Re: 4 Star point guard Elijah Crawford

This is the the type of player that pushes the Dukes to the top 5 of the conference.  They need to make this happen.  Empty the coffers.  The fact that he’s considering Duquesne with those other schools on the table shows that Duquesne is a player.  Only a few years ago KD remarked that he didn’t even chase kid that Dayton was chasing because he knew he wouldn’t get him.  Would LOVE to see this happen!

Totally agree Styles
Get him as our PG with him and Lawson
I believe we only need another SF who can shoot 3
And another big
Contrary to popular opinion with Hall Dimichele Cam Crawford and sometimes Edward's we have enough 2 guards
Go Dukes make it happen!

Re: 4 Star point guard Elijah Crawford

I’m not familiar with him at all and haven’t seen any video, but a 6’2 point guard with multiple power conference teams interested? I’m definitely on board with that. Let’s make it happen Druquesne!

There’s some highlights if anyone’s interested. Obviously he doesn’t have much from BYU having only played 5 minutes a game. So those are from prep school, but at least it gives an indication of his game. Very little defense or passing shown in the highlight reel, but he can definitely score at all three levels like the PSN article said. I hated to see Tre hit the portal (and this might sound like sour grapes given the timing) but if we can bring Crawford to the bluff it seems like a definite trade up.

I also checked out his BYU profile here: https://byucougars.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/player/elijah-crawford
The picture gives an idea of his athleticism (just ignore the fact that it’s obviously at Midnight Madness or some similar type of event). Another interesting note from that page is that he has some family history in Pittsburgh basketball (even if it came in Oakland). His cousin is Vonteego Cummings.

Also to clarify something from the PSN article, while he did do two years of prep school in New Hampshire, he’s actually from Augusta, Georgia. I was shocked a player from New Hampshire was recruited by almost half of the SEC, but it makes more sense now. The more I find out about him the more I want him in a Dukes jersey. Here’s to hoping we have to figure out nicknames or something for an all-Crawford backcourt.

Re: 4 Star point guard Elijah Crawford

His father’s name is Broderick Crawford!  That might ring a bell for old movie buffs, or “Highway Patrol” fans from a long time ago!

Re: 4 Star point guard Elijah Crawford

Would be great to resurrect the Pittsburgh Crawfords.

levon1975, we could have our PA guy wear a suit and fedora and bark into a hand held police radio mic (shoot, just offer Elijah’s dad the PA job and pay him big money too).

Not anymore.  There’s a plaque commemorating the location and history but the establishment no longer exists

Re: 4 Star point guard Elijah Crawford

That’s true Styles; but the way Jazz is making a strong comeback in Pittsburgh, I’m hoping we see the third version of the Crawford Grill sometime soon.

Re: 4 Star point guard Elijah Crawford

Committed to UIC (as posted in another thread).

For me, this one didn’t pass the sniff test. Committed to Stanford, decommitted, and then went to BYU where he couldn’t get on the court for any meaningful minutes (he played a total of 17 minutes in the 20 Big 12 conference games). Entered the portal.

Besides the Duquesne visit (and the UIC commitment), I could not find any other offers/visits/interest in him after he entered the transfer portal. He certainly had a ton of high major interest coming out of Brewster Academy, but it appears that the interest vanished for some reason.

Re: 4 Star point guard Elijah Crawford

I agree Phoenix, where there’s smoke there’s usually fire. I don’t know what the problem could be, but it seems like the people that get paid to know know there is one. He filled such a position of need that I could have dealt with a little fire. I’m sure Dru has a backup plan, but it is becoming more and more vital to hit on it.

DJ was a point guard, but to this point, he can't recruit one?  They are out there, find one?

Re: 4 Star point guard Elijah Crawford

He does have two PGs coming in for next season.  I know both are freshmen and that may be a concern, but my understanding is that both s are point guards.

Lawson, Aikens, and Hall is a good group. I don't see any issue with being able to get good play out of at least one of them off the bench. I don't question that at all. I would just argue that none of those 3 are ready to start and lead an offense YET. I think that easily could happen the year after, but the main addition to this roster needs to be a starting PG.

Also, what are the eligibility concerns around Lawson? If someone could educate me, that'd be greatly appreciated.

Romad Dean has been linked to Duquesne. Fordham forward from the Bahamas. Would be a great addition in my opinion and exactly the type of player they're missing in this rotation currently. Gives me some Drame vibes. Shoots well, 6'7" frame. Perfect backup PF.

The other name being linked currently is Stef Van Bussel. Dutch C from Charleston. Started his career at St Louis but has played very sparingly thus far in his collegiate career. Could be a good backup C option which is also the last rotational hole to be filled.
