick him up. I want a team of alpha dogs that believe in themselves and their team and willing to compete and earn what they get. I have confidence that this is the type of team Dru's building. Go Dukes!

For what it is worth, he is rated as a 3 star portal recruit with a very respectable composite value score of 69 points.
Elijah Crawford is a 36, Matus is a 51, Hugley is a 53, Chabi is a 55, Wilborn is a 63, Dinkins is a 78, & the highest rating for any player is 88. Remaining years of eligibility factors into the score.
Here's hoping Jimmie is a steal that needed a year's experience in a D-1 program to get his bearings!

Re: Jimmie Williams, a 6’5 guard
My other prediction is that Brandon Hall will be our backup PG to start the year. Started his career at ETSU, and held a number of offers coming from juco last year including George Mason. Obviously, he sat but I would imagine him returning at this point in time is an indicator of a large role for this upcoming season. He will be a 22 YO freshman. Hopefully a good battle between Lawson and him for that role.
